So sorry for your family’s loss.

Wordsworth:

What though the radiance which was once so bright
Be now forever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower;
We shall grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.

Passed suddenly yesterday. She made it to 100 and 17 days. I'll miss her dearly. I shared with her the boards congratulations, so I figured I share this. All good things come to an end regrettably.

Shalom

Potter.

Very sorry to hear this Potter; hoping the many good memories of her and kind words from friends and family are of some comfort to you now. The sting of the loss will never go away and these early days are rough, but she had an amazing run and by all accounts a tremendous family. That is worth everything.

Goin' home, goin' home
By the water-side, I will rest my bones
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
To rock my soul

Condolences Potter and Thank you for keeping us in the loop. Safe travels to mom.

In another time’s forgotten space,
your eyes looked through your mother’s face
Wildflower seed on the sand and stone
May the Four winds blow you safely home…..

What a great life. Hey make it to the big 100 and pass. Not that bad at all!!

my moms favorite song. In the garden.

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.”

Mr. Potter. Sincere condolences to you and the entire Potter family on your loss.

How is the Potter family planning on properly recognizing mom-mom's life? I'm somewhat unfamiliar with Hebrew traditions but it doesn't seem that there is a natural gathering of kin on the day of burial.

Key Rituals and Practices
  • Taharah (Purification): A designated group (chevra kadisha) ritually washes and purifies the body.
  • Shmirah (Watching): The deceased is never left alone from death until burial, with guardians reciting psalms.
  • Kriah (Tearing): Immediate family tears a garment or a black ribbon, symbolizing loss, usually done just before the funeral.
  • Levaya (Funeral): Burial traditionally occurs within 24–48 hours, avoiding Shabbat or major holidays.
  • Burial: Embalming is avoided, and bodies are buried in simple, biodegradable wooden coffins. Family members may shovel earth onto the casket as a final act of love (chesed shel emet).
  • Shiva (Seven Days): The primary mourning period. Family stays home, sits on low stools, covers mirrors, and avoids entertainment.
  • Shloshim: A 30-day mourning period where mourners slowly return to public life.
  • Yahrzeit: The annual anniversary of the death (according to the Hebrew calendar), marked by lighting a 24-hour candle and saying Kaddish.
Mourner Etiquette
  • Visiting (Shiva): Visitors traditionally bring food to the mourners to alleviate the burden of preparation.
  • Condolence Phrase: Upon leaving, guests say, "May God comfort you among all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem".
  • Attire: Modest dress is required, often with men wearing a yarmulke (head covering).
