I think I’ve seen that his daughter is currently on their volleyball team and he had been hanging around campus a lot this year, so there is a connection there. Is he a UNC alum?
Considered an elite Xs and Os coach. Took Jokic from a fat 2nd rounder averaging 8 ppg in summer league, to arguably the best player in the world.Yikes.
I'd still take him over Mark but this has got to be disappointing
Easy there he at least won a NBA title and we have Pope who’s probably on his last year unless he winslol they thought they were getting May or Donovan and ended up with this guy. Fantastic.
Already on his Wikipedia as the UNC coach lolWow that's unexpected if true.
Some of us said this in a thread a few months ago and got crushed. The days of a blueblood plucking a top coach from another program are gone. We will all have to gamble on up and comers. No college head coaching experience at all? That would be concerning for me. He could be good I guess but I'm certainly not worried. And so much for the "blue bloods can get any proven head coach they want" crowd.
I remember you saying he was around campus a lot.Holy ****, I actually got one right. I've been saying he's a candidate in some of my previous posts.
This is awesome. Jokic was a fat 2nd round pick averaging 8 ppg in summer league when Malone got ahold of him.
I didn't see this coming.
So I’m assuming you’re not disappointed in the hire?Considered an elite Xs and Os coach. Took Jokic from a fat 2nd rounder averaging 8 ppg in summer league, to arguably the best player in the world.
Some of us got crushed for daring to say it a few months ago. Times have changed and coaches aren't motivated enough to risk success at a bluebloodWe’ll see how this works. Guy wasn’t a bad pro coach.
And we should take notes. Because if this coming year ends up being Pope’s last, we are in the same boat as UNC.
Times have changed. Established guys with a Final Four on the resume at other P4 schools aren’t leaving that low pressure gig with stability for a fish bowl in which you are expected to win titles annually or else.
I mean the guy has won an nba championship. Not like he’s some terrible coach. We’ll see how he does recruitingSome of us said this in a thread a few months ago and got crushed. The days of a blueblood plucking a top coach from another program are gone. We will all have to gamble on up and comers.
Some of us weren’t shocked because we paid attention to CBB as a whole instead of tunnel visioning our own team. Blue bloods have to be smarter than ever these days. We need to be very wise over the next 12 months. (AKA don’t get rid of a coach until you have a gentleman’s agreement with your replacement.)No college head coaching experience at all? That would be concerning for me. He could be good I guess but I'm certainly not worried. And so much for the "blue bloods can get any proven head coach they want" crowd.
HahaUNC hires a coach who won an NBA title+500 NBA games, UK hires a guy with 0 NCAAT wins. That's what a serious athletic administration gets you.
This is far from a home run hire. He was probably outside of the initial top 10 candidates. It’s a panic hire because the portal opens tomorrow and they have to have a coach by then.UNC hires a coach who won an NBA title+500 NBA games, UK hires a guy with 0 NCAAT wins. That's what a serious athletic administration gets you.
that wouldn't surprise any UK fanI wonder if Billy D finally said no and they immediately offered the job to Malone
