Maybe, maybe not. But he would have been a very important piece in the construction of the teamNU isn’t the 93 Bulls. Tre would have been our top scorer next season.
Helpful! Chase was an elite athlete. Tre is not. If he gets stronger and develops some low post moves, his lack of shooting can be mitigated. They play completely different positions
I agree with your assessment. Tre is a slow jumper.Helpful! Chase was an elite athlete. Tre is not. If he gets stronger and develops some low post moves, his lack of shooting can be mitigated.
We also landed Chase thru the portal to replace another player who didn’t work out.Helpful! Chase was an elite athlete. Tre is not. If he gets stronger and develops some low post moves, his lack of shooting can be mitigated.
Chase also never developed the smoothness and comfort around the basket Tre showed up withThey play completely different positions
No disagreement that it is loss. All I’m saying is I don’t see the massive upside. He can’t shoot. And this isn’t cope, I thought this after the first few games. The minimization of Singleton’s role at NU is perplexing. I think it’s mainly a cognitive trick to cope with disappointment. He was one of our highest ranked recruits and contributed as much as any first year we have seen. He was on track to be a very good player for us. There is a reason why CCC wanted to keep him. It doesn’t matter if he’s NBA material or not. He’s the type of player we need.
He will also get to play in the NCAAT each year. That may mean a lot to him and raise his draft stock.Tre Singleton is a moron. Giving away an NU degree when he’s far from a pro is as dumb as it gets. He’ll make a few mil over the next few years, blow it, and then what?
Yea. It sucks when players leave but going to a non-rival like Iowa State where he will likely be in the dance for a couple of seasons makes it sting less.He will also get to play in the NCAAT each year. That may mean a lot to him and raise his draft stock.
I thought you said he’d never make seven figuresTre Singleton is a moron. Giving away an NU degree when he’s far from a pro is as dumb as it gets. He’ll make a few mil over the next few years, blow it, and then what?
Cumulatively maybe sure. Won’t matter. You can’t live on $1.5-2M from 20-90.I thought you said he’d never make seven figures
That doesn’t mean anything. Scouts want to see you play the best, not the 14 seed. Plus there’s so much coverage no one gets discovered anymore. He will also get to play in the NCAAT each year. That may mean a lot to him and raise his draft stock.
1.5 million in a HYSA is clearing over 45k a year. By the end of his sophomore year he’ll have made close to 2 million.Cumulatively maybe sure. Won’t matter. You can’t live on $1.5-2M from 20-90.
He’s making $1.5 M this year alone while continuing toward a college degreeCumulatively maybe sure. Won’t matter. You can’t live on $1.5-2M from 20-90.
Hey man, taxes. Still, not a start to sniff at.1.5 million in a HYSA is clearing over 45k a year. By the end of his sophomore year he’ll have made close to 2 million.
Even if he just earmarks 500k of that for retirement and invests it at his age, he’ll end up with 10+ mil by retirement age without saving another dollar.
Can very easily live off the money he’ll make in college the rest of his life if he wants.
What if he just wants a chance to play meaningful games? His freshman year, the season was effectively over in December. Maybe he wants to play in the NCAAT. Iowa State is there every year. And for what it’s worth, this is likely not a pure money grab since Iowa State is famously low on cash as has been bemoaned by several former coaches and players there. That doesn’t mean anything. Scouts want to see you play the best, not the 14 seed. Plus there’s so much coverage no one gets discovered anymore.
Lol. I’m sure the guy leaving an NU degree on the table will be smart enough to earmark half his college earnings to retirement…1.5 million in a HYSA is clearing over 45k a year. By the end of his sophomore year he’ll have made close to 2 million.

Yeah, how can people ever make intelligent decisions if they didn’t graduate from NU?Lol. I’m sure the guy leaving an NU degree on the table will be smart enough to earmark half his college earnings to retirement…
It is a different level/type of athleticism required for the different positionsChase also never developed the smoothness and comfort around the basket Tre showed up with
Let's hope not, but this looks like the national trend - the vast majority of teams are now just prep schools and talent funnels for the top paycheck teams.I hate to say it, but the Iowa State decision probably makes a lot of sense for him. I'm just concerned that this is our future. We are now a minor league team who gets freshmen ready to play at other schools.
At least in European club soccer, there are transfer fees built into transactions. That way if you're a "development club" you're at least rewarded for your efforts.I hate to say it, but the Iowa State decision probably makes a lot of sense for him. In my world of multi-year NIL contracts that were enforceable, the buyout clauses would also be enforceable so guys effectively COULD pay to leave for a huge payday, but they’d have to announce their intent to do so at like the start of the portal window so the team could deploy the money. At least in European club soccer, there are transfer fees built into transactions. It was intended that he was going to be a big part of the core for us that they would build aroundThe minimization of Singleton’s role at NU is perplexing. Getting millions at this point in his life can set him up as well or better than the NU degree. And getting the chance to play on a team that is closer to winning can be pretty important as well,Tre Singleton is a moron. Giving away an NU degree when he’s far from a pro is as dumb as it gets. He’ll make a few mil over the next few years, blow it, and then what?
First, he is getting that for one year. (suggestions were that he was being offered $1.2-1.3 ,ill for next year and it likely went higher and that is for one year and he is likely to get that or more for 3 years) Second, if he puts a bunch of that away (he likely gets $5 mill, taxes of $1 mill,(good tax planner) spending $1 mill and puts away $3 mill) and has it working for him, it will take very good care of him, Third, he is likely to be part of a winning program sooner (makes it more enjoyable for him) and potentially has more visibility for his attempt to go pro either in US or overseas, Does the new program prepare him better for that next phase? Forth he is probably gonna get a reasonable degree and in the things he will likely be going for, there is less difference in that degree that you seem to think,Cumulatively maybe sure. Won’t matter. You can’t live on $1.5-2M from 20-90.
If he as that kind of money a good wealth planner can get a lot more than 3% and the $1.5 mill is for 1 year while he will probably be getting it for 3 years1.5 million in a HYSA is clearing over 45k a year. By the end of his sophomore year he’ll have made close to 2 million.

With that kind of money, can also afford tax planner to help reduce that,Hey man, taxes. Still, not a start to sniff at.
I know plenty of people going to lesser schools than NU that have done very very wellLol. I’m sure the guy leaving an NU degree on the table will be smart enough to earmark half his college earnings to retirement…
