We can’t even buy players in an age of buying players. If that isn’t the biggest red flag in the world than nothing is. I want Pope to succeed so bad, but how many times can we see this happen? If UConn or whoever else had the highest offer by far they wouldn’t even visit, just sign.

Man, I’m being honest, I’ve been saying all along that Mark should have never been considered based on results. I’ll stand by that. I want him to succeed so badly. But if the guy can’t get one or two of his top ten targets with the money available, it’s going to get so bad. He won’t make it here. I’m praying he lands some of these dudes. He needs it more than air at this point. It’ll just be so deflating and look so bad if we go hard and end up second on this group he’s going after.
The way I look at it is, if he can't do it this year, its a high chance he can't do it ever.
I don’t know if anyone is paying attention, but there are teams loading up right now. In a few days the talent pool will be greatly reduced. Waiting on guys to enter that have not (only 6 days left) and expect to build a contending team is a fools errand. Even if we get Wright today, a serious mountain to climb.

BYU return for Wright is a real possibility.
If that’s the case I’ve pretty much given up on Pope. And the powers that be may need to make a move before Summer. We have nobody signed while other programs are signing guys over the phone.

Wright has said the whole time that he will give BYU the opportunity to match any outside offer. That's what the smoke has been, at least
He probably is. But the fact remains if we lose Wright, Stokes just left town without committing. So did Diallo. You have to lock these guys up when they’re here. We may have an OVC level roster if things don’t change in a hurry. If that’s the case there is zero reason to continue with Pope.

Sure, and I don't know how much the $$ difference is - I'm sure Hurley lowballs because he wants to see the kid come for the right reasons. The beauty of how this works for programs that can be selective - they can challenge the kid to see if he really wants it. If he doesn't, it answers all their questions.
If it's 500K difference let's say, still a ton of dough to forego - tell me there is something broken here:
1) no one wants to play for Pope
2) something broke in NIL structure
3) it's a lie
I am, I heard overnight BYU upped the offer to him but he still would be announcing today for us. I haven't heard any different.
Based on prior results, I absolutely believe you. It’s similar to the Tubby days when his defenders said Tubby just was a good guy and wanted kids to visit other schools. We never got those guys. They didn’t want to play for Tubby. Pope looks to be worse.
Travis Branham saying his confidence in Wright to UK dwindling. Currently a toss up. Says 48 hours ago he was confident but over the past 24 hours he feels less confident. Link below to him talking about it.
Blueblood doesn’t mean much. It never has without a coach that players want to play for. It looks like no one really wants to play for CMP.

Pope is gonna Whiff again isn’t he… this is exactly how it plays out. We lead, they come. Everyone says they are ours. They hammer out details. They don’t commit. Smoke comes it’s wavering. They don’t sign. If he messes this up, we may as well fire him. It won’t get better.
Best I can tell from the very limited information I get is it started out great and Rob was happy with our offer and vision. His agent floated our offer back at BYU and gave them a chance to match/go over the top and they raised their offer but didn't exceed ours. We still have a higher offer, Rob is still at UK visiting, but it's no longer a lock. Might be a few days before he decides. I don't KNOW that, I'm not in the room obviously. That's just piecing together insider info and what people around the program are hearing. But, honestly seems feels we got used to generate a bigger payday, again. I really hope I'm wrong though.

So, what you are really trying to say is, teams with $$ antsy players are telling them to go test the market and see what you can get, and then come back to them. And everyone goes to UK because we are always the highest bidder - and essentially stool pigeons. Major issue honestly and this is the problem when you are the one throwing out all the big bags - you're setting the market artificially and being used.
Until proven otherwise I'd expect a whiff with big names. The only real big name they've gotten is JQ, who just sat on his butt for the money.
At some point you just have to accept CMP for who he is. And to put it frankly, he isn’t capable of running a program as large and prestigious as UK.
If CMP whiffs on Wright and Stokes, it’s pretty much the beginning of the end for his tenure at UK. And to make it worse, the guy down the road is getting multiple top 10 portal players and he was hired the same year as CMP. That’s going to put a lot of pressure CMP.
