Or it's a ploy to cause us to miss on others while waiting on him when he's already made up his mind for KU....several have said they've heard he's going to punt his decision out another week or two.

I feel like a few players have done that to us in recent times. But, yeah, Pope needs a ******* team, not a flash in the pan. He needs to be recruiting as if he never met Stokes.
Didn't watch the Bird video but I had read somewhere that the biggest reason was that Knight roomed him with Steve Green I think. Green's dad was a doctor, Steve had a convertible and everything he could want. Larry was poor, a couple of pairs of jeans and shorts and t-shirts and that was it. Bird said he never felt so poor and out of place in his life and while Knight didn't realize until much later the mistake he made, Knight never asked him why, just assumed he was a quitter.
I worry about the kid Stokes more than the player Stokes. I am not in anyway alluding to that he's a bad kid. That incident that he had at the prep school could have happened to anyone. I DO worry that if he is feeling Nike pressure to sign with us but not really feeling playing for Mark Pope that he could take his bag and not play. Just ride it out on the bench most of the year. My son works for an EYBL Program , and at a tournament last year ( I think Peach Jam) he was talking to an NBA scout that was watching Tyran. They love his physicality and body but questions his angles that he takes to the basket, and his consistent shot making ability. Again, they are used to looking at the best players in the world, so they can nit pick. Tyran is most likely going to be a cant miss NBA long term player. I guess at the end of the day, I just have so little confidence in Pope that it comes across in my message. I wish I didn't feel this way, because I want to believe last year was just an aberration to what he will become as a coach at UK.
This was basically Goodman's take - whether you like him or not, he's plugged in. Stokes does have weird body language and can be over animated. Can nice guy Pope reign in a kid like that when things are going perfectly? Or will he shut down?

Yes, hew was out of funds, the size of campus might affect his funds, but had he had more, he would of stayed.
If that is true that says a lot about who Stokes is and says more about our staff for not discerning that.
