Not gonna lie, I am a little disappointed

And last season sucked ***. What exactly is your point?
It sucked because Pope overpaid for players that didn't fit.
Now we have some guys critisizing him for doing proper evaluations and passing on guys that want more than what they are worth.

I've been concerned ever since Stokes pushed his commitment date and my concerns about losing out on good portal guys while waiting on Stokes, could actually be happening. Hope not, buuuut…
The fact Stokes hasn't committed yet simply tells me he's waiting to see how the portal plays out before deciding anything. Given Kansas pretty much lost their entire team, I'm sure he wants to see what's going on over there.

It's fairly remarkable that Self had his entire team hit the portal - guy has clearly lost his fastball. You wonder if KU has some sort of handshake with their coach of choice to come aboard next year.

I'm not sure what he's thinking, or looking for, but I get the feeling he pushed it after Pope added Mo Williams to the staff and maybe that gave him more to think about.
It’s also possible that Pope sweetened the deal. Either way, it sounds like Saturday is the day and it would be weird and ballsy, if he commited to an Adidas school, while at the Nike hoops summit.

At this point I’d be very happy with Diallo, the Detroit PG, the VCU guard, Murauskus, and Freeman. Add a shot blocking center and retain Kam, Hawthorne, Noah and Potter along with Mo Williams son. But I’m not confident we’re gonna land anybody.

Providence prioritized Byrd, but if you have FF aspirations, you can't prioritize a guy that shoots 30% from 3. Byrd obviously wanted more money than he is worth, Providence paid it, UK didn’t. It was the right move by Pope.
There are plenty of things to critisize Pope for, but him learning his lesson from last year, isn't a bad thing. He overpaid for too many players last year.
We will be worse than last year but at least Pope learned his lesson about wasting money

What exactly do you want? You want Pope to over pay for guys that don't fit again? The big fish aren’t off the board yet.

Are you really that upset at loding out on Pink Date and Byrd? I'm not.

If we get twomof those transfers we would be very lucky

I want a competent coaching staff that doesn't weird out players that can assemble a team full of dudes for fair market value. Basically anyone but Pope.

Same as last year everyone Pope contacts commits somewhere else so he has to go to a lower talent level of players to assemble a team this process will be his demise as the coach of the winningest program of all time.Blowouts and losses will increase over last year and the patience of fans will run thin until enough is enough.

Fear not, we should have guys committing by the end of the portal window when they have no other option left but to come and play at UK for millions under Pope.

Call me naive but I thought we would have at least one commit by now. I know the portal just opened but players agents have been in contact for weeks.

so far, we have only one visit scheduled. You’d think we would at least have a few more by now.
We are BBN, so we are super obsessed about this stuff, so we are all anxiously waiting.
But players were just 3 days ago allowed to officially enter the portal, so while backdoor discussions may have taken place, no official ones could. Certainly, no campus visits if players want to do that, this weekend is the first time that could happen.
Also, very few players have already committed, especially on the upper end (top 50) players.

There are two transfers in the top 100 who have committed so far. Seems like this is how it goes. However, I will be concerned if we have not signed someone by the middle of next week.

This is what "understanding the assignment" looks like.

Byrd was asking too much and the d league pg if went here probably wasn't going to be eligible. Isn't Byrd a sf like williams and Hawthorne is?

You know what I'm disappointed in? All the hubbub about this Artemis mission. John Glenn did it on a street bike back in his day.

More like circle jerk of reality. While I much prefer for UK basketball to be relevant I can promise you them not being relevant adds zero misery to my life.
Not you but it's incredible reading some of the emotion pouring into their posts--you'd swear a lot of posters on here tie the performance of a basketball team to their life's happiness.

Maybe me being a big UK football fan taught me not to do that (of course based on history of the program). The sun always comes up after a loss.
