I liked the post even though you kind of lost me Phil. But that’s cool, reminded me of Pink Floyd for some reason.
Haha, that’s an ole saying that’s very popular in forward deployed military environments when someone isn’t performing to their best abilities.

Would you fly to Louisiana, just to check to see if a kid is interested?
Then Wisconsin?
Then Stanford (California)?

You have to see if they're interested before you waste your time and their time.
Depends on the guy and if I was serious in getting them in blue next year. I would assume most of the interest talk has happened through back channels.

Don’t these guys have agents that are contacting schools about their possible interest?

The portal is only open a week and at this point our entire roster is:
  • Chandler
  • Noah
  • Kam
  • Jelavic (my bad: Jelavic bounced to portal)
  • a four-star high school PG
  • maybe Moreno
  • two guys who weren’t good enough to be on our bench last year
I don’t care if it’s zoom, in-person, or spam email—the more people we talk to the better.

So one day you're against Pope, and frustrated Pope and now you're back on board? You're just like vek. Bi-polar. I am not looking for negatives. There aren't much positives to hang on Pope right now. The players you want, just like clients you wine and dine them. They have to be intentional. This is Pope's make or break season. He should do anything and everything to land the best of the best. Maybe you should get a clue.
Hmm, not sure what you're talking about, I've been angry with Pope, but I still support him and hope he kills it next year.

However, I don't care if I hate someone to death, I still tell the truth. I refuse to let an agenda make my opinions for me.

I hate uNC with a passion, but if they're playing against us and they get called for a foul that isn't a foul, I will call it out.

Pope doesn’t need help looking like an idiot, he does just fine on his own, there's no reason to dig to find dumb sh*t to attack him for.

But you do the zoom call first. It’s common sense.

Would you just show up at a kids door, or wpuld you call him first to gauge interest?
I saw the coaches can't actually visit until the 10th, so that makes sense.

In this era you do neither, you talk to their agent to gauge interest.

You telling me this staff is calling 1000 players. NO they are not. identify the ones you want and go to them in person. That is of course you can find your way out of your basement
so you want pope to crisscross the country to see 3 kids in a day for 15 minutes to see if there is interested vs calling 2-3 dozen kids to see if they are interested. genius level strategy. i can tell you run stuff

No, zoom calls is what you do when there are a thousand kids in the portal and you have 14 days.
You aren't going to fly all over the country just to touch base with each guy to see if they are even interested.
Y'all just need to stop looking for reasons to crush Pope and start using common sense.
Coaches used to do phone calls, now it's zoom, which is better.
My God people, get a clue.
exactly.

do i think pope sucks....yup. but some fans are just being hypocritical at this point for the sake of being negative.

Does Vanterpool not look like a clone of OO? That is how I would sell it to him, just tell him he would be next in line

I'm thinking Peter Principle right now for Pope. I'm sure there are a few who won't finish reading the first sentence.

you have 14 days, it is wise to take the 1st day to find out who you have a shot at. flying cross county takes 4 hours or more, zoom takes 20 mins. You have your list of who you want, you make a call to gauge their interest, and you rule out those who want more money they they are worth, and those that are not that interest. That cost you 20 mins, not 4+ hours, and calls can not be tracked so you keep your cards hidden until you are making your big push. I'm sure a lot of players will be "hearing" from UK today, some of them accurately getting calls.

Laughable how far we've fallen
WTF are you talking about?

I keep seeing this exact bs comment and it’s false. Cal and BCG went to the NIT. Pope hasn’t done that. He was actually a 3 seed in year one, it's not the pinnacle, but GD, it's not the cellar either.

Pope had an awful year in 25/26, but he still made the tournament as a 7. Again, not the Pinnacle, but it ain't 1989, when we were on probation.

No kidding. I bet we are the only fan base having to explain to goobers why the coach is using zoom calls lololol

I know someone will post something very negative about how I feel, and that is OK.
Zoom? Seriously. WTF?

Times have changed in many ways in our society, some for the good and some not so good.
If anyone ever had a business, ran an office, you know if you want to hire someone, someone you really want, you meet with a handshake and talk in person. No email, no text and no zoom; you look them in the eye and speak face to face.

You must outwork everyone to get to where you want or where you want to go is not where we need to be.

Zoom?

You’re just old, man. No offense. It’s in your name.

Last two jobs I got, the interview(s) were done virtually over Zoom.

I’ve been with my current company 5 years and have set foot in our offices zero times. I wake up each morning and commute from my bedroom to my home
office.

My work attire is usually a cutoff tee and pair of shorts. Maybe a hat.

I have been promoted twice and have received numerous awards for my work. I have only met my boss in person twice.

I can do my job from anywhere in the world with a working internet connection. No need to be touching someone’s hand and having a staring contest in some building 60 miles from my house because that’s what my dad’s generation did.

As it relates to the portal, we have 2 weeks to get a roster. It’s much more efficient in terms of time and travel budget to schedule virtual meetings instead of flying dozens of recruits into Lexington/flying the staff all
over the globe only for the recruits to say no.

Virtual communications are necessary in today’s fast paced world.
