They should start breaking it up into catagories and nominate one from each group and start puttting in country artists which somehow dont fit their diversity aim

Rock
Pop
R&B
Rap
Country
Wildcard
Fan Vote
Change the name to The Music Hall of Fame, like many artists want, and have the categories you posted part of it
As for adding Country singers , I grew up thinking Carl Perkins , Johnny Cash , Brenda Lee and some other rockabilly singers were rock and roll , not Country artists.
Later as rockabilly songs lost popularity I looked at them as country and not rock and roll
But in the 1950s you could say "a little bit country-a little rock&roll" made the rockabilly movement popular
and some of the artists deserving a place in both the Country and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

“Rockabilly” is rock & roll in its purest form. A fusion of mostly rhythm & blues and country western. Elvis Presley, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent among others. There is a lot of music today that gets broadly labeled under “country” which is much more blues, rock, funk, etc. The reason is that there are some people who write or talk about music today that are uninformed and not musically literate:

Couple links. If you can watch this and think Pink, New Edition or anyone else on the ballot (except Maiden, they absolutely should be in) is more rock & roll, then I don't know what to say. Crowes need to be in.

I've actually only enjoyed The Black Crowes from 2007-2011, when one of my favorite guitarists...Luther Dickinson...was in the band.

I had checked out of rock music from the late ‘70’s to the late ‘80’s. There was some good stuff in the ‘80’s but for me - no where near the quality of the rock music of the ‘60s and early 70’s. When the ‘90’s hit, it seemed to be a rebirth (at least for a while) and the Black Crowes were my favorite band from that era. I think this is my favorite tune from them:

Here are your inductees. The only ones I really cared about, Joy Division/New Order, got in, so I'm happy about that.

I'm surprised Joy Division/New Order were not already in

I heard a music biz exec say a reason some musicians/bands make it in over others is their current profitability. Robert Smith of The Cure said that without Joy Division there might never have been The Cure. The Cure are still active and making money and Joy Division isn't so The Cure got in HOF and JD had to wait until now

Joy Division probably has a more fanatic following, but New Order is/was a far bigger act, financially, especially in the UK, where they had 6 #1 albums (7 if you count Substance, their greatest hits album thru 1987), while they only had a few top 40 albums in the US. But I'm pretty sure their influence on countless bands is the biggest reason they got in. Will be interesting to see if co-founder Peter Hook rejoins the band for the induction (he left the band in 2007).

We disagree - I'm good with the "big tent" approach of the R&RHOF.
I've been a fan of rock and roll for over 60 years. I know what rock and roll is. The three I mentioned are most definitely NOT rock and roll. And thus they do not belong in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
It's not a friggin tent. It's a hall of fame.....supposedly for rock and roll. Put them in the Popular Music Hall Of Fame and you' ll get no argument from me.

I'm definitely one of Joy Division's most fanatic fans. New Order not so much.

Ian Curtis was Joy Division pretty much. New Order formed just weeks after his suicide at 24 yrs old. I like New Order better but still not a lot. Joy Division laid the groundwork for a lot of post-punk alternative so I appreciate the cultural shift but "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is sort of like Van Gogh's Sunset With Crows in that both are permeated with death. Curtis was already gone when song came out

Length of fandom is irrelevant. You have an opinion, which you're entitled to, as do I. We simply disagree - there is no "definitely" associated with a subjective opinion.

I love both with a slight preference for New Order, probably because they have a few more of my favorite songs: Age of Consent, Love Vigilantes and, possibly my all-time favorite song, Temptation.

I wanted The Black Crowes and INXS to get in. Thought both terrific rock bands with at least several very good albums. I’m for an expanded view of rock music, it is not an easy thing to define. I think many have a very constricted view of what rock music is. However, with a number of the musical acts added into the HOF over the last 15 years or so, I’m now in favor of calling it “The Popular Music Hall of Fame”.
