No stats to be found… praying this is a depth signing end of bench for next to $0

He was with Overtime elite in the g-league for a bit but signed with NMSU in 2023 with no playing stats at all? That’s really odd and concerning
Unlikely he came for peanuts. It was likely ‘an offer he couldn’t refuse’ to sign so early.

Pikell is out of his league in this new era of NIL and roster management. He needs to go back to a Stony Brook to be successful where he can build a roster and work with guys that will stay around. Definitely not the right guy to move us forward. Does not take a rocket scientist to see it.

This signing is almost irrelevant. 2 centers and 2 power forwards at a minimum. Do not have to be on a high major. If you watched the conference tourneys of all the mid majors there are plenty of skilled tough shooting and rebounding types that can do short rolls and get a basket inside 10 feet. Focus must be there.

We don’t have a lot of individuals here with real basketball knowledge but everyone thinks they are an expert. Less than 30 players have signed so far and we have people complaining already. It’s pathetic.
Not sure who’s complaining but if you watched the pod this morning Richie rattled off that the high level names we were targeting have mostly indicated they were not interested or are close to committing elsewhere

we had some high level guards such as Blyden who is apparently down to Kentucky and Texas AM … Kavian Kennedy likely looking elsewhere, Tyler Betsy asking for more than we can spend

limited sample size of who we have targeted but not good early returns

they also didn’t sound especially enthusiastic about Hines from Seton Hall being on the radar

I’m not complaining but I am concerned as PSAL has mentioned that the wounds on the Rutgers brand under the current regime create an uphill battle to either have to vastly overpay for good talent or continue to basement hunt

No, that stopped like 5 or 6 years ago. I know D1 coaches that were spending more time on fundraising than coaching. Use the excuse it was the AD's job and this is where you end up, the hot seat.
Successful programs had the ADs office doing it. Unsuccessful ones had no help. Coaches helped ADs to recruit donors and the ADs office took care of everything.

First off misleading title on the post- how are you a transfer from NMS IF you are not currently attending the school.

NJ.COM did a nice job describing this kid - apparently he was a former recruit in prior years.

Typical of the posters on this board needing to be talked off the ledge - as "this is a typical RU worst case scenario".

The same reaction as last year with Tarique.

He averaged 8 points a game in the Dominican professional league whatever level of competition that is considered… I would imagine lower than Europe and china

there’s reason to still be skeptical i think… I myself am choosing to look at this as an end of bench depth piece for cheap in which case job well done

You can tell yourself that, but its not necessarily true. Plenty of successes had no support initially. I even know of one coach who was so successful raising for his program, the schools fundraising arm started bringing him in for dinners w donors for non academic reasons.
