On the big portal thread I posted a long and detailed Claude and Gemini AI analysis of last years portal action that might be totally wrong. Here is one relevant section.

2. Commitment Timelines: How Fast Did They Move?

While players entered the portal quickly, the "commitment" phase varied based on the player's caliber.
Player ProfileAverage Time to CommitTypical Motivation
"Instant Impact" Stars1–2 WeeksTop-tier players (like Sa'Myah Smith or Olivia Miles) often had "tampering" rumors or immediate high-major offers, leading to commitments within 7–14 days.
Rotation Starters2–4 WeeksThese players typically took visits and waited for top-tier spots to fill before claiming the next best available scholarships.
Depth/Role Players4+ WeeksMany players in this category remained in the portal well into May and June, often waiting for rosters to stabilize or for mid-major programs to finish their recruiting cycles.

This is one of the misconceptions of the portal. Was watching several talking heads yesterday saying the portal window is too narrow. They said it is too short of a time to decide. These players can decide weeks or months after the portal closes.

Getting visits while these players are still in school isn't always easy.

I wonder how many don't get signed because teams may wait until the portal closes after the 20th to prevent the current roster from jumping in the portal if they feel recruited over. A lot of players that may not be the case as the team won't risk losing them but I'd guess that could be the case with some.

So many people (mainly media) don't understand that the "portal window" is only to enter. You can commit to a new school at any point after the portal opens until school begins next fall. Or after that even. It's not like getting into classes is an issue for a lot of student-athletes.

We are so screwed.

We are not getting anyone

Iowa is going to have to have open tryouts with the students to fill the roster.

Jan cannot recruit.

The assistant coaches cannot recruit.

Iowa wasted all the momentum from Megan winning the Naismith and have done nothing since.

Iowa has an all white team.

We should just defund the womens basketball program like Iowa State at this point

I agree. They are just taking away practice time from Carissa Wolfe.

We are Majorette U and the fact that these women think practicing basketball is more important than continuing to be THE destination for a Majorette is damn shameful.

(Iowa actually is Majorette U)

I mean, he has a point. The level of negativity and vitriol directed towards a coach and a team that just came in second place in the best conference in America by a group of posters on here has been over the top ridiculous. People have grown tired of it, me included.
Several are trolls who I have on ignore. They are not going to bring us down. It is great to be a Hawkeye! Jan and her staff are doing just fine.

FWIW, BOOM! Not quiet anymore. Welcome to the Hawkeye family.
