That would be a tough blow. I love KSR, it's one of my main connections to the program while living out of state. I don't think he will end up being able to walk away.
If he wants to do radio the rest of his career this would be a hard opportunity to pass up. This sets him up on a national level for years to come. We need Kentucky guys in the media. I’d be all for it if he promotes Kentucky like the Duke guys promote them.

I agree with this but when you're dealing with millions of dollars, a team that has to be paid every single year now, and an outgoing AD and possibly a President soon, a change isn't going to be made this quickly. Oh, we're also paying the football coach that was fired as well. UK can't tap into unlimited funds and the programs that would gladly fire a coach for one frustratingly bad year (but still got a W in the tourney) is incredibly small. If year three is like year two, the new AD might be on board with...this board.
Agree. The university is in a bad spot, money wise. Eli even said we had to spend less or something a few weeks ago.

I went to Arizona, WVU, and Ohio Stare after undergrad. He went to Duke for Law. I can tell you with experience I could give two ***** about any of those schools beside UK. He also lives in Kentucky and does a UK radio show. I don’t even live in KY and I can tell you I’m a huge UK fan. He was even a poster just like you and me on the old board.
You did undergrad at UK like Jones did, though right? Undergrad is usually the college fandom source

You see anyone else challenging Eli or Barnhart?? He’s one of us.
The post you replied to was questioning that MJ has been a "wealth of information." That really had very little to do with challenging Eli or Barnhart.

Yes, there were times when MJ was a wealth of information but then something seemed to go dry in that area. I remember when KSR had all kinds of information on recruiting and the latest Jerry Tipton schenanigan. In recent years, so much info "from Matt Jones" just didn't pan out especially on recruiting. I quit paying attention because of that.

Matt is a closet Duke fan and won’t be missed. I’ve not heard the man speak in YEARS, on purpose and I’m more informed than 99% of our fans. I also moved out of state.

I’m not sure what info Matt produces that’s not available in 15 other places?? And the internet is the internet and the same amount of information is available no matter if you live in Lexington or Honolulu.
Matt is NOT a closet duke fan. That’s such a lazy claim. And he has been a huge asset and promoter for UK sports. JMI pushing him out and

away from the basketball program was pure stupidity. Typical dumb@ss JMI .

I stopped listening to Matt’s show a few years ago when he started using it to promote his trite political opinions. But I certainly admire what

he has accomplished and hope he gets more and more national exposure. He’s bright, talented and one of us . Congrats to him.

This is what many don’t understand. Living out of state, he’s the connection that keeps people informed.
This times one million. I podcast it daily from MO. Way more connected to the university because of it. Not to mention, their style is in my wheelhouse. I can’t imagine Matt would walk away from that. With the way people listen these days, time slots are pretty insignificant honestly.

Cal " cut him off " because he didn't like Matt telling the truth about the program
How people don’t understand this I’ll never get. It really is THAT simple. Cal was awesome. Then he got stubborn and weird. Then defensive. His teams suffered. Matt told the truth. A lot. And Cal ghosted him. Right, wrong, or indifferent that’s exactly what happened. He’s been critical of Pope as well. Pope has earned the criticism. He’s also said he’s going to get the third year and that third year will more than likely determine his fate.

That's not being consistent though. I don't think Pope is the guy either but in his first year he gathered a staff and team in a few weeks, ended up beating Duke and Louisville and going to a Sweet 16. I'm sorry but for a first year in a new era with a coach who no one considered a home run hire, that was a success. His second year clearly wasn't that but most people (and most in local media) aren't going to call for a coach to be fired in year two after lots of injuries and winning a game in the NCAA Tourney. Cal had multiple failures over multiple years and began taking shots at the fanbase he supposedly lead.

Matt has also said multiple times that Pope might not be the guy and right now it's not looking good. I feel you want him to just constantly attack the guy because of one bad year. He's had one pretty good year and one bad year with a first rd. win. No one is firing a coach with that resume. This board sometimes gets me taking up for Pope when I don't even want to lol.
This is an entirely too well thought out and responsible statement for this board. I’m honestly appalled. This stuff has no place here.

This. My son was in the Air Force stationed at Lakenheath AFB in Cambridge, England during covid. Wasn’t permitted to go anywhere outside of the base. For a 20 year old kid isolated in a foreign country, KSR was his link to home. I will always be grateful to KSR for that.

Because the signs are there, look at the recruiting, the same issues, with poor effort and slow starts, blowout losses, as in year 1. Pope has been coaching for 15 years. This is who he is. He's a 50+ year old coach, who's coached in Utah mainly. With 0 NBA or AAU connections. He's a question mark to most high schoolers. And a dork/weirdo at worst. We're just kicking the can down the road.
This is all true, and I’m the worst at sniping the dude. And he deserves every last bit of it for what you’ve just pointed out. BUT, Matt Jones and KSR can’t act and vent the way you and I can and expect to continue to own and operate a super successful business. He’s not kissing the rings, but he’s also not bit$&ing and moaning like us either.

Matt’s undergrad was at Transy. But the dude grew up a true blue UK fan from Pike Co for crying out loud. Who wouldn’t go to Duke Law given the opportunity? I think what you say about undergrad is somewhat true though. I grew up a UK fan because of WPSD showing all the games. Lived in southern IL and southeast MO. Went to college at Mizzou, but still remain a UK fan above all else. But I do support Mizzou and go to games (still live in MO). Only reason that Mizzou fandom exists is because I went to school there.

I lived out of the entire country for 8 years and never needed to listen to him to stay informed, so you're right, I don't understand. I am going to assume this is a generational thing. I don't listen to talk radio OR talk television, at all.
I guess you’re also ok with the UK president and AD doing anything they want without question?

I don’t recall anyone else going to bat and challenging them.

His insight on what happens in the locker rooms and recruiting trail wouldn’t be available. Between the inside scoops and calling UK ppl out for poor decisions is valuable.

He said “Pope is getting a year 3, and he SHOULD get a year 3”
He’s basing that off UK history. Clyde was gonna get a third if not for all the mistreatment (overblown) and the “other stuff” (not so overblown). Just for a little context, that’s where his SHOULD comes from. As much as I despise Pope, Matt is correct. Honestly, an absolute disaster of a season in year 3 probably gets the brass off their arses. I don’t think that will happen though. Probably see some version of this year again. Then I’ll be interested to see where people like Matt are. I think it will be different.

Jones sucked as a lawyer. He's a mediocre radio guy.

One thing ill never take from him is his ability to network and create opportunities for himself and friends.

He somehow convinced Mike Pratt to feed him inside info which gave him his start. From there he keeps trading up and this ESPN move, fueled by his website and Twitter following, is just the latest savvy move.

That’s EXACTLY it. That’s my main concern. Another 12-15 loss season and then we’re having this exact same conversation this time next year. Pope hasn’t earned that level of loyalty

Matt wanted to be a lawyer. Duke is a top 10 law school in the country. If you want to succeed in the field of your vocation, then you shouldn't have biases because of the basketball team.
