Outside of the DAW example that has been the standard.

So expecting a higher profile player to come back is probably not realistic, hence Jerry’s take that they are “gone.”

but who knows maybe he finds out his agent was wrong and those higher offers don’t exist.

So let’s have some fun, hypothetically he comes back asking for the original offer he turned down. Is that offer at that same amount still on the table?

True, at least at SHU.
If SHU was comfortable with the amount they offered for Clark (wonder if the new GM was involved...), then I would say yes, the offer still stands.

You almost have to offer the same amount. Or maybe a little less if it can be credibly explained. If not, you run the risk of Budd accepting and not giving max effort, being difficult to coach, sitting out at the first sign of injury, etc.

It’s an awkward spot.

Move on. I'm tired of players using our offer to try & get a better deal somewhere else.
I want to say "move on" as well, but in FA sometimes a player does return and everything is OK. It is really situation specific IMO, and we have no way of knowing what transpired here and whether the ship has sailed because of bad feelings generated by the negotiations. From stuff posted by insiders, it seems Sha thinks he was used by Clark and/or that Clark really had no intention of every returning, which complicates things and could make for an awkward dynamic.

It is possible SHU told Bud we can offer you X, he comes back looking for more, tell him cannot give you more, but we would love to have you back, Give him option to look what is available from other schools, but our offer still stands. Obviously, this is in most basic terms, as lot of moving parts assembling a team,

Possible, but that's now how it was described. At all.

Why we were stupid to low ball him early. Idc if he agreed, you took a risk knowing the market info would get back to him.

I would keep the doom open. You honor the last offer, make amends, move on.

Just chuckling that $1 million is a low ball for a college kid….
