I thought they were getting Billy Donavan
Billy might be on their list still...

I think him wanting to wait until the end of the NBA season caused issues. Plus coaching the Bulls with zero heat at all might be a nice gig?

The Vandy coach and the Iowa coach might be next.

UNC is panic mode! Haha...You LOVE to see it.

He hates his female boss (shocker) but I guess they are setting it up so he never has to speak to her again (every married guys dream)
Can’t say that I’m disappointed in UNC’s struggles. I guess I’m an NCState fan now that my son is marrying in to a family of alums. Her dad was a 2 sport guy there and was drafted by the Mets.

agreed.

anyone who hires a failed professional head coach is a dumbass.

goes double for any fan who thinks it'll work out this time.
Not going to bite on the Rhule troll . NC basketball is nothing like Thier football team. They are a Blueblood basketball program and absolutely should not have to settle for this .

Billy C coached a Super Bowl? He was certainly a choice far down the ladder for us when Pedey hired him in desperation.

My thoughts are that this ends poorly at UNC

To be fair, he's probably a much better coach than Hubert Davis. I think part of his issue with getting canned in Denver is that he's a hard azz that guys don't like. That probably won't play any better in college these days.

The iowa coached turned down an interview
Billy D used the UNC opening to get the Bulls GM canned
Lloyd got a fat raise and doesn't have to report to his annoying female AD anymore.

Amazing how far UNC has fallen now that everyone can pay players.

Feels like a bad hire. Probably #6 or 7 on UNC's list. NIL is changing the attraction for coaches to various schools. Lesser known basketball school, less pressure, wealthy alums feels like a more attractive place than some blue blood spots with massive pressure and not necessarily as deep of wallets. .

Malone has a rep for having disdain toward rookies. Now he's going to coach a bunch of 18 year olds? Good luck. Best thing going for him is his office is next to Belichicks, a worse hire. Rumor that Malone lost his locker room in Denver as well.

To be fair, Hoiberg was a failed pro coach. But he had proven he could win as a college coach in a major conference. Same with Pitino.

Malone hasn't been a college head coach, and it's been 25 years since he coached in college as an assistant. He hasn't proven he can win without Jokic (Malone was terrible at Sacramento). He will bring in talent because UNC has lots of money to spend. But still a big difference coaching 18-20 year olds, vs. elite pro players.

eh, he went .500 and made the playoffs before his cheap owner shipped off his best players for parts

not even close to the laughing stock our football coach proved to be in the big boy league

Well it isn’t the same, Billy Donavan is another example just like Hoiberg but he won titles for the Gators.

Malone is a good tactician and should do fine at the "coaching" part of the job. Big ego, though, so I can't see him enbracing recruiting, whether it's high school stars or guys shopping their services in the portal.

My brother-in-law who lives in Cary, NC went through two years ago a RIF at his job with Duke Energy. Since then, he has been teaching business classes at UNC. His son just graduated with a PhD in Astral Physics and got a job teaching at NC State. I like to describe his son as a taller, sweeter, nicer Charles Manson look-a-like who plays the guitar like a Rock God. His mother is never amused with that description of her son. (They all get to see me, the infidel, in June as I have been given an ultimatum by my wife to attend her mother's 90th birthday party.)
