Any rumors or whispers of Iowa players transferring?

So far, I haven’t seen any names tossed out as serious candidates to leave.

In an era of a revolving door transfer portal, you would expect to at minimum see at least 1-2.

I know during one interview with Trey Thompson he mentioned he chose to enroll early at Iowa and picked Iowa over an impressive offer list because he was so blown away by Ben McCollum and his staff.

Is it fair to say BMC has a roster of kids very happy to play for him? (Not trying to be Captain Obvious, but curious what others think/have heard?)

Alvaro is probably the most likely one to leave.
Yeah, I saw that.

But then someone reported they heard he was staying, so who knows?

FWIW, I hope Alvaro does stay. After one season of P4 college basketball under his belt, he could make an even bigger leap next season. Obviously, he is not the answer down low, but with his size and shooting ability he could be a matchup nightmare, especially if Iowa can get any scoring out of the post next year.

Agreed ...as we experienced with Freeman, someone out there is willing to overpay.

I like Alvaro, but his complete resume' this year was lacking for what we paid him (~$1.2M'ish) He obviously made his name in the tournament and I'm sure there will be schools making substantial offers that Iowa may choose not to match.

Yeah, if that’s the case and Alvaro is trying to get a bigger payday, then BMC should let him walk. There are too many bigger priorities than a 6’10 wing player who doesn’t solve Iowa’s issues in the post.

I'm sure BM had a conversation with Al about being a multi-year player. There may be a layer of trust there that only they know about.
I hope he stays. I think he will be more consistent next year -especially if we get a true center so he doesn't have to match up with bigger guys inside.

Good points plus Folgy knows the system now, what's expected and a full 6 months plus of work and strength and conditioning with Iowa, which he didn't have last year due to that summer tour, etc. I hope he takes the deal, puts his head down and works because he could be really good in this system, he's shown flashes just needs some consistency.

As recently as a couple of days ago Trey was adamant that he will be here next year. I can think of no reason to doubt him.

Based on various podcasts, sounds like Folgueiras and Banks are the unknowns. Banks wants to come back, but odds are that he is not granted another year of eligibility.

Seems Folgueiras is roughly 50/50.

Yeah, I wasn’t questioning Thompson staying. I just referenced him as an example of the respect BMC garners and why it would make sense there hasn’t been a flurry of players declaring their intentions to enter the portal.

RE: Banks ... From what I have heard on various podcasts, it sounds like Banks has been inconsistent with his answers on the subject. Sometimes talks about coming back; sometimes talks about next year's team as if he won't be on it. Sometimes sounds like he might be ready to be done with college; sometimes not.

It's a mystery.

Do you have any insight into why Banks will likely not get another year of eligibility? Not doubting you and I haven't been following as closely. I figured with the NCAA and their (lack) of enforceable rules he would be a shoe into him getting.

Thanks for that info.

Most are saying that Banks won't be eligible next year despite submitting a request for another year. He's a good player with high basketball IQ, it'll be tough to replace him.

Frankly, I'm not following the legalities, but why wouldn't Banks be eligible? Pavia and others have been granted extra years based on junior college play. How can some be given extra eligibility and others not? That sounds arbitrary and capricious. And why is it taking so long? Ben needs to know NOW so he can build his roster. The facts are straightforward. Make a damn decision.

Or maybe just have Banks come back and play and take the NCAA to court if it objects.

If need be. Better to ask for forgiveness than permission, as they say.

Would also be nice to know how many open roster spots there are at the moment. Ben has PG and C needs to fill.

The NCAA granted a one year waiver this past season for JUCO athletes who would have otherwise ran out of eligibility because of Pavia's legal challenge.

It wasn't meant to give everyone who's attended a JUCO extra years which is why Banks' request seems like a long shot.

Why did Pavia get special treatment again?
