With one year of eligibility. Granted, I imagine if old rules stay he could medical shirt this year, red shirt next year and then go but I mean...I wouldn't be surprised if delucca beats Provo next year. I wouldn't be surprised if Provo loses in the blood round next year. Transfers sound great, they're sexy. They also account for one individual title for iowa since the portal opened in 2018. If you're not hunting for individual titles, you're better off sticking with the elite recruit you brought in.

*As an elite top tier program. Clearly, many schools need the portal just to find AAs.
High standard that a transfer has to win a natty for it to be a good move. IMO Provo is closer to title contender than going down in the blood rounds based on watching his matches at the tourney. He was 3-0 vs V-Rob this year.

FWIW, I think Leo is much, MUCH closer to a title contender than ANY transfer.

Could be, I was / am very high on DeLuca. Having been injured the last two years it's tough to get a read on where he is right now. I would say, Provo was 3rd this year and went 7-1 in the tourney. If anyone offered that up as Leo's outcome this upcoming year I think most would jump at that.

BTW I'm not even necessarily advocating for this move, just saying I'd understand it assuming it's even true which IDK if it is or not.

Iowa should have the highest of standards. Should recruit well enough a one year rental that maxes out around 3-4 range versus an elite recruit with 4 years left isn't even a debate.i think they did at 125. I think delucca is the answer at 125. You have crookham at 133. Bringing in a one year 125 is silly.

They have been upgrades from the “elite,” athletes we recruited out of hs. We’ve been hitting the portal hard to basically fight for the title of “best of the rest.” Now it’s just to remain on the podium, imo.

I don't see Provo as a gaurentee upgrade.

He is 57-25 in his career with one AA. He will be a RS senior and a transfer getting a bag. We've all seen this story before. It rarely plays out like Buchanan. It's more likely it plays out like a Parco or Franek. Stick with the young stud y'all recruited. But that's my opinion, and as they say: they're like ********, we've all got one.

Upgrade for whom? It probably would be if Leo is projected to still be injured. That’s the only way it makes sense if Provo is a 25…

Edit: Gobbles says he’s healthy, so he should be the guy.

This. I just don’t see it. He’s quick and athletic and has some power but I think AA could be difficult with his size. Guess we’ll wait and see…
My guess is he’s looking at how high Ben will be rated next year and my gut tells me he’d beat up on Ben in the practice room. He’s just so much more athletic fast and stronger than big Ben. I see him having a better chance of placing high or winning it more than a 197. Just my opinion. I just don’t see big Ben beating Mo.

You guys are missing the obvious...TnT are recruiting Provo just to keep other teams from getting him.

He's merely an insurance policy if something bad happens to Leo.
Duh.

Yea I have to agree, I don't think Kennedy is a PSU style guy at all and I think Iowa was a far better fit for him. Not sure if Iowa would have done any better with Facundo either.
Agree, PK was a typical hard working tough as nails grinder, which won him many matches against high school kids who couldn’t handle the pressure, but he was much more limited athletically than most top 5 pfp recruits. TNT were the perfect coaches for his style and way he had to win. Haines had a much higher ceiling , and was more athletic in addition to being very naturally strong. Haines could have easily been a 2 time champ under TnT and many other competent college coaches.

Facundo was higher than Kennedy and Haines, he failed to AA at both PSU and OSU. SVN was a higher recruit than Henson and Valencia. Your big board ranking doesn't win you a title.
Wasn’t Manville a very highly ranked recruit who never even broke the lineup at PSU . If PSU could have turned PK into a multiple time champion, why couldn’t they even turn Manville into a starter.

You're a corporate guy now? 9 -5? Do you bring your lunch in or go out?

You've got it right on Warner. We need(ed) an upper weight coach who is proven. That was the case with Jacob thru last August. He was great for SB, Ben, Angelo while with the HWC when he was not competing but helping them and many others. We will see the results with the upper weights.

Yes Jacob worked for us since last August. He very much impressed me while a student. I asked him to come out to our Analyst/Intern week long summer training sessions for a couple years and he hit it out of the park. As he wrapped up his time at HWC he decided to join us. His passion is wrestling. When this spot opened, and he was asked, he decided to follow his passion. Can anyone be surprised.

He will be a great coach. He would be great at anything he does.
Glad he still has a passion for the sport. His senior year, he seemed beat up and burned out even though he came through at nationals again. I was even surprised he joined HWC and did freestyle.

Look at the body types of all the NCAA Champions. Does muscular AND length standout? Elite defense wins titles, Messenbrink is the exception, yet he doesn’t give up much on his feet. Coaching always makes a difference. It’s hard to give away something you have never possessed. Carl and DT have length, TNT don’t.
This is meant to be a factual post, not one of opinion.
