Pretty telling that the writing is on the wall- the delay in any Stadium upgrades. Sell out streak breaks this year. No one at Spring Game etc. Renewels not going well.

You weren’t complaining about the leg room in the glory days . I seriously doubt you have had season tickets since 64 .
First game I went to was Mizzou in 1970. Snuck in with my cousin. Right behind the band- Dads seats were South End 16 A row 59- he got them after Devaney came and they built up the South End- I think 1964. . Missed a handful of games since then- went to ALL the Title games, kick off classic in NYC- Meadowlands. Lots of away games- Washington, Notre Dame, Michigan, A&M, Sun Bowl, Orange, Fiesta, Sugar- all the old Big 8 foes etc. Had designated seat until dad died in 2000- Ive had all 4 tickets ever since- Epic Big Red room downstairs with countless signed balls, pics, arrays, memorabilia etc. So youre very wrong. I was huge fan- that has had the life sucked out of me for NU football due to having to endure watching bad football and seeing how awful our fan experience is compared to other venues. Yes I didnt complain when I was a kid and had little to compare it against- now I do. We havent kept up- taken advantage of.

Is the grass field thing a pipe dream as well ? I know they said they wouldn't install until stadium infrastructure was complete
It would cost less than $1 million to install it. Probably only cost anywhere from 50 to 100k to maintain a year. I remember before the 1996 Fiesta Bowl when Lee Corso said our run game would struggle on natural grass. And look how that turned out.

Dannen seems to want to move towards Memorial being a multi-purpose facility, like the Zach Bryan concert. Is grass compatible with that vision of multiple concerts a year?

Probably not. Just more evidence to point to what some Husker fans already know. The University doesn’t care about a Winning football program, just a profitable one.

We All Stick Together in All kinds of Weather.

You most not be one of us.
Red, it really is not that simple. We are same age. We have suffered through really bad football for a long time.

My patience is worn out, sorry. I still am one of us though, just sad.

If we start winning 10 games a year and going to the playoffs the stadium will no longer be an issue. I’m not coming to a new stadium either just to watch us find another way to lose.

The state was never asked to chip in quit making **** up
Idiot. Here you go. Do you have Google? Or are you still using Windows 3.1 ?? The State WAS asked to help. Erdman told them to win more games and come back later.

AI Overview

State Senator Steve Erdman has expressed strong opposition to using state funds for the proposed $450 million Memorial Stadium renovation, citing poor timing and bad optics.
Key points regarding Senator Erdman's stance include:
  • Opposition to Public Funding: Erdman has challenged the initiative to seek state funds for the renovation, stating in November 2023 that it "looks bad" when the university is simultaneously considering tuition increases and making budget cuts in other areas.
  • Optics and Timing: As a member of the Nebraska Legislature's budget-writing Appropriations Committee, Erdman argued that the athletic department should have waited for better on-field results (under coach Matt Rhule) before asking for significant funds.
  • "Self-Funded" Argument: The pushback from Erdman and other donors comes despite claims that the UNL athletic program is self-supporting, contributing $10 million in surplus funds to academic programs annually.
    Nebraska Examiner +3
While former AD Trev Alberts originally proposed a "public/private partnership" to fund the renovation, the proposal faced pushback from several lawmakers who expressed concern about the project's, which at one point had a $125 million, funding

No. I recently heard a pretty detailed discussion about this very thing because of the World Cup coming into all these artificial turf stadiums in the US this year. Long segment but in a nutshell, the World Cup is making them all convert to real grass for their games (among other things) and that, of course, started a lot of discussions about the NFL going to natural grass. The resounding answer was that natural grass is way too expensive to maintain and makes it impossible to reasonably switch the surface out for other events.

Funny, the main subject of the World Cup stadium thing I was just talking about in my previous post was Jerry Jones and Cowboys stadium. The KING of not caring about a winning football program, just a profitable one. At the recent NFL owners meetings, he took it so far as to say that if the players wanted natural grass, they'd all have to take a pay cut to fund it.

$70 million is a lot cheaper than $450 million.
It about the Money. It’s always about the Money. It a $Billion$ project with current costs. It’s the Money.

Am I losing sleep over this project? I’m not.

Nobody cares except the contractors who need the work
Try winning some games first
The support isn’t there- fans are fed up. This year the sellout streak ends and they finally see that Atlas Shrugged moment has arrived

They waited too long- greed

JFC. If you cannot stand a couple hours of first-world discomfort to cheer on kids who are risking everything to bring home a W?

Maybe you should just stand up!!

As a longtime west-stadium season-ticket holder, a few additional creature comforts would certainly be welcome. That said, I rent a seat-back for like $5.00 to protect my butt/elbow room, and spend the rest of the time screaming when the other team has the ball, and double guessing play calls on offense with the guys sitting next to us when we have the ball.

#QuitYerBitching
I can’t love this post enough. IF you have to do something, take a few spots out per row to give each person a little more room. It’s fine. IT GETS USED ABOUT 35-40 Hours per season. Damn.

This article sums it up that the regents are geriatric retards who are about as indecisive as an Asian lady cutting in front of people on the highway.

West Stadium needs a rework, yes. But my main complaint was the bathrooms. The south end zone desperately needs attention, and our attendance will only go down with how much the athletic department is gutting the football program. But thats an extreme.

With how much NU has invested in its other facilities, there should be nothing left in the dark about plans to fix up Memorial. I would have to agree that if nothing is brought up about it in the next regents meeting, the fanbase needs to reconsider investing their money into something else.

He is correct on the south stadium. You shouldn’t have to go 98 or whatever rows to piss . But the other the restroom situation in general is no worse than other places ..

How the fk do you know? You probably never attended a game.
Missed a handful of games since 1970- all the title games etc. 4 season tickets until this coming season. Have lots of friends and family who attend and support . I listen. So no. lol- there are people commenting here that supposedly go to games and didn’t even know fan seats were banned about 10 years ago and thought the price for rented seats was $5 neither are true.

I know a few people inside the program- also huge donor who I’m very close to. Telling me things that add up. Would be happy to wager- sellout streak ends- this season.

Unfortunately it needs to- so the football programs poor results finally have an impact on attendance and finances. They have been riding on the steadfast support of our very loyal fans. No fan base has supported a program through thick and thin for so long. So while other fans get to enjoy their fan experience in these nice venues- we don’t. Bad football and bad venue is not a good combination

Speak for yourself. We tailgate a bit and usually have 1 beer at the game. So I’m definitely hitting the can before the game starts and at halftime. The stadium empties out pretty well at the half. Lots of those are using the rr.

It’s easier, cheaper, and much more enjoyable to watch a game at a fan-friendly pub/bar. Meet your friends there, order an appetizer or a sandwich and a drink, the waitress will come around to serve refills, the bathroom is a short walk away, and the weather is no worry. Save a ton of money and you can watch other games during the now seemingly endless commercial timeouts and video reviews.
