My #1 would be Wright, #2 is Okorie, #3 Dedan Thomas, #4 is the kid from VCU (Not listed) and #5 Zoom Diallo.

I’m not sold at all on Zoom to be our #1 guy like some of our fans, but he’s not a horrible option.

Too many under achievers on that list. Only 4-5 guys I think I would of offered. Unless we are okay with mediocre, unless they're going to be role players

Everyone taking about 40% from three doesn’t understand how Pope runs his offense. And like it or not, that is what we are stuck with. We need a lead guard who can get to the basket and convert tough shots. That’s why Butler was so huge for us, and that’s why it needs to be Diallo or Wright. Dudes who shoot 50% on two’s at ten attempts per game at the college level do not grow on trees.

We need a PG that’s 6’2 or taller and at minimum 190lbs, preferably over 200, that can play physical and drive to the basket to score or dish off effectively.
Braden Smith/Ja'Kobe Gillespie/Tyler Tanner/Tahaad Pettiford/Elliott Cadeau/Robert Wright and Aden Holloway are all in the 6-0, 6-1 range. All of them tore up college basketball this year. There's many others but you get the point. And Tyler Ulis was basically a dwarf and was SEC Offensive AND Defensive Player of the Year.

Not pointing this at you directly, but height/build don't mean a lot in college. And I've seen this a lot lately from fans on here and on Twitter. You don't get hunted down and picked on like in the NBA. Guards rarely post each other up in college. If a guy can ball, he can ball.

To answer the OP's question: I really like Leroy Blyden and Colby Garland as "secondary" PG options. Getting one of those guys to come off the bench would be fantastic. And Terrence Hill is one of my favorites in the portal. Can play both guard spots. I think I'd be OK with him as our starting 2 guard.

Oh definitely agree, though Tyler was a very unique specimen, the SEC is an extremely physical and athletic conference, JL would have struggled had he stayed for next season, IMO. There are still a lot of capable option, by Monday evening think we’ll have a much clearer picture of what next year’s team will look like.

Alex Wilkins is a sleeper pickup. Love to somehow add him and Wright.
Wilkins is a good one. If he makes a little Sophomore leap look out. But I don't think you could - or maybe would really even want to - get both Wilkins and Wright. They're both starting PGs and probably pretty costly.

Maybe Sean Jones could be obtained in a back up PG role (although he's probably looking for more opportunity next season too). But I actually think M. Williams will be fine as the backup PG. Good Freshmen with higher floors are made for backup roles. Especially if one of your 2Gs is a CG.

They both look interesting to me, especially Garland. Garland played 35 minutes a game last year, would he come here to play much less ??

Gonna be tough to nail a really good PG willing to come off the bench, even though there's a lot of PGs out there. Might be a spot to overspend on. Ideally I'd like to get a backup PG that can shoot and play some SG.

Thanks for the list. And it copies & pastes into Excel well so can sort.
I think some might like to see Height added as a row.

I focus first on 3pt%>35% (for a PG), Stl to TO ratio, FT%>75%, then school level & Pts & Ast.
Other important things stats can't show well include defense and quickness & ability to get to the rim & finish, so those unknowns could raise/drop how I'm ranking them.
But from what we have in this table, my preference order would be Wright, Hargress, <gap>, Frison, Cruz, Bliss, Winston, Okorie, Dent.

It wasn't Portal based. I started working on the list months ago. Started out as kind of a running list of PGs that I thought may be underrated and likely portal options. Then as the season wore on I continued to add guys and adjust the stats. And, of course, there are many guys I missed that should be on the list - in fact, it would be cool to see folks throw those additional PG names out for discussion.

I have to admit that I'm not good with much of any of the drafting programs other than Word (and I fight with it quite often). In fact the list was a Word table and I squeezed about all I thought I could on it. But if you feel like it, take the list and make it better and repost it.

As for the PGs on the list, one I think that is criminally overlooked is Trevan Leonhardt. This board would explode with negativity if Pope brought him in - mainly because he is Mormon and coming from Utah - but I'd be ok with him EVEN as the starting PG. He really does everything, including defend, well across the board. Not flashy, but just gets it done running an offense. Not saying there are not better options obviously, but I do think somebody is going to get a steal with Leonhardt.

Agreed. Zoom's 3pt shooting and assist-to-turnover ratio is extremely concerning to me. At this point you have to look at a player for what the player is, not the "in Pope's system" BS.

Meh this isn’t always the case and it’s not a one size fits all deal. Every single time JJ entered the game, he got hunted down and picked on, on both ends. Many variables go into it obviously: instincts, body control and upper body strength being a few.

I agree ... I see what you see. He's active off the bounce, but is not solid from behind the arc at all.
A/T ratio is nothing special, either, if not even worrisome.
