Incredibly exciting,,,,PSU has never attracted a 4 star linebacker under BGJ. He is a composite 3 star and also 3 on 247.

His two best (rankings wise) LB recruits were absolute busts. One is a ‘never was’ (Smith) the other transferred (undersized five star from Michigan). Not Franklin’s fault but the five star guys not living up to ranking happened a lot…(Simmons, Slade, Allar, Ford, Johnson, Shorter, Reynolds).
Hovering around 50 or so in national rankings. They’re going hard after QB Bourque as are we - will be interesting to see how it ends up.
Ignore Marsha.. she hopes the new coach loses at everything and her hero BGJ comes back.. as well as several other butt hurt clowns on this site
Yeah, I know Marshall’s MO. Think he likes to agitate just to agitate and isn’t necessarily huge BGJ fan - just that he hates PSU fans who weren’t happy with how things were going.
If posters like Franklin, how is that a problem for you? They may appreciate that he came here while we were still under sanctions, had a winning season his first year with 44 available scholarship players, won the Big Ten in his third year, had an excellent won loss record (only JoePa won more games),didn’t cheat, and his players had to go to class. You don’t evidently admire achievements like that but many people do.
It will be fascinating to see how VT plays it with Bourque. I read elsewhere that those lesser programs could put out more money for an upper level QB if they’re putting all their eggs in one basket and not paying the rest of their recruits as much as we are. But for Bourque, it seems to be PSU verse ND and Georgia. We are also very high on Mencl out of Arizona and we may have him higher on our board. It’s literally us versus Oregon for him, which means the PSU NIL collective versus Phil Knight. Hopefully we get one of the two.
Sounds like PSU may have made up some ground on Clemson in the recruitment of OL Jones. Good news!
This doesn’t make me overly optimistic for either to be honest

Agreed, but to be honest, the last two Natty winners rented a quarterback for their championship run. They were both able to identify the right fit QB for their systems. Neither was the best available. Maybe that’s the model moving forward, who knows. But I still want one of these two high school recruits.
Did messages get deleted on this thread? I think the ones commenting on how ridiculous some people are to go out of their way to bash Campbell while still supporting BGJ. Weird.
FWIW, sounds like ND is now the competition for Bourque. They hopped in late. If they offer, his recruitment could completely shift.
If PSU decided to offer some pee wee player, that annoying person who leads ND would offer him just out of spite. I look forward to when he finally accepts a NFL job.
Franklin really pissed him off leading up to the last bowl game and he holds it against us.
You missed the point in a big way. It is fine to admire Franklin if that is your choice. The point is the ridiculousness of being fiercely loyal to Franklin and not honestly and objectively assessing nor admitting his failures while at the same time having this bizarre negative attitude toward Campbell that comes off as hoping Campbell fails. Analogous to a father being butt hurt that his son got canned and now he is super bitter and is wishing/hoping his son's replacement falls on his face.
I think 5 star failures at PSU leave a mark, because we don't get many. I wonder how many 5 stars under achieve at OSU or Alabama but it's not as noticeable because there are several others balling.

Bingo! Close. I like James a great deal. I think he did very good things here. He imploded with 2 unforgiveable losses last year and suffered the consequences. I'm really okay with that. Spoiler alert, he wasn't going to be at PSU even if the circumstances were the opposite. I have no axe to grind with Matt Campbell. He has earned his reputation as a "coaches coach."
It won't be very long until his shine wears off here. There is a significant portion of this fan base that is entitled and delusional.
After all Kraft promised the next guy would bring excellence at the highest level AND a national championship.
There can be no coach more popular than the one who has never coached a game here. My real beef is with Kraft. He should have been fired for letting the 2026 class walk and his magical mystery tour of a coaching search. In addition, I personally think the scope of the stadium renovation, at this crucial time (trying to evaluate NIL/RS) was ill advised.
IMO you still need to play the traditional recruiting game. For many reasons. The current "wild west" nature of "college" football may soon get guidelines that restrict endless # of transfers. So I think it's important to engage on both fronts.

The two (or three) losses weren't the reason for Big Game's firing. Their timing just happened to be convenient.

I wish that we all just could move on from the last administration; my guess is that even if the last head coach had not been fired, he would've left on his own volition to take a new job after this season had ended, as the situation had become untenable after the loss to Oregon and then the total implosion in the next two games. He was the head coach here for going on twelve years, which is an eternity these days and. much like the Steelers after this past season, it was time for both the school and the old head coach make a change, while acknowledging that it mostly had been a pretty good tenure. Just remember that Dabo Swinney has been the head coach at Clemson since 2008 and has won two NCs and played for a couple others, and many of their fans believe that his time has run its course there.
I don't know whether the global results will be any better under Campbell than under the former head coach, but they may be obtained in a more substantive way, and I can live with that.
