Mich closes on bars, Stan on floor, UNC on vault.

It is pretty rare to close on vault, any chance we take some risks and add in another Yurchenko 1.5 or similar 10.0 start value? Is that even allowable?

0.325 behind Michigan with us on vault and them on beam...unlikely but not out of the question.

Edit: Just checked the numbers, our best vault of the season is 49.325 week 1, Michigan's worst is 49.000 the week before B1Gs. So, likely too big an ask
I think they are on bars?

Prejean Yurchenko full, a little light on amplitude, fought for teh stick, small hop. but pretty clean and solid 9.800 just short of her 98.825 NQS

King Yurchenko full, short on distance but has a stuck landing 9.825

Mich bars #1 look like she was going to fall twice, but fought through both to hold one, her score will be interesting. edit: 9.700

Mich #2 nails it, will be a high score. edit 9.875

King nails a Yurchenko 1.5! She is ecstatic. 9.900! Career high score! Honestly coulda been a little higher

Mich #3 has multiple mistakes, but somehow gets a 9.800. that is definitely grade inflation as we had multiple beam routines a lot better than that.

Seabrook's has a big step out of her Yurchenko full, and may have not held her closing pose. 9.750

Utah State melting down on beam, they are probably in our rear view mirror.

Valahovic with a big hop on her Yurchenko 1.5. 9.750.

This means we must have failure from Mich at this point. They need to count a score below 9.500 for us to have a chance. Only two gymnasts left so both have to fail.

Forbes has a solid 9.850, somehow we missed it. Announcers say it was a Yurchenko full with a hop.

Michigan's score will be good enough to advance, UNC's season ends at regionals round 1.

Seabrooks with a big hop. Almost hope we don't get close enough for that to matter.

Stan 197.175
Mich 196.600
UNC 196.250
UT St 195.750

#22 UNC's NQS: 196.393
#10 Mich's NQS: 197.111

I think the scoring was a little tight at times so maybe overall theses scores are a little low for comparison to our NQS. But there was clearly opportunity here for UNC to advance. Mich made enough mistakes that on one of our better days we could have outpaced them.

With that said, the teams finished according to their ranking

There was definitely opportunity, and we certainly missed Naranjo today. That said, it may not have been a difference-maker. I actually thought we got some pretty big overscores, namely Valahovic's beam, Seabrooks' floor, and Rueda's floor. The teams finished according to their ranking, but this one was within reach and that stings. Unfortunately I don't see a solution to the balance beam problem on the horizon.

Right now our athletes mathematically still in contention for nationals are Fink on vault (she wins the tiebreak with Guggino), Valahovic on beam (she loses the tiebreak with Bauman), and Seabrooks on floor. But it's very early.

Valahovic's position is the most precarious since it depends on top-seeded regional host LSU somehow missing Nationals.

Wait I just saw the level of the wobble for Stanford that still got a 9.8? Wow.
There was definitely some minor ranking prejudice and/or some grade inflation in later rounds today. Not enough to affect the outcome, but frustrating none the less.

Our final ranking for the season is #20. Clemson is #12, Cal is #14, State #24, and Pitt #38. Stanford is TBD because they made nationals, but they're guaranteed top 8.

Final rankings are a bit arbitrary because for teams ranked 9th-36th, 50 percent of your rank is based on your team score in the meet where you were eliminated, but so it goes. Hence why Auburn (whose coach was fired today) plummeted to #25 after a bad regionals performance.

We needed this bad. Cooley was Denver's top gymnast on bars, beam, and floor this year. She also has a very nice Yurchenko full on vault but did not compete vault in the back half of the season -- not sure whether that was due to injury or just not being part of Denver's top 6.

Tracking the DP Nationals qualification status of our signees and commits (Level 10 Regionals are this weekend). There are three paths to DP Nationals: as part of a regional team, as part of an all-star team, and as an individual all-star (it's complicated).

Sophia Banky (2026) - 12th place AA, so did not make her regional team and not likely to make an all-star team. Like Savisky, was held back with a score in the 7s (bars in this case). May get in as an individual all-star on vault.

Katie Cross (2026) - in with a 2nd place AA finish (a very high 38.725) including a 9.9 on vault and, critically, a 9.725 on bars. She’ll be on the Senior E team for Region 1.

Sarah Savisky (2026) - Squeaked in with a 7th place finish in the all-around and a 9.8 on vault. She'll be on the Senior C team for Region 8. Was nearly done in by a very low beam score in the 7s.

Payton Chandler (2027) - Qualified in 5th with a 38.2 AA, will be on the Senior C team for Region 3.

Brielle Rousseau (2027) - (Edit: injured and out -- see below. Best of luck to her in her recovery!)

Brielle Rousseau (2027) - did not compete all-around at her state meet and will not be able to qualify in the all-around to Nationals unless she has a successful petition. Not clear whether she is competing at Regionals this weekend. Likeliest path at this stage is qualifying as an all-star on bars.
Rousseau just underwent surgery, appears to be lower leg:

BTW, this isn't exactly surprising given that two programs are getting cut and three P4 schools have already fired their coaches, but the transfer portal is already very active and the season isn't even over for another 10 days or so. With Cooley, we have room for four more on our roster next year so keep an eye on that.
