With our luck it will be some stupid Big Ten school that will back the Brinks truck up to the doors of the top five recruits and sign them for $50 million. Of course, our administration is too buttoned down to do that sort of thing.

What’s really frustrating is knowing that this is going to happen, and also knowing that we won’t take advantage of the first opportunity.

Eventually teams will tank a season to maximize their NIL for a superior portal/freshmen class.

Dude, what do you think Michigan just did, and what IU did in football.

I don't agree that "Michigan did it." They didn't spend anymore than us, Duke, Arizona, UF, etc. Supposedly we had more than anyone this past season and we didn't get out of the first round.

The OPs point is someone is going to end up like the Yankees and have a ridiculous amount compared to others. Imagine if you could throw all the money at Stokes, Wright, Milan, Juke Harris and Bidunga for your starting 5 with tons of money left over for a bench. Im curious if there will eventually be a cap to keep it all relatively "fair" or if a super school will end up.

Michigan has Dave Portnoy and Larry Ellison helping with their NIL. Dusty May will never leave there as long as NIL is set up with no cap on player contracts.

Schools have been buying players for longer than I have been alive. Anyone thinking these top ranked freshmen are showing up on campus - before NIL - for free is just being naive.

Word is… The boosters at Tenn are going all out this year to get Barnes a final4. Not waiting on visits and flying there to inn home meetings. To me that’s what needs to be done, show these big recruits you mean business. Kids aren’t running to UK anymore, UK’s gonna run to them.

“At some point” has already happened.

Every title won in the NIL era has been bought to a large degree.
Michigan was really the first. Golden built his team through recruiting and long term portal. Those Uconn teams were primarily built.

I do think you're right that on the go forward, it's going to be about $$. It'll be the same 10 teams or so vying every year, like FB (Indiana being the crazy exception). College sports are no longer, this is a pro league. Lame.

Schools have been buying titles for decades. Why do people act like players getting paid is new? The only “new” part about it is that it isn’t against the rules anymore.
