Does Pope really have a choice? He has Mason Williams from high school?
What other high schoolers does he have? I am going to say maybe one if we are lucky.

I voted yes, but only because he played it wrong. When you are offering someone a one year, $6-7M deal, you give them a date that your offer expires, and it should have been understood that that day is this week. He is all in now though, no turning back

National signing day tomorrow. Maybe we’ll know then. At this point, what could possibly be unsaid to keep Stokes from announcing? Self is back, and doubt they’re haggling over money now. And any Nike/Addidas conflict should be resolved by now. Could be waiting on roster build, but Kansas has the same problem of mass defections. Maybe he’s giving Kansas a chance to build a team. In that case, we’ll probably lose in that scenario if he‘s so hellbent on going there.

I say you cut bait if it is actually two weeks but not before making a final offer to commit this week. The portal will be slim pickings by then and yet we will have a large amount of unspent cash meant for top talent. It pains me to say it, but we cannot chance this.

Should've figured got him here and couldn't close the deal.... Pope really needs to start closing the deal on players or it's over for him...

Really depends on if there's any other viable replacement for his position in the portal.

If Stokes is not understanding how his delay affects the construction of next year's roster, then that says even more about his concern for the team and its prospects of being successful. There is no "I" in "Team" ... as is always said.

I voted no because Pope can whiff on the rest of the good portal players and they go elsewhere. If Pope had the recruiting finesse like Cal, then we could wait. The problem is we don't have a full team yet and we had no retention.

Well said

Disagree. Freshman don’t win titles.
Look at what UK and Duke have to show for all their superstar freshmen over the last 15 years. Then look at what Michigan just did and what UConn has been doing with upper class men. Stokes clearly has no clue what he wants, and if you wait and miss on him AND the top portal players because of it, it’s a season down the drain. And most likely Pope’s last.

It was reported that Tyran hates adidas shoes and actually sold his game worn pair. Right after the Mcdonalds game. Little things in recruiting often lead to commitments. Bol Bol went to Oregon because of uniforms and shoes.

Cal is who he is, but he could get the recruits. Who is the happy medium? The right AD will find it. Or not and we continue this experiment

Kristin McPeek (sp) posted above, who stated she has known the family since he was 14 years old, interviewed him, and that was his quote. He didn't say it would def. be two weeks, but did mention it could take that long.
She can be my source any day.

I'd like to take a peek at Ms. McPeek, if you catch my drift.

She really stokes the red-hot burning in my loins.

He has no choice but to wait. But the waiting should only affect players at Stokes position. He still still be going hard after Wright and Freeman.

Lol would be something if Kansas let him wear Nike shoes. 😂

If Pope had the ability to actually land a bunch of studs in the portal then you could go that route. But he’s going to be lucky if he gets two high end portal guys. Stokes is a must have at this point.

Anyone saying we can be fine without Stokes are the same people last portal season saying we’d be fine after losing Dent, Wilkerson and Wilson.

It is interesting how Stokes gets a bit of a bad rap for drawing out his decision. I agree he, his family, and his agent should have all the information they need to commit somewhere now. The issue is of course is he is the #1 overall recruit.

However, take a guy like Mikka Muurinen, who is the #8 PF and #32 recruit (per 247). His recruitment has been relatively quiet, is a Nike kid, and has interest in Arky, Mich., Puke, iu, and us. I do not see folks bashing this kid for not committing. I know he is more of a piece to add vs. one to build around in year 1, but still.

While I am as impatient as the next guy, let's not pretend Stokes is doing things maliciously or that he is the only guy still hanging out there while rosters are being constructed.

Pope has to keep recruiting under the assumption Stokes is not coming. If he signs with us, great...that would be a good problem to have. Let's just cut the kid some slack.
