Who's not that good? Are you referring to Addie or Jan? There's no doubt, based on reports of compensation, that she was paid well above what might be expected for her level of production, especially relative to her teammates. It wasn't money well spent. I don't blame Jan as much as a system that created this mess to begin with. She's not operating in a vacuum, and you see a lot of similar situations around the country such as Journey's old teammate Bourrage at LSU. Hopefully there are much fewer Addie situations at Iowa in the future and more success stories to point at.
I was simply responding that I agreed with a post that suggested coaches are in a very difficult position today. Previous to NIL and University funding if a new player didn't pan out it was a poor use of a scholly. Now a miss could mean a lot of money poorly invested.

I wasn't commenting on the fairness or unfairness of the criticism.

True, but I guess the portal works both ways currently. While players can leave its also easier to "move" players along if need be. Not the way I'd like to follow my team, but this is where we are.

It's coming to a point that when you bring on a high school or transfer, plan on only having them for one year and if they stay longer and are productive, you are going to have to increase their compensation.

Only because their name, image and likeness has increased in value....Right? ;)

This is not pay for play....Right???

These are still student/athletes....Right?

I wonder if fans are eventually gonna get turned off by how college sports have become professional sports.

ESPN did their end of year reranking of the 2026 class today. I know they don't really matter, but I
was kind if hoping McKenna would move up to 5.

But her ranking just dropped today to #7 in the country because 6'4" Okeke (who can dunk) from Spain doing her senior year at IMG got ranked finally by ESPN and put at 5th. So 5th and 6th (McKenna) got bumped down one each.

Ava Heiden was ranked #42 her senior year. Look what she has accomplished after two years. She's hard working, dives on the floor, is tough as nails and is coachable. All Big Ten and only getting better.

Espn rankings are 100% worthless....the people they have doing the rankings are pretty clueless

Exactly. If you were to rerank that class today she'd easily be among the top 4 forwards with only Sarah Strong standing out above the rest. Her growth has been exponential and she had many moments of looking unstoppable this year. I predict that Ava will be second or third team All American next year scoring 20+ per game.

I don't know about worthless, but as is the case with most evaluations, they are very subjective and once you get past the top 10 there's probably not a lot of deep analysis involved.
