No doom and gloom here. College basketball is now big business and curious how our investment is paying off. To be sure, there is a great deal of talent available; more important question is whether JJ and Iowa will be a major player in gaining some of this talent. I am not anti JJ, I am very pro Iowa; however, as a quantitative realist, show me some results. Last year's recruiting was a bust. Our one recruit,McKenna, will be great. I have seen her play several times. Her father is a class act and he will do anything to help JJ and Iowa. We need two of the top players and then 2 or more subordinate players to maintain a strong roster.
Last years recruiting wasn't exactly a bust. Addie was a highly recruited 5 star player who unfortunately didn't warrant the adulation as a freshman. These things happen. CCW was perhaps the second most valuable player on the team and will continue in that role next year. Journey was a solid contributor as a true freshman and will be integral to next season's success.

TCU is attracting more attention than Iowa over last couple of years. Big 12 is not same as Big Ten, but they either have donors or recruit very favorably. Iowa was set to play TCU in sweet 16 but never made it. TCU is plucking some bigger portal names. Lucy was iowa's surprise landing. Just my opinion. Iowa's attendance and CC22 is not the biggest issue for many, but is for some.
The farther Iowa WBB gets from the Clark era without getting past the first weekend, the sooner the program returns to the "good, not great" days.
The sunshine pampers just refuse to acknowledge that.

Actually Teagan’s first game which was an exhibition game she shot pretty well. Got me thinking that she was going to be pretty good.
Yep me too, I remember that game thinking man we have a shooter. That was her best shooting game of her career unfortunately. For some reason she just couldn't get it going. Injuries, health and lack of prolonged playing time had a lot to do with it. What could have been. I hope she has better luck at her next destination

Jordan Lee from Texas and Ice Brady from UConn in the portal.. Several players from Texas leaving...It would be nice is Addison Bjorn would have second thoughts about Texas...wishful thinking. Here's hoping Brueggemann finds Iowa City attractive and JJ and company believe she fits the "culture".

Back to hurling insults...you're such a prick.
Congrats???
Just for clarity sake I had not addressed you at all this morning.

Then in post #862 you call me a dick (Richard)
then in post #868 - you call me a Karen
Now you have called me a Prick

So if you don't want someone hurling insults at you, maybe don't toss them in the first place. Also when you make salacious statements and someone calls you on it. Acknowledge your error or own it. Don't claim I am the crazy one when there are posts to back up your sillyness, hence why I call you having dementia.

Need a Kleenex?

Arguing with Kyle is a bad look and gives the vibe that you're extremely arrogant and seek validation for your comments.

This place is crawling with university burner accounts trying to steer every conversation away from the real problems with this staff and roster. That is not fandom. Real fans call out what’s broken and speak their mind.

And if your move is to block anyone who disagrees with you, grow up. That’s not strength, that’s insecurity. Life doesn’t hand out participation trophies just because you can’t handle a different opinion.

While I am sure the University, as every big brand, has people that monitor social media, I highly doubt that they are creating burner accounts or really even care what a few anonymous people are saying about their coaching staffs.

He is aware and has posted the info on the pay side, The information will eventually come out but you have to remember that this site has people that are paid salaries, With that comes the need to generate revenue, Part of driving revenue consists of giving information to paying customers. Not trying to be an A hole, Just reality. It’s up to each individual to decide if it is worth paying to be a member. I actually pay more out of wanting to show my appreciation for the site than hoping to get ā€œinsideā€ info.

I have been thinking of paying the annual fee, but one question I have since you are on the premium site, is there less griping and arguing there, or about the same as here? I used to be on the premium site on the old Rivals and I thought it was a little bit above the fray.

Don't know how Iowa's and TCU's financial resources compare, but TCU head coach Mark Campbell is a great recruiter. His TCU bio brags that during his "seven-year assistant coaching tenure at Oregon, . . . he became widely regarded as the nation’s best recruiter. While in Eugene, Campbell was responsible for the recruitment of three top-10 picks in the 2020 WNBA Draft in Sabrina Ionescu (No. 1), Satou Sabally (No. 2) and Ruthy Hebard (No. 8). He also assembled the No. 1 overall recruiting class in 2020, a group that included five players who were both consensus top-25 talents and McDonald's All-Americans." Since arriving in Fort Worth, he has also demonstrated that he is more than just a great recruiter.

It was reported during the tournament that he has had 6 transfers in each of the last 3 years. They must have plenty o funds available.

Because everything with you is a backhanded compliment. And you can’t admit it.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I guess if people don't just blindly go along with everything is hunky dory then their being negative or not falling in line with your opinion. I don't believe my comments are backhanded at all. I've supported Jan from day one. (Maybe you should go back and check, if its that big a deal to you). I'm also a realist, and Jan has a big task ahead of her to rebuild this roster just to stay top 5 in this league. I'm sorry if that's not the same opinion you have, and apparently the only one that's acceptable here.

The last time I looked, Georgia Tech is in Georgia.

No kidding. AND its a rival school. That's like saying that we'd have an in recruiting Iowa State girls because were in Iowa. For the record while those players you mentioned went to Georgia last season, there not FROM Georgia. I don 't see how Barrett haven coached at GT gives us an in with Georgia transfers.

Maybe he just meant the state of Georgia vs the The University of Georgia. šŸ¤” But yeah. Either way Barrett probably has no sway there.

This is where the two new Iowa Asst coaches can raise their stock on the recruiting side of things. Everyone puts everything on the head coach but the Iowa asst coaches are the main recruiters and selling the program. Will be interesting to see what direction they go as far as the guards, do they try to find more guards that can create and have great ball handles or more of that 3 point stand up shooter that they have had. Obviously a combination of the 2 would be great. I don't know why but I have this feeling that they are going to hit at least 1 homerun in the portal and then fill it out with some better athletes than what left the team. I think all the ones that left , left for different reasons, two of them in Deal and Rodrigues I think were chasing $ by their reps and getting bad advice and more than likely were definitely taking a pay cut going forward. The other 3 I think just wanted to play and the road to major minutes was just not in front of them at Iowa and are pursuing the opportunity to do so elsewhere and I hope they find success. The more I think about it back aways when Iowa signed Deal who was a 5 star point guard that seemed to be when Greenway started to lose interest in Iowa and the way it looked we stuck quite a bit of money in Deal and now really finding out her own rep was the one putting the stars in front of his clients names for recruiting. Back then i would say 99.9 % of Iowa fans would have said they would take Deal over Greenway including me falling for the star bait but crap I would take Greenway over deal in a heartbeat right now.

whynot?

I believe one of the Georgia top portal players, played at GT her freshman season with Chit Chat.

Maybe that would help, but that's not what he posted. And Frankly then were chasing a player heading for her 3rd school in three years. I hope she's really good, but may not stick around at the same school in year 4 either.

Hope you're right. 3 point shooting is extremely important but we need to get more athletic and have better handles in relation to our backcourt.

I think over 90% of our turnovers were the result of errant passes, primarily related to post feeds, and not the result of pressure on ball handlers. CCW and Stremlow are both better ball handlers than KF or Addie were.

When teams pressed us we had quite a few bad pass turnovers. I would hope to get some athletic ball handlers to help. In your grill defense caused us some issues

This will not be a popular take but I have a strong opinion on recruiting. My first few years of recruiting I always found holes in players games and passed on them, searching for the perfect player. Without having my desired success I started looking at filling our team differently. I looked at what we needed and what a player CAN do to help us, not what they couldn’t do. Our teams improved a ton. What’s the point I am trying to make:

How about a player like Kenzie Hare? What do we need? I would say a priority is three point shooting. Can she help us? I guess that’s the coaches call but she might be a very good fit for the Hawkeyes. We certainly need to go after former 5* or 4* players but let’s not under value those players who can fill a big need. Hannah and Kylie had holes in their games but I hope we would all agree they were huge contributors to the Hawkeyes success. We are, not yet, a blue blood program where 5*s are lined up to sign. (AKA U Conn).

I was a paying member for years - 15-18 years I think. Stopped about 7-10 years ago. Just after started having kids. Generally its a better group of posters, they are paying members, have some skin in the game ect. In general the womens forum has always been the best forum. There weren't any trolls and it was really good discussion. I honestly always really enjoyed coming here. The issue is its starting to trend the way of the football forum with Trolls just intending to rile people up.

Since we moved over and this basketball season it seems the 1 specific troll has become a nuisance. I have always stated these boards would be better if they would just nuke their accounts but the usually pop back up with another alt.

The information is usually pretty good and at times you do get some nuggets early, however with X and all the other social platforms, information is so much more free flowing than it was in 2004 when I joined.

This is definitely getting closer to the football boards. Nothing wrong with criticism in regards to the team but a couple... that's all they got. Couldn't say 1 positive thing about the team, coach or program...gets old. The same can be said about the other side if you say one thing they might take critical of their favorite player. But I guess it's still better than the game threads 😬
