I didnt read any comments of the 4 pages here but the first line where he starts clamoring about the " KIDS" I LOL'ed ... Pope might suck but not as badly as JJ performed , and I like the "kid" he can get his shot off at least ( yeah I'm looking at you CC) . Pope gave him every opportunity available and he was flat out unplayable ... so go pound sand Derrick.

I agree he was ill prepared for high level D1 ball. We all have the right to criticize these players, even prior to NIL. They were all paid in my book. They got a free education, my kids ain't getting that. They were paid. In turn, his uncle has the right to return fire and say what he wants as well.
We all understand it’s a free country but that is quickly becoming a really bad excuse for bad upbringing and bad behavior. If this is how people in that family respond to said freedoms, I feel bad for Jasper.

This guy is delusional. I’m sorry but what a psycho. He’s not even your son, leave the dude alone and quit giving every program on earth a reason to stay away from him.

I actually liked Jaspers game. I thought he could grow into something he’s got a lot of quality tools. But this kind of stuff, the immaturity, lack of respect for the game, lack of respect for his nephew, just a bad look all the way around. Jasper simply wasn’t ready for college basketball and everyone saw that. Someone in jaspers family needs to get with this man child and tell him to log off. Doesn’t matter if some of it is correct this isn’t how you go about it. If Jasper was anything like this it says a lot about the family and the upbringing.

Anyone that understands the game can see Pope is way in over his head. If you can’t see that you don’t know what you’re looking at. Those are facts. But this guy is a trainwreck this is not how you do this from a players perspective. Imagine what it’s teaching Jasper. Imagine if he ever has a regular job and a difficult boss. He won’t be properly raised to deal with it.
Imagine being a college basketball player and having your family member make a post like this. Embarrassing

every time Unc posts, someone needs to send him a screen shot of Jasper lying face down at mid court after just having the ball taken away from him as the opposing players goes in for a dunk.

then send him another one of a different player doing the same thing

and ask him if UK looked ready to dominate then

Jasper has the chance to grow into a great player, but he isn't that now and its a bad look having family members defend you. If I were Jasper, I'd call up Unc and tell him to STFU. Looks like wherever Jasper ends up, Unc is gonna follow

It’d be terrible. I can tell you this, if that was either of my sons and their uncle was going this, he wouldn’t be doing it long. And I’d embarrass the hell out of him if he didn’t stop and make my own post saying he doesn’t speak for me my wife or my son at all. It was a privilege to play for Kentucky things just sometimes don’t work out.

And if anyone agrees with this behavior I feel bad for their upbringing too. This is factually not the way to deal with adversity. Sends all do the wrong messages.

Jasper's dad clearly hasn't dissuaded the activity so that says a lot

One other issue, the guy clearly doesn’t understand how the internet works. Once rival fanbases see this, they’re going to create UK accounts and troll the F out of him. A lot of the people he’s responded too likely are fan of UL, TN, or any of the other programs that have been dominated by and hate UK. We have a massive footprint and are hated everywhere. There’s no way rival fans won’t go hard at that.

Appears you can take 2 gnats off a dogs asss and achieve a higher IQ score than this guy.

It says a whole lot. So Jasper roll out and take that train wreck family with you. Guy had the ability to be a UK legacy, that’s one of the greatest honors you can have looking back on your life. A University of Kentucky legacy isn’t something you take lightly. It pays throughout your life and you’ll always have that. Jasper is going to end up wearing 4 different uniforms, he’s going to come back when he doesn’t play for a living, and he will regret all of it. 4 jersey players will have no home, no name, no legacy of any kind. His family should be looking out for him and making sure he’s protected from throwing that away, but it seems this family is what they are and so bye.

understanding you need / can be a UK legacy and how important that is, is one of the easiest things to understand. If they can’t even get that, Jasper had no chance with that crew. His father clearly endorses this and is encouraging it from the wing. It’s pitiful. And I have said turning down UK for my kids is something I’d never have even considered but Pope would make me consider it. I think he’s that ineffective as a coach. I’d want my sons to play for a real coach, not a motivational guidance counselor. So I do understand we’re in a difficult spot with this, but even if you throw it away this isn’t how you handle it.

Jasper didn't have any rougher of a first season that Jeff Sheppard. I remember he'd get put in and would be spastic, looked liked a cartoon tasmanian devil on the court.

Ends up winning MVP of the NCAA tournament before his career is over

lesson learned there , Jasper's Uncle prefers he stay ignorant of it.

As much as I agree that Pope mishandled and misconstructed this roster; This guy is FOS. Jasper sucked and Pope gave him every opportunity. It was a guaranteed turnover and ill advised 3 point attempt every time he came into the game. Defense was non existent. Travis Perry was a better defender and that’s sad.

Good memory. Jeff showed flashes like Jasper, but definitely needed to develop. It did not happen in one year. But, he became an MVP. Good analogy. Rick did not let Jeff down in one year. Jeff stuck it out, including a RS. And Tubby brought it home to MVP.

Jasper not being able to guard a rack of basketballs tells me that he wasn’t ready at all. Pope did a terrible job with the roster not having a backup PG forced JJ to play point which didn’t help.
JJ and Pope were both at fault and I’m not sure either will improve much next season either.
Get in the weight room JJ!

Okay but how is he wrong?
Again he wasn't even close to ready for college ball, he was getting paid didn't perform. No participation trophies maybe ole Uncle may want to step back and watch the games like we did. Not going out there and playing NCCU every night, he has known for sometime that he needed to work on strength, ball handling and decision making.

I dont disagree with that ........ but how are his comments about Pope and the state of program which is mostly what he was talking about - wrong and in what way?

I don't think Jasper was good enough to EARN any minutes at any position.

He didn't need to take minutes away from Oweh or Chandler. GETTING to play actual minutes is a privelidge. He's a guard. He played as a guard. It's not like we asked him to be a Center.

If he really grew up loving Kentucky and KY Til I die--is it REALLY such a big ask that you play point guard? My god, this poor kid.

I don't really understand the "Oh no, he had to play PG" argument. Every time he got the ball, he dribbled it to death. He put his head down and forced an impossible step back 3 over his defender. He made it some of the time. Usually, it was an awful miss.

But a guy that plays like Jasper--it would seem like he wants to have the ball. So I don't understand how letting him play PG and GIVING him the basketball wronged him so.

Damn people on here saying pope can't coach while they can't even cook a proper meal, eating tv dinners. His worse flaw is he's too nice and gave Jasper any minutes at all.

How much do you need to be "developed" to check into a game and not heave a shot with no one under the goal, with two guys on you, or with someone else wide open.

Wasn't he a 5 star? I thought Cal just rolled the ball out, now 5 stars need development?
