At what point did this team become broken?

I think it was after the first game vs UGA. We came in with a ton of expectation and probably too much bravado. They came out, smacked us in the mouth and kept the punches coming, scoring in each of the first five innings. We managed to rally and actually out hit them 14-10 but still came up short. We have not been the same ever since. I think that opening game loss at home got to us and it snowballed from there and we have not figured out how to snap out of it. We haven't had double digit hits ever since.

McPherson pitching could have helped stem that tide. Foster did a great job in his first Friday night start at olemiss, but it fell apart for him that night.

Yep, having McPherson would have helped significantly. I never put a lot of stock in that comeback since we didn't pull it off. When teams get up by 8 runs they pitch much differently. You get a lot more straight stuff with their goal being not to gift you baserunners with walks. I think that is the biggest reason we hit much better during the latter part of that game. But if we could have prevented Georgia from jumping out so far ahead of us to start with it would have been a much different game.

I think Bruce hit it on the head. A lot of new players, team hasn’t gelled and found an identity. Still talented.

There were some warning signs in the Sunday game in Oxford. We scored six of seven runs via homer and walked a ton of people, OM stranded a ton on base. Even though we won that game comfortably I thought it was a weird day. Chalked it up to a fluke at the time, but our plate approach has pretty much been homer or nothing since that day.

There are highs and lows in baseball during a season. They are in a low. I think it started in the Gramling game when they got struck out 11 times by Gramling's pitching. It got into their heads. They will come back. Just keep hitting. I am going to say this. Tenn outfield was the best outfield they have faced all season. Those guys could cover some ground. A lot of those hit this past weekend would have been in gaps leading to runs against the other SEC teams we have played.

It was a very strange game. We were a bit lucky to get the win.

Baseball teams/seasons are fragile. MSU quit hitting a week after the McPherson injury. There is a fine line between elite & not very good in college baseball & we as fans have seen it over the last 2-3 weeks.

Losing a high level Friday night starter for even 4-6 weekends is HUGE for any team even elite. We need a combination slumpbuster/exorcism during the mid-week.

South Carolina is bad & could be just the opponent MSU needs this weekend, but lose a couple & we might miss the tourney.

I actually wish Paul Manieri was still at SCAR this weekend. He and BOC were together at Notre Dame. And PM had USCe playing like HOT garbage. Things are different now.

Following losing to #1 UCLA when we had them dead to rights. I think that was a devastating mental memory that we haven't exorcised yet.

I remember how the OT loss to UT broke the football team. But I don't think this baseball team is as fragile personnel wise.
