UConn can thank Calipari for two of those titles. Makes me sick

Even worse, there are posters on this board that claim Pope is doing fine. They think he had a really good first year.
We've sucked too long, people have forgotten what success is like. Indiana was hanging banners for beating UK in the regular season, they sucked so long. It's starting here. Guys were running around naked after we beat St Johns and Indiana back to back.

I was hoping that was us turning the corner after a rocky start. We all know how that turned out.

You know Louisville had the brains to try and hire Dusty May
.. we didnt even ask or try. Mitch Barnfart. **edit may was hired before Cal had left** ..that said we still could have looked at other options resume better than pope

Only thing now is to hope miraculously Pope becomes some great coach . Maybe he wins 26 plus games for his first time.

Wish we had a serious AD to maintain our records/place in CBB. Thank you, Mitch Barnhart. Hiring an awful coach with 0 NCAAT wins, 3 days after a HOF coach resigned.
I said we were in danger of slipping back in 2018, when we lost to Evansville. I got heckled. Then in 2020 I said we were in danger of getting Indiana territory if something wasn't done. I remember you and I talked about it and everyone said we were nuts. Nope. We're getting closer and if the right AD isn't hired, it's over.

I'd like to have that dude alone in a locked room for 15 minutes. No holds barred and no going to the cops.

Killer combo of a HOF coach sucking and mailing it in, being forced to let him suck for a few more years, because of a awful contract, and following up a crucial hire with a total dud. The worst part? There's no Roy Williams waiting in the wings. Like for UNC after Doherty.

This year was a disaster, the fact that Pope gave JQ 2M after a major injury isn’t talked about enough. The portal opens next week and he lost 2 assistant coaches and he had no one in mind. He took Mo because Nike and an agent recommended him and no word on the second coach. I hope Pope proves me wrong and has a great portal class.

We went 55-13 in 2019 and 2020 so you were definitely wrong when you said it in 2018. Covid marked the beginning of the current down turn but trying to compare it to IU's decades long failures is over the top ridiculous.

People still bring up that Duke game where we barely won early in the season as if it was a championship game. Defending a coach with a ceiling of S16 in their entire career is insane.

What if he does end up with a good class?

Goes 22-14 again with a 2nd round exit.

That get him year 4?

Last season was the high point of Pope’s coaching career and always will be.

Worst thing that could happen would be that or a S16 exit where were all going ....."Whelp...."

He did have a good first year. No rational person would say otherwise. His second year sucked
The first year he was 11-10 against SEC teams. The last 25 games his record was 14-11. Blown out by Clemson and Ohio State, lost by 29 to Alabama in the SEC tournament. A no show in the sweet 16 against Tennessee. Not a good year by UK standards.

Just like I said when that dumbass Mitch was blowing it last year. We should have offered Hurley the entire athletic dept budget if that’s what it took.

My opinion is a strong NO. If he wasn’t a former UK player on a title team he would have never be considered. Mitch panicked and hired Pope and put on a big show to deceive the fans.
