FedEx jersey patch coming to all University of Memphis athletics
The University of Memphis will a FedEx jersey patch on all of its uniforms in every athletic program starting this year.
I played on a LL team with Coca Cola on my jersey decades ago.***Yall might as well get ready for this. This is the one thing US sports is behind the world on when it comes to marketing. Like everything else when there is money to be made, we WILL catch up…..rapidly.
Or maybe think outside of the maroon and white box a bit and think much bigger.Maybe we should reach out to AFLAC and make a deal to wear their patch since Davis Wade was one of the founders. Or maybe Viking Kitchen Appliances out of Greenwood or Mossy Oak of West Point....both founded by MSU grads.
Not that my opinion will influence this, but I absolutely hate it. Every time I turn on an MLB game and see legendary uniforms with patches on the shoulder I cringe, it looks so bush-league. There are bigger opportunities than that. The SEC is a national brand, and there are a ton of eyeballs on SEC games.Maybe we should reach out to AFLAC and make a deal to wear their patch since Davis Wade was one of the founders. I fully expect us to end up with a patch of Richard Schwartz riding a John Deere tractor sold by Wade. There are bigger opportunities than that. The SEC is a national brand, and there are a ton of eyeballs on SEC games.
The Memphis Grizzlies don't have a local company advertising on their jersey, they have a nationally branded company advertising on their jersey. That's how we should be thinking about this.

I'm sure Selmon is, but I doubt many national brands are receptive. It's easier if you already have a relationship. I'm fine with the patches because frankly when you're Mississippi State you have to do things other school won't do. Hopefully the Bama's and UGa's etc don't do it because of "muh traditions", allowing State to pick up a decent sponsor. There are bigger opportunities than that. I'd be willing to bet just about anything that no school will forego an opportunity to earn advertising revenue because of some nod to "tradition."I'm sure Selmon is, but I doubt many national brands are receptive. The original owner of Viking sold out years ago. I don't remember who owns it now, but it ain't Fred Carl.Maybe we should reach out to AFLAC and make a deal to wear their patch since Davis Wade was one of the founders.
