I wonder if Nike has gotten involved in the Stokes KY-Kansas recruitment ?

Shoe companies have never been a factor in college decisions. That was garbage started by schools like lville because they always lost out on recruits to schools like us who were with Nike. It’s tin foil hat type stuff. This year included.
Eh. To this day a Nike signed player has never chosen an adidas school. That’s a massive sample size.

The problem isn't people with their double reasoning in this case.

The problem is Pope! The reasoning is correct. If we are offering 2 million more than KU and he hasn't already accepted, that is the problem itself. That Pope would either miss on a guy OR need to offer 2 million more to get him.

I am not sure if you will understand. Basically, don't bash people for bashing Pope here. It is deserved and we have a huge problem regardless of what Stokes decides - he is the symptom.
Anyone can put anything out on the internet. Just use common sense and that will tell you. Who would turn down 2 million more dollars?? More importantly, who would offer that? If Kansas is offering 2million, I would offer 2million and fifty cents. No one would be stupid enough to offer 2 million over the last bid. Even dumb azz Mitch ain’t that dumb. How do people still believe what they read from anonymous sources on the internet?? Kid Rock is still building that White House home I guess.

I don't think it's really ever been about Self vs Pope or Kentucky vs Kansas.

I think he likes Self and their staff better than Pope. We've heard that all along. Self has a way better track record.

I think he likes Nike better than Adidas. He signed with them. Nike is THE brand. Nike will give him more $ to be at a Nike school. There's a lot of stuff to figure out if he goes to an Adidas school.

The narrative became "He's waiting to see if Self retires." And I think had Self retired, it makes it a lot easier to let go of Kansas. But the Self retirement talk didn't really start until after they lost in the NCAA tournament. Why didn't he commit before?

I think there's A LOT of back and forth between Stokes, Nike, and Adidas. I think Adidas would love to figure out a way to get Stokes completely out of the Nike deal. And I think so far Nike has been willing to do what it takes to prevent that.

But to the OP's question: I think Nike's been involved from the start.

One of the questions I have with regards to Stokes is, if he doesn't want to go to UK, why has he narrowed his list down to UK and KU? Surely other schools wanted him.
It’s just odd that he's turning his nose up at us, but we're in his final 2 AND he has had plenty of time to just commit to Kansas.
This is a weird recruitment.
It is but maybe it isn’t. Part of the issue is we do not know the full story and can only rely on information we are fed which may or may not be accurate. Heck to this day there is no clear answer on how much money this past years roster actually cost.

Stokes has a very smart agent representing him! Keeping UK just close enough to use as a $$$ leverage play against KU, which was always going to be the pick!

Self used the “retirement” card to get Kansas boosters and administrators to pony up the extra money to match UK’s offer once again!

Stokes and Self played the game brilliantly, if you ask me!

Yeah, I get UK is offering more money, but surely some other schools have too and why is duke not involved here? He's the #1 ranked player, usually they’re all over that.
Whole thing is weird and like you said, I don't think we're getting accurate information. It’s possible he does like UK, but maybe playing time is a concern, to which, I understand.
Hopefully Mo Williams steps in and brings this one home.

Maybe he likes the UK program but isn’t impressed by Pope as a coach ?

I just keep hearing media members say he really doesn't want to go to UK. Heck, UK is offering a lot more money and he’s still hesitating, that's not good.
We don't actually know it to be true that UK is offering more money either do we? It could be true I suppose but it is often treated as established fact and I don't believe that to be the case. For all we know Kansas could be the one making the bigger offer.

Stokes won’t come to UK because of the same reason Lindenberg or whatever his name is from Michigan didn’t come to Kentucky. Mark Pope cannot coach he cannot develop. He’s awful at getting guys the spotlight positive spotlight.. he doesn’t know how to coach elite players. He doesn’t have that history. Jasper Johnson Moreno is Probably popes to top guys .

Stokes needs to be put in a position where he can shine in order to be the top pick that means he has a strong supporting role around him. I think he’s been curious to see who Kentucky brings into the fault because from the standpoint of coaches we have jobs to fill from the standpoint of players we have roster to fill. He doesn’t even have an eye any idea who will be getting a ball to him if he comes to Kentucky. He’s been very generous to put it off put his commitment off waiting to see what gonna happen at Kentucky Kentucky when it comes to coaches and players man if I’m looking for a school and I’m looking for a reason to go there the coaches mid, but you know you can make it because it’s a big name in Kentucky.

Of course you’re gonna be a top five top 10 pick but you want to be that top pick. There is zero that Mark Pope brings to the equation therefore you gotta hope that there’s a roster he’s been very generous to see what the roster is gonna look like to see what coaches are gonna look like and I think Mark Pope has he like left town as soon as the season and that he did his last coaches show and split for a month kind of a crucial month he kinda he did this stuff last summer too. From the time the players arrived on campus to the time the season started it seemed like Pope was on vacation. He definitely wasn’t seeing much. I think that tweet was him coming back from his long vacation.

They have always said, most of what you hear in recruiting, is false.

That's a completely new take, nobody has brought up the idea that Stokes wont come to UK because Pope can't coach.
Hmm, what to do with these new accusations.

It's out there if you want to find it.
There is lot's of inaccurate made up garbage on the internet if you look for it. If you actually had anything legit it would be no problem to link it. If you are going to make such claims the burden is clearly on you to back it up. I can only assume you won't because you can't and you are content to fool whoever you can just by making things up.

Wouldn’t Nike be able to force him to wear Nike shoes if he has a contract with them? Or sue to get their money back?

When multiple credible sources cite the same thing, it is usually correct. It is what it is. I don't care if Stokes goes to UK or not. It may be better for him to go to Kansas so UK can better allocate the money to building a more complete roster.

When Eddie Sutton became UK's head coach in 1986, he was a Nike man. UK before was a Converse school, and UK player Roger Harden's father was a Converse rep who got UK to wear Cons. UK became a Nike school after Sutton came aboard, but Roger Harden still wore Converse shoes while the rest of the players wore Nikes.

No, well technically they could sue him for anything, but this would be a waste of time and money. They can’t force him to wear Nike’s in a game that requires him to wear Adidas for the school he represents.

If there are multiple credible sources on this your refusal to provide one makes no sense. We know how things often work. It just takes one to make something up and then the rest parrot that bogus source.

I’m not Hitnan, Paul, but we did both post the same info.
Some people can't handle the truth. UK is not getting Stokes anyway, so it doesn't matter, and it's not the end of the world. He would have done a Peterson and done game management on himself to preserve his draft status. Better to spread the money around and get some transfers who fit.

I remember stuff being said that Mashburn was aloof and hard to get along with. None of that came to fruition at UK. The way the young man passed the ball up the court and didn’t dribble it to death in the Mickey D game made me want him all the more. People need to stop with all this attitude stuff. If Stokes comes here we will be mighty glad of it!

It's not a matter of handling the truth when it is totally unverified. I have asked for a source or link in an attempt to verify and you guys refuse so I'll assume it is fake at this point. Do you also own a crystal ball that tells you Stokes would do the Peterson thing?
