Don’t underestiment how much money Louisville is willing to spend on athletics. They will sacrifice academic areas in order to do so. Adidas may also throwing in cash and there are many willing donors. There is much more local money in Louisville than Lexington
Hope they upgraded the talent pool. The last batch was a bunch of closing time chicks and that’s being generous.

My guess is their chances at Shelstad are higher than that of Flory. Shelstad seems like a pick between Arizona and Louisville. Flory is just looking for the biggest bag in college basketball and trying to leverage his way there imo

There is no "buzz" around Pope. Money is one thing and apparently we don't have a problem in that area. So, the obvious answer is little to no interest in playing for Pope. Other coaches are probably casting doubts on his abilities as well.
The portal just opened. We let the players we were not sure of walk instead of over paying them. Let's wait a couple of weeks and see what happens.

And if he does end up being good, Pope will sub him out after he gets hot, if Pope leaves him in and he scored 30, he’s all we have and Pope has to rely on one guy to do it all. Pope got a 5 star recruit? It’s only because he’s hurt or because he’s from a bordering state to Kentucky. Pope smacks their idol in the mouth in head to head matchup? Pitino just let him win.

1. I like Pope, but he's not good enough to be a coach at this level. He's not done anything to earn the job. What has he done in his ELEVEN years as a HEAD COACH to make you confident that he is an elite coach? It seems like the story of his career has been full of excuses (i.e. injuries, not right players for the system, small schools). When he had players that fit his system, what has he done?
2. His first team had double digit losses. I understand that it was his first season and the SEC was a juggernaut. However, it is an indication of what he has always been, a 10+ loss coach.
3. If he was a competent coach he would have brought in more than one point guard.
4. What does his championship as a PLAYER from 30 years ago have to do with him being a head coach? Heck, Kenny Payne led UL to a championship as a player.
5. I'm not in love with Cal, but I would be lying if I told you that I wasn't envious of his accomplishments since he got to Arkansas.

It’s interesting, while I don’t disagree about the lack of buzz around Pope, I live in Louisville and am pretty well connected to people within U of L, and run with a ton of their fans. While it definitely feels like the programs are headed in opposite directions, I also don’t feel a ton of buzz around their fanbase and Kelsey. A lot of their fans also feel that year 3 is a big year for Kelsey. I think the one big factor that works on behalf of Kelsey is that it was pretty well known that Brown’s Dad was apparently holding that program hostage this year. While I’ve arrived at the point where I don’t think Pope is the guy, it’s setting up to be a fascinating year of college hoops in Kentucky. Lotta storylines.

3. I'm not saying that he should get fired after year two. However, I see no reason to be hopeful for next season. He's never shown anything in his eleven years of coaching that proves that he is capable of being that coach.
4. I agree that Calipari is an underachiever. However, he gets talent and at the end of the day that talent reached the Sweet Sixteen AND won the SEC tournament. Yes, I'm jealous of that.

I'm pretty sure I read something they were doing with that first Pope team, they were throwing out smoke screens about players they were interested in, keeping the ones they were actually interested in hush hush.
