The Deal hate is disappointing. And we will see if she was a bad fit. No guarantee Carnegie will be a great fit.

But let’s not assume TS starts at 3.

Maybe MW is a perfect 3 and Journey shines at 4

I don't see much hate for Deal here, yes some obvious frustration that she wanted to take her game elsewhere. She had some obvious weaknesses she would have to work on. I still would have preferred she stayed, but Carnegie is a better player than her right now. Could Deal blow up into an elite star - yes but its slim in my book. There is also a question of why she left. So things didn't go her way so she picked up her ball to go elsewhere. Thats not leadership. Its also not how life works in general.

The odds Carnegie are a good fit are high. 1. Elite player 2. has been really good in 2 different programs which means she can adjust well 3. Barrett and Chit Chat know her demeanor and how she will fit in. This has about the least amount of risk of any player. The biggest risk being injury.
As to Stremlow I do agree with you - I still think her best role is 6th man to come in for the 1, 2 or 3. She could be a starter at the 3 but I could see Journey or a transfer taking that spot as well. Thats not to diminish her, she is a heck of a ballplayer. She holds a special spot for this team and Jan though. Captain as a sophomore. That means she does the little things right.

Any chance JH starts at 3? It seems that’s her vision.
I recall Jan mentioning Journey at the 3 next year. She played guard in HS and played it pretty darn well. She just needs to work on that position in the off season and I think she will do well in the coming years.

I love Journey's game, but TS has better handles and better range today making her the better fit at the 3.

I'm guessing it matters to the players. The only reason it really matters is because the minutes typically correlate with your position in the rotation. It does happen, but it's relatively uncommon for players coming off the bench to average more minutes than the starters. Most coaches like to stick to a consistent rotation. In an ideal world the most effective players always get the most minutes regardless of that, but we don't live in an ideal world. Bmac was one of the few coaches I've seen that liked to do this. He stuck with the same starting lineup all year, but he'd almost always pull his starting PF Manyawu and insert AF, and then manage their minutes based upon how effective he was in that initial stint. Their average minutes were almost identical at the end of the year and the only players he stuck with game in and game out were Stirtz and Koch. Jan did a lot less of this, resulting in very large discrepancies between the starters and backups. Maybe that changes this year if players like TS, MW, and JH are all performing at a similar level.

I was referring to the people on this forum.

Jonesy we know you really like Stremlow, I like her too. Both players strengths are effectively getting dirty and being in the right place. Jan told Journey if she wants to be a 3 and get time she has to work on her game. Of the 2 Stremlow has the slight upperhand, but I wouldn't count out Journey or potnetially another Transfer addition.

I love Journey, but in this case it's as much about the holes in Journey's game today as it is about Stremlow's strengths. The 3 needs a player who can handle the ball and shoot from long range and we just haven't seen that from her yet. Doesn't mean she can't get there or that she can't continue to be very productive with her current skillset. If she does she'll be a force.

You are ignoring the growth a player can have during the year. Especially from year 1 to year 2. You are right though we haven't seen it yet. Its an open ended question and I am fine with waiting.

I'm not ignoring anything. I specifically stated it doesn't mean she can't get there. I don't know what's going to happen between now and then. I just know what we have seen to date.

I think this is right. JJ obviously preferred AD based on recruiting her and giving her the starting nod over TS. Deal failed to deliver. Now she’s recruited DC for the 2g. JJ said TS is better as a SF…another way of saying she’s not talented or effective enough as a 2g at least starting anyway.

Journey definitely needs to improve her perimeter skills to play the 3. I think because of her size this would help on the defensive end as much as anything.

But how JJ plays will be interesting. There’s no HS who was a warrior down low but extremely ineffective on the perimeter. Not sure you can play the same half-court pound it into AVa offense. Look for next years team to run more and play uptemp to really maximize strengths.

Whiting is the other player that was suppose to visit this weekend. Maybe she is visiting today. We need another solid depth guard. I would like someone with a little better 3 % but she has experience and ability and would be a bench player.

Now MW has an all-time record with 13 boards at the Hoops Summit and 17 boards at the FIBA U17 World. Although there is a desire for her to risks yourself as a wing, she is a legit PF, positioning herself on the court all the time as a post player who occasionally shoots 3Ps. I think she has a bit of the Hannah factor of fighting for the ball by bumping into the rim. But she’s a bit taller and has more technical skills. Her ceiling is much higher. She can and needs get stronger, but MW isn’t the same type of 5-star recruit as Deal. MW was top 5 contender for to be named All-American POY, best PF in the country, starter at the MCDAAG and the Hoops Summit, starter for the USA Team. I would be surprised if she wasn’t starter with an immediate impact. And if that happens, Iowa will have one of the best frontcourt duo in country with MW and AH.

If MW slots immediately into the 4 and is a contributor/factor, then that should make AVa even more dangerous. Especially if they can get out in transition.

Feels like the potential flaws/weaknesses would be consistent 3 pt shooting and depth. Which I’m assuming will be addressed to some degree over the next few days.

Now let's get Whiting and McCowan to fill out the guard court. I assume one additional player not identified yet. Then focus on building a five player 2027 class. Seubert is a great start.
They are still hard after Tianna Thompson. She would be a 3 point specialist (40%) but there wouldn't be a lot of minutes. That would be an extremely deep bench and a ton of Juniors.

Once again, congrats to JJ and LaSondra for bringing Dani into the fold. We still need a "4" and there are many still available.

Essence Cody 6'3"
Skylar Forbes 6'3"
Mallory Miller 6'4"
Ice Brady 6'3"
Isi Momodu 6'3"
Nunu Agara 6'2" ***
Mia Woolfolk 6'3" ***
Jessica Petrie 6'2"
Justice Carlton 6'1"

Woolfolk or Agara would be an absolute homerun.

We need one more true PG, who can play 10-15 MPG and eventually play more if needed, on a day that Chit Chat isn’t doing well or who can start if Chit Chat can’t play. No team has only one true PG on the roster. Almost every teams has three PGs. It’s a very important position to improvise with. It’s crazy to have only one true PG on the roster. Signing a true PG in the Portal is a huge necessity.

Yup I think we still need a 4. Woliczko seems like she could start but at minimum we need a back up in case of injury

I think Lit is a brother or Dad. He's butt hurt. Put him on ignore. I did this morning. Let me ask everybody, if you have a neighbor who is a pain in the arse, what do you do? Of course, you stop talking to him. Ignore that whiny, little pr!ck.
Maybe, but he's also not wrong. Stremlow is a bulldog, she's an OK player, but if you can get something more you absolutely do it and have her come off the bench, again. She's not a star, likely not ever gonna be, so quit acting like it's some kind of a crime to recruit over her. If they can they should.

You watches different games down the stretch or you didn’t watch at all. TS wore down big time. She’s not a starter. You just didn’t watch or pay attention. She wasn’t a starter at the beginning. Wasn’t a starter once TM got hurt. JJ even said she’s a better 3 because she knows she’s not a 2. They had to recruit over her. And they did big time.

But you have consistently advocated her over the team. You just lost.
Honestly, do you even know what the hell wore down means? If you said that to Stremlow she would laugh in your face.

Predicting Journey to transfer doesn't sound like much of Hawk fan. I watched Frank's six pack at the field house when I was thirteen. Attended my first Iowa football game when I was nine. Have had season tickets for 41 years. F-off bonehead. I bleed black and gold.

Posters who put others on ignore can’t make strong, compelling arguments. They’re repeatedly overwhelmed by critical thinking and it becomes too frustrating.
