Dude, just because she's a fiery player and Jan considers her a leader on the court doesn't mean that she was "The Leader" on this team or in the locker room. She was a sophomore who was coming off the bench just a month or so before. The team lacked leadership from the only 2 players who had played in meaningful games and you want to blame the least experienced player out there for the team falling apart. KF and Hanna were seniors from a golden era of Iowa basketball who played in a ton of meaningful games and they were absolutely terrible out there. The team was "Led" all year by Ava and Chitchat, 2 more sophomores. The team did lack experienced leadership. There's little doubt about that. That doesn’t mean that these sophomores, Stremlow included won't grow from this experience. UCLA seniors scored every point in the Final Four. That's not just talent. That's a lot of experience as well that brought them a championship.
I never said she was "The Leader."
I said she was the "face of vocal leadership."
If you want to construe "vocal leadership" as "The Leader", that's on you.

So a top 10 team for the majority of the year, the #2 team in the B1G, the runner up in the B1G tournament - 2 5 stars, 3 4-stars commits isn't good enough for you? We got 2 massive wins against Michigan. So what that we lost 1 game we should have won, it just so happened in the tournament. Maybe you are anon. Yes it is an attack, its also unrealistic expectations.
I imagined that by saying Iowa deserves more, some people here would go into 'I need to defend my team from the haters' mode. I'm not a hater, I assure you, I'm just a fan who thinks Iowa deserves at least an Elite Eight team. Iowa is the most popular team in the world, They have to be really bad at business not to turn popularity into money to have everything necessary to sell and attract Elite Eight level players to the team, and excuse me, Kylie Feuerbach and Taylor McCabe never were and never would be Elite Eight level players. When we accepted that they would be the starters, we accepted that the team wouldn't be Elite Eight, but we had surprising wins, which was great, the team did above expectations for a team with starting guards with 6 PPG in their careers each one. But the bar was always low, and when the level rose, the limit became evident. There's always a bright side. A team with such technically limited guards demanded super development from our PG and our big. Chit Chat and Ava Heiden are now Elite Eight level players. We hope MW will also be there, and then we need to build an entire team around them that is Elite Eight level. That's what I hope Jan will do through the Transfer Portal. And if we get Dani Carnegie, a great first step will be taken in that direction, and I'll be very optimistic.

Iowa Fans deserve it . . . . How exactly do they deserve an elite 8 team? You seem to forget McCabe committed to Iowa in 2020 - 4 star recruit well before anyone had dreemed of Iowa making it to consecutive championship games. Remember 2020 was Clarks first year yes they were 20-10 6th in the B1G. They were a 5 seed, they did get to the sweet sixteen but that was it. Feuerbach was the #71 ranked recruit in her class and she transferred to Iowa also before Iowa had gone to the national championship. This was before Clarke had exploded, the Iowa womens basketball team was one of the most popular teams to watch. They were both recruited by Bluder who Anon thinks should come back. But yes lets think a fantastical world where Iowa is too good for Feuerbach and McCabe and Hawkbr dictates what is good enough for us fans. As I stated that sure does look like a haters take that is extremely unrealistic. I stand by statement. You can be disappointed they didn't do better but you and fans deserve nothing from these hawkeye womens. There are

What we do get, is to enjoy watching them play, enjoy the wins, be frustrated with the losses, talk about ways they could be better and have a nice distraction from life. There are 361 ncaaw division 1 teams. There are at minimum 40-50 teams that do have the necessary resources, and quality coaches to be successful each year. In order to be a top 8 team each year you are beating out a significant amount of elite teams. Focusing on an early upset in the tournament is disrespectful of what this team achieved this year. They played like an elite eight team but they didn't get there. Go look at where we thought this team would be at the beginning of the year. Most thought sweet 16 or less and around 6-8 in the B1G. This team outperformed during the season by a large margin.

Not that it's all that relevant to what fans "deserve", but I honestly don't know if "Iowa is the most popular team in the world". They certainly had the most popular player on the planet for 3 years. Nobody outside of Iowa really cared about the team before her, and I doubt that a whole lot of people outside of Iowa care about them now that she's gone. They do still have a devoted fanbase within the state however, which is definitely worth something. I'm just not sure that alone is deserving of an Elite 8 run every year. I think that's really unrealistic for pretty much any program not named UConn or South Carolina.

I will say this however. I think if just a few things fall their way they will contend for a Big10 Championship and an Elite 8 next year. They need to keep the nucleus intact. They need to acquire one really high impact guard/wing and 2 high quality guard/wing backups. If they can do that and their starting 5 stays healthy, they're going to have a terrific season next year.

Welcome @HawksGoneWild1, an account that just started posting April 4th.

Why do these threads keep devolving into this team should be an elite 8 or sweet 16 team? This is a discussion about the transfer portal. Lets stay on topic and the alts, please quit trying to derail this thread.

Long time poster on the previous incarnation of this board.
Is it an alt - this specific account was first created September of 2024? Less than 2 years old. In either case welcome - LOL

Edit: It just seems like several accounts seem to be fighting their own agenda here. So when I saw an account with a mad emoji and saw it just started posting I made an assumption. Sorry.

Is this really all about making one more free throw against Virginia? I personally think if the team got through that game, they would have been relieved of the pressure weight they were obviously carrying, and beat TCU to be in the Elite-8. So much angst and griping about a missed shot.

Hey, it didn't happen, but they certainly had a team capable of E8. Could have a better team next season, but no guarantee. Single elimination tournaments require some timing and luck.

Who knows where all their shooting ability went? It was a really bad time to play their worst. Young teams can do that.

Hanna was not terrible. She averaged 14 points (55% from the field) and 17.5 rebounds a game in our two NCAA games. Hanna was carrying the team on her back.

You're right. Terrible might not be the right word. Her rebounding was terrific. Her 1-6 free throw shooting and 3 turnovers contributed to that Virginia loss. She was 8-22 (36%) from the line with 6 turnovers in those 2 games. That's pretty terrible by any measure.

As we patiently wait for some news? The following has happened.
These forwards have all committed.

6'4" Rachel Okokoh to Ole Miss
6'3" Lauren Hurst to Virginia Tech
6'1" Laila Reynolds to LSU
6'3" Edessa Noya visiting Iowa State
6'1" Reece Ross to Baylor
6'1" Achol Akot to N. Carolina
6'3" Sophie Sene to Colorado State
6'1" Maya Anderson to Ole Miss

On Talia's X account barely a mention of Iowa.
In an interview with Dan Patrick, Michael Redd said US colleges MUST start paying more attention to the European players. He said, "they are more fundamentally sound, have stronger mechanics and play team basketball rather playground ball. JJ and her staff still have the chance to find a foreign player. They have not tapped that market. It is ripe with strong athletes. A friend of mine, Nemanja Calasan, from Serbia, played at Purdue from (2007-2009)with Robbie Hummel. Whenever we talk, he always says your Hawkeyes (he went to Purdue) need to find foreign talent. There were over 35 international WBB who entered this year's portal. JJ and her staff have to broaden their recruiting base and find foreign talent. It is there if they search.

Just a little context here. I did post a lot of long post on the old forum before coming here. I think that's what Scott is referencing as I wasn't just a casual poster over there.

On my first post here, I did state the reason of why I came on here late. For some weird reason, this board kept on telling me the WBB forum was premium content. So I figured you needed to pay to post here. Well a week before that April 4th date you cited, I could finally start to see post without paying. One poster in that 1st thread said, I'm too poor to pay for that and that's why I come to this free WBB board. I was pissed when I read that. This whole time it was telling me it was premium content up until recently. Have no idea what glitch happened to tell me premium or else I would have been posting here right after the old forum went down.

On the other board I had to go to, there was a poster who said you're really into the WBB team? I said, yes I am and I have a very good reason of why. I will now disclose it on this board also. I wanted organic post about a particular player until she ended her career at Iowa. I played BB with Steve Feuerbach (Kylie's dad). High 5's and all. I have other disclosures I will save until the appropriate time. They are not about other players on the current team/roster.

If Cambridge commits, and if Chat and Dani are friends with Thompson, she could be the 3&D player they need. Watching her highlights, I'd like to think they have already given her a call. A lot can happen as valuations start to shake out.

Really? She’s currently playing meaningful minutes in the WNBA.
?? So you think every player in the league was a 5 star player? Maybe want to check that out. Kate's there as a 3 and D player who has some grit. Kind of player you like on your squad, but she's not an elite player. If Clark hadn't begged her (for months) to come back for her 5th year she wouldn't have been drafted.

In either case its fine. You can have your opinions. What I will state is other than the elite of the elite prospects, the handful of players that are mismatches, recruiting athletes and specifically players in wbb is a crapshoot. Its why we can recruit 1 5 star in Clark and get a generational talent and you can recruit another in Deal who may end of being a decent player, but no where near the level of Clark. Filling Clarks shoes is an impossible burden. McCabe and Feuerbach gave every ounce for the program. The they ended up getting significant minutes is a testament to their defense and effort they gave to playing team basketball. If you don't have a team that has Clark on it that you can outscore teams, then you better beat them with defense. And the last 2 years they have. They could have easily been an elite eight team had they hit free throws. Chit Chat had 4 free throws in the last minute and hit 2. Chit Chat crumbled which she hadn't done all season. So I appreciate you being a fan, but understand both McCabe and Feuerbach gave their blood sweat and energy, their bodies and ACL injuries for both. Its not that they can't be an elite 8 team. They inevitable will be. However as Hawkeye fans we do not deserve an elite eight team every year. The Hawkeyes currently have some advantages and I do hope they are able to take advantage of those. As Hawkeye fans we should enjoy the successes we have had and those in the future. But being extremely short sighted on this team, by the difference of 1 free throw in achieving a level of success you deem suitable is extremely shortsighted in my opinion.

You do know that Rodriguez is/was an international player. She was the opposite of stronger mechanics and strong team basketball focus. LOL It also comes with its own issues as payments that are allowed are much different.

You keep up with your drival. I'm sure you get a kick out of it. By my math Crooks would need to score about 45-47 points a game next season to catch Clark. I'm sure Hidalgo at Notre Dame is going to stand around and run that plodding 1/2 court offense feeding Crooks most of the game. Lolol...
Hidalgo gets enough steals that Crooks’ issues on defense should matter less

Do you have a link to that Dan Patrick interview where Michael Redd said that US colleges need more international players? This is where Rick Torbett brought his brand of Read and Read to the US from Europe. I'd like listen to hear if there's any other little nuggets in it.

Writing that Iowa is the most popular team/ most popular WBB brand isn't a personal opinion, it's what experts on the subject say.
