I'm actually optimistic. Pope can and probably still whiff but I'm not upset a dude that avg 10 ppg and a G leaguer with no hint of an NBA future went to Providence.

We cut the fat on the worst and most unlikeable UK team I've even seen (quit watching for a bit so I didn't see the Covid team). I'll reserve my judgment till after the portal closes.
I’m with you on this. Pope is gonna be here next season and we have 99 percent of our portal targets still on the table. I’m gonna try and be optimistic until I can’t be.

My word. The handwringing.

Portal has been open two days and this a visiting dead period. Let’s see where we stand after the weekend and into next week. If we still have zero commits next Friday, then panic.
Providence got a wing and Michigan replaced one of their departing bigs. Thats about all that’s happened of consequence in the portal thus far lol

Everyone of consequence for the most part has a lot to shop for and a lot of money to do it with empty rosters at the moment. Kids will go elsewhere…the vast vast majority lol

As much as I agree with this, I think the panic comes from
A)we have more players leaving than any other team in college basketball
B)we have one recruit signed for next year.

so we need bodies. The good players will probably start dropping in the next week, and we honestly need 7-9 bodies.

I’m not in panic mode like a lot on here, as there is still many players making decisions, but we need to start getting somebody soon.

This dude made 10 offers to high school players this year and hasn’t gotten a single one of them. What in the world is going on in these meetings? This didn’t include Mo which just feel out of the sky because his dad needed a job.

Kentucky basketball recruit Chris Cenac Jr. commits to Houston ...
As of early 2026, Kentucky basketball has not secured a commitment from the 2026 high school senior class, making it one of the latest recruiting cycles for the team in recent history. Coach Mark Pope is heavily pursuing elite talent, with at least 10 offers extended to top prospects in the 2026 class.

Hell, his last school, BYU has a top 15 class coming in, they improved after he left, the fact that he had to hire MO Williams to secure his son speaks volumes in of itself. I‘m going to say with 95% certainty he’s fired after this season.

“We tried to warn everyone”

Just think of the lives that would have been changed if they’d listened to grown men acting like 12 year old girls whining on a message board. Oh what could have been.

Sometimes I wonder are a lot of jackasses like yourself even a fan, I’ve been following UK since about 1979, and these are amongst the worst times in that span, Pope is a complete debacle, that will be on full display this year for the world to see, this will be his final season.

NO coach gets every player, or even most players that he wants. And you (nor I nor any of us) don't know how many of these Pope wanted vs just "kicked the tires" to determine if he wanted or not or was just a backup plan.

One more season and it’s all good
Yeah I think so. I’d LOVE for him to put together a great team & turn it around but man, it looks unlikely.

My fear is that he does juuuuust a little better this year. Loses 8-10 games, gets a 5-6 seed and maybe makes the Sweet 16 again and they give him another year.

Mind you, I want Kentucky to do as well as possible, but I think that kind of year is Pope’s ceiling and reaching that ceiling would cause the higher ups to justify the hire and keep him on.

Lol teams post lies about how much someone offered. Lanier was from tn though so maybe true. We lost out on a eligibility stricken pg and a sf which we still have Hawthorne and williams. Most teams have lost a bit bulk of their players.Tn, Kansas, north Carolina, and portal is still open

That’s cute. Can’t say I’m a lesser or greater fan but I can say I’ve been a fan for a long time. I’ve traveled to Chapel Hill to Tampa to Bloomington to College Station to Vegas and so on to support my favorite team. Been through the ups and downs before. What I haven’t done is act like a little beetch in every thread started.

I’ve been on record here saying I wished we could have moved on from Pope after this year. I’m just smart enough to know that wasn’t happening. So yeah, when I see “we tried to warn you all”, I laugh because the vast majority on here know the situation, we’re just not weak and pathetic miserable losers. Now carry on. You have other threads to whine in.

You still have many claiming MP isn’t the problem, JJ’s uncle obviously heard it from him directly that the players didn’t have a connection with Pope, I’m not a bit surprised.
Im thinking Pope might be on the spectrum and has a rough time being comfortable socializing one on one. May come across as offputting to recruits. Pure conjecture on my part, but we have the money, the brand name, and Pope seems like a likable guy on TV, so there is no reason why we shouldn't be getting some quality transfers or recruits. The reason has to be he is just an awkward person, or JMI's constraints are the issue. Or a little of both?

If it's wasn't for the whining "12 year old girls" Barnhart would have completely ran both football and basketball into the ground by now. Apparently us 12 year old girls are smarter than the UKAA.

Good grief, a little research you would know he finished the season 12-21 and people around the program were calling for his job. It has been reported by several outlets his seat was hot.
Yes the huge Jackson St. fan base was pressuring the administration to make a move and HARRRRRR Hurley!! What "people around the program"? They have "people around the program"? In his 4 seasons at JSU he was 47-25 in the SWAC. The OOC record and his overall 56-74 record is misleading in that the HBCUs being the lowest level of DI have to play many money games OOC to keep their programs afloat. So, prove that "people around the program were calling for his job." In fact, his contract was just extended a little over a year ago.

If you want to align yourself with the intellectual giants on here that use the term Pope Cultist and Mark Poop then by all means go for it.

I mean what is a Pope Cultist? @kyjeff1 is as positive as anyone on this board and even he has said if things don’t get better he’s done with Pope.

I'm sorry, are you responding to me or some other argument you are having with someone else in your head? Fact is, simple observation over the years had told me that Barnhart will not move to make changes unless the fanbase are grabbing torches and pitchforks. Cultists? Nah, more just garden variety apologists for any results.

Not sure anyone thinks he has a game plan, let alone a master game plan
Yeah, I think Pope is just throwing darts in the dark. What incompetent nerd. No coaching or recruiting ability. We'll be lucky to beat EKU next year. Oh my G.

That's not what a fan says. Fans support there team and coach. Even if we have a bad year we don't shut down the doors.
Pope is here next year. Get a grip!

I am a realist and that means someone is going to have to show me that Mark Pope can coach, meld a team together and instill a killer mentality in his guys. So far I just am not seeing it. He couldn't do it at BYU and he hasn't done it here yet.

We have heard this so often. Everyone says we didn’t spend 22 million but every player we missed on has someone saying they took half the money to not play here. Make it make sense!
The ppl pointing out that they think we didn’t spent that much money need to at least admit Pope has to recruit better. To many ppl including myself make excuses for it but that needs to stop and it’s becoming an issue. To get back to being a real Kentucky basketball program he has to do better scouting/recruiting

Every single year, our fans convince themselves that we're going to be so much better than what we actually are. People will convince themselves that it's gonna happen and that every player who commits is going to be great and help us go further.

We will be bounced in the first weekend of the tourney next year and Pope will be canned going into the week of the Final Four.

Yep. Just a week ago it was complete doom and gloom "we'll be lucky to field a team," etc. Now we're tinkering with the best lineup combos that are going to take us to the FF. It's a strange bunch. There's no middle

He’s going to be on season 5 of Netflix Love on the Spectrum.
