Things just aren't adding up. Sure, maybe Pope isn't some ace recruiter. But can he really be THAT bad? I feel like any of us could at least have landed 1 or 2 of our targets if we had UK's facilities, resources and notoriety to play with. Something just seems really off.
I mean, maybe? Guess we’ll see next week. If it ends up like last year you have to very seriously consider that CMP is just that bad at relating to college kids

One offensive wing and one defensive lol.

Perfect level of school to take the risk imo. Not just risk with eligibility but how he’ll translate to college ball which is just different than G League.
He’ll be a damn rockstar and we all know it. Should’ve been a cat alone with Byrd and Stokes already moving to Lexington. This is bullbutter.

Who had Providence making the first two big splashes in the portal???
Providence made the biggest splash when they hired their new Head Coach. Great recruiter & plays the Bama - Florida type offense = 3 pt shots or Layups. Saw a pod cast with him saying every player he had talked to wanted at least $1 million to transfer.
Providence is going all in to compete for the Big East

Pope can’t recruit. I am not mad because I don’t even know about Pate(wasn’t really thrilled with him at all) or how good he would have been, but he spent a lot of time trying to get him. Hart still didn’t land him lmfao. WTF is going on here. Providence again?
I'm gonna guess & say both Pope & Hart found out something about the eligibility thing & backed off. Maybe it was just bad timing of finding out after spending all that time recruiting him? It would really suck to get a commitment from Pate & it scares off another top PG, then when the season rolls around, he's ineligible.

Got outbid probably. How much is Pate worth? I read that he was not a pass first guy. But we need a Yatzee. Soon!
He’s a pro with all the potential to be an All American to be honest. I 100% wanted this kid here.

I never wanted him. But I’ll be damned if Pope didn’t put a lot of time into recruiting him. I’m gonna hope Pope had a change of direction in the type guy he wants, but it’s probably just another whiff.
Maybe Keegan said bro, Dink Pate is a NO. Let’s move on.

Who is their coach?
Brian Hodgson. He was a long-time assistant to Nate Oats going back to his first staff at Buffalo and went with him to Alabama. He didn’t move into head coaching until 2023, but he’s quickly gotten results, winning his conference regular season at Arkansas State two years ago and both the regular season and conference tournament at South Florida this year before taking the Providence job. We’ll see how he does there, but at only 38 years old, he seems like he legitimately has a chance to be a rising star in the coaching world right now.

I don’t think people understand Pope had 2 full seasons to recruit guys for this upcoming high school class and he managed to get one 4* prospect who we hired his Dad. That has to be a tad concerning even for the biggest pumpers.
Thank you for the clarification, PooPooPeePee.

Add him to the list of good candidates that our athletic department has never heard of.

And, here people were convinced UK would lose out to SMU and Hart. People who said they never wanted Pate now acting like this is some harbinger and great misfortune. I think when the dominoes start to fall, they will fall fast. There is a lot of ride left. Buckle up.

Too bad he didn't play at Kentucky 30 years ago.

I'm glad we didn't waste more time with Pate. Even if he is somehow eligible he's not very good. I didn't know if we get a guy that's better but at least there won't be eligibility concerns

Of course that’s what it is lol
We’re just hoping that Pate and Byrd just weren’t the right fit for us and they didn’t spurn us for someone else. Feels like we’re desperate looking for any excuse to not say that we lost these two guys that the coaching staff probably really wanted.
