This was another pod that did not instill much confidence with efforts in the portal for men’s hoops. Matter of fact, last two pods have been pretty depressing regarding the portal. It’s still early, but the results and reporting thus far is less than inspiring.

Ugh - welp, down goes the theory that we have even a prayer of landing 2 centers with even a punchers chance of being better than Ogbole.

Hey RU4Life - how about them apples? Sounds like we’re not even in the market for a Shaq Doorson level back up to pair with Ware so never mind that comparison. We’re talking to Baye Fall clones from DePaul. Cool beans. Surely he projects to be better than Ogbole too, right? Not.

This sounds like a complete disaster. What the heck are they doing. If we can’t afford a playable center why aren’t we talking to power forwards. We have Ware and a makeshift front-court player in Buchanan. We shouldn’t talk to another guard until we sign at least 2 frontcourt players. Are we planning to roll with 4 guards Buchanan???

I hope Pike is just keeping things on the DL because this podcast makes the situation sound horrible.

RU66, Ancienthopper did you guys listen to the podcast?

people are not bad fans cause they call a program out for being clueless

they spelled out for you a legit big is not going to happen unless we spend above our means which we’ve all been saying

they also sang praises for women’s hoops and football

So let’s put aside that it’s not even like our backcourt is spectacular… At least we project to have a collection of backcourt guys who have seen real playing time in conference.

Darren Buchanan logged 24 minutes and at least half of them were played at wing (the 3). Ware only played in garbage time. We have to fill 80 minutes of court time at the 4 and 5 and we renegotiating with a kid who barely saw the court at DePaul?

We may certainly not have the $$$ for a legit big, especially if the going rate is $3-$4M+ range. That being said, is the assumption that Podcasters are all insiders and know everything going on or that they (like most of us) are offering opinions based on information at hand? Almost all Podcasts I listen to on sports teams, while at times insightful and a good listen, are really just content filling opinions.

Pike should have been fired. The NIL money means nothing without a new coach.

If we roll with Maker, Ware, and some random tall Euro nobody has ever heard of who logged utility minutes on a pro Euro team (that seems to be our MO when we strike out - to go abroad) at center, and don’t land a top tier forward, then yeah, I’m inclined to agree with you. What they heck are they doing?

Why are we shopping the damn PG market if we’re trying to convince Lino to stay? So what - we’re looking to pay TF, Lino, J Mike and another established PG at the expense of buying anyone for the frontcourt. Forget the damn PG for now. We can’t afford anyone who is going to be materially better than our returners anyway. That’s the sad reality of it. Cut your losses and pool the damn money for the frontcourt. That should’ve been the plan along and we may already be too late. This sounds like a complete disaster.

They aren’t always right about everything and Pike does sometimes throw curveballs but the problem is most of the better name guys already have lists and we’re not on any of them.

I’m not saying they are right but considering one is directly a Rutgers reporter and the other works for a recruiting network they have more access to information than we do of course they can still be wrong

just like most on this board contrary to what some grumps think we all want Rutgers to win but we’re being disingenuous if we just clap for every decision made

it’s a fact not a single one of the top level big men have Rutgers on their short list and every fan who knows anything at all knows the frontcourt is THE priority

Rutgers has kind of shown their hand they are going cheap on backcourt and bringing mostly everyone back so that should mean significant funds available for multiple big men

and here we are talking about a guy who averaged 1.5 ppg for freaking DEPAUL as our center target … cmon

This. Top tier center? Forget that. We’re not even on the radar for anyone who would project to come close to matching Ogbole’s productivity…

At the moment, we appear to be on track to drastically downgrade the worst power conference frontcourt in the NCAAs. Now - Grant really wasn’t good and since he didn’t use his size to rebound or defend well, I honestly don’t think he added much above playing a 4th guard at forward but both of these paths are losing propositions. Especially if paired with a worse center room than last year. Things sure don’t sound good right now. So upsetting.

Play instead of the guys we’re targeting

you see the centers we’re linked with? They together averaged 3 points a game

Don’t forget to add Ware’s 2 points. Oh wait… that’s 2 points scored on the whole season. Not his average.

But somehow we still have a bandwagon full of fans ready to welcome “anyone but Ogbole”. Question on him for the mods - what is the technical rule. Does he have to enter the portal in the next 9 days to be eligible to play for anyone besides RU if he gets the extra year?

The two fold problen Rutgers mens basketlall faces are NIL funding and the sad reality that top tier recruits/transfers find other schools more attractive when it comes to winning in a power confereence. Bottom tier front court transfers will be playimg at Rutgers next season. In contrast the womens program is generating some excitement with the first three transfer recruits Perception matters in college recruiting.

Trying to have patience with portal efforts by Pike and GM Rob Sullivan, but Duarte as the first signee, that was like Pike popping into a room and ripping a huge fart that just hangs in the air and then heading out of the room. Thank you. It left a bad taste along with other bad tastes over past several years. Hoping for the best from these two, but expecting the worst.

Wanting Rutgers to do well but also wondering and waiting for actual input and ideas from the portion of the board who just criticizes people for having skepticism and concern about the last few years and current cycle

none of them seem to have actual ideas of what we can do and what expectations should be they just tell you you’re stupid and suck as a fan for not having ultimate optimism

April 13th and we have one single frontcourt player on our roster currently. The only name we know we're "in the mix" for is DePauls 3rd string C that has already been replaced in the portal there. We have had the worst frontcourt in power conference basketball for multiple years now and we currently show no signs of changing that. I pray Pike and Co. are just moving in silence, but that is what we hoped for the past few years now and have been served a plate of sh*t each time
