Metcalf promoted to Head Coach at ISU

They beat us, they're relevant I would say.
I mean technically if he took over the wrestling club, he wouldn’t be leaving.
Not a university job that would be covered by his contract. Also a massive pay cut.
They don’t have the money to fund a middle management job like that.
I don't think we should be the mark for relevancy in college wrestling anymore. We're tier 2 with Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa State, and Virgina Tech.
In the last fifteen years, ISU has beaten us once in a dual, once at NCAAs (gambling year), and finished in the top ten at the NCAAs twice. They haven’t won a NCAA championship in 39 years
They are in no, way, shape, or form on the same tier as Iowa. (Though I do think they have done a fine job of bringing the program back to respectability from the catastrophe that was the KJ era.)
You must have come here from the ISU board, where I just read they’re a blue blood.

Funny, I completely spaced the match between him and AJ was in the semis and not finals. I did enjoy watching him get worked by Trumble too... Long week I guess

Iowa st dropped Gymnastics. Adding a womans team and having dresser be the director of wrestling wouldn't change his contract

So go from #1 assistant/head coach in waiting at ISU to #3 assistant at Iowa?
How could they afford to pay his regular salary through 2029, pay Metcalf a competitive salary, and pay the new assistant to replace Metcalf
And where are they going to find that kind of dough? (Ignoring that his contract is to be the head men’s wrestling coach, of course.)
They currently pay Dresser Metcalf St John Fernando and Perry through the club. Maybe they dont have 4 on staff now and go with 3 .

Dresser is a better fundraiser than on the mat coach. The wrestling team is doing fine in the NIL era they were recruiting heavy at Nationals. Chris Ayres didn’t mention them for no reason.
Adding some bigger names is what I would do as the new 'Clone coach. Wrestling might be the only sport at ISU not seen as a stepping stone to a better job at another school.
And then there's the money to consider. No Iowa university has buckets of it to throw around on assistant wrestling coaches, unless you're the head coach's twin brother or something.

Relevance is relative. There are really only two potential championship wrestling programs at this particular moment, and neither of them has the word "Iowa" in their name. IMO, that needs to change.
Nothing quite says passing Iowa by like a guy who’s flamed out of every coaching job he’s had and been selling medical equipment the past several years.
Metcalf was the face of the program and embodiment of Iowa wrestling in TnT's first few years. Whatever happened between them?
Weren't we just told that ISU was irrelevant?
Perfect opportunity for TNT to show personal growth and extend an olive branch with Brent and other ostracized alumni. I guess some are small thinkers.
