Yaxel is FOS. Nobody in CBB got offered 7-9 million. I am tired of hearing and reading about something as obviously untrue as his exaggeration. As far as Stokes, the writing has to be on the wall at this point. Pope hasn't gotten it done and probably won't close out this one either.

Yaxel CLAIMS he took less money. Pope denied this a week later. Yaxel has not responded.
Yaxel either a) took far less money or b) lied about it. Either way, he went to GREAT LENGTHS to demonstrate his distaste for playing for either a) Pope or b) Kentucky.
Your de facto position is that Yaxel's distaste was directed at Kentucky rather than at Pope.
That seems like an avenue for you to defend Pope at all costs.

There are just no signs at all that Mark Pope can win at UK or will win at all at any program. Much less here. All we’re doing is favors for DUKE UNC Kanas and UConn. That’s literally all we’re doing. So I just don’t care. But if you do it’s a message board, act like it matters and get into the details. I don’t police the board.

To be a college basketball coach and be successful you have to do what you have to do. It’s the dirtiest sport in the world at any level. Far dirtier than football. If Mark carries morals and principles around he should have never taken this job. You cannot win.

No, I do care about the program. That's why I care about the results. That's what made, and will continue to make the program. Mark Pope is no longer a player. He's a grown a$$ed man that took a job, knowing the expectation, he told us he knew the expectation, he wanted us to "rip him" when he wasn't meeting the expectation. You can hang on his sack all you want. I won't. He's failing to meet the expectation he said he understood.
You're going to have zero issues having that expectation met as long as Pope is in charge.

I’m on record saying I do believe JMI is an issue. I know it is. And him signing Brea was
A. Based on playing time.
B. There was no JMI deal.
C. Even Pope can pull a single recruit here and there that someone else wants. He can’t do it consistently and Brea wasn’t a highly touted recruit.
D. He was recruited on the Caliapri / NBA brand. Pope is now the face. Might not get him now, probably wouldn’t.
Mark would have a lot of trouble recruiting anyway. I mean he’s been a head coach for 12 years. He’s got no major impact recruits in his life. I don’t know how anyone could look past this. Some people just see this early and some don’t, for me this is one of the easiest things I’ve ever seen in sports. Mark has a multitude of reasons why he will not and cannot be successful here. JMI is a hold back for sure, but Calipari was getting around it. Mark cannot both sell himself with no record and get around it. There’s a no chance he wins to standard or returns UK to consistent blue blood basketball. None man.
Umm, Jeff. We are losing EVERY recruiting battle for top recruits. Comparing Pope.to Cal.or K is like comparing a nose whistler to Eddy Van Halen.

The only player that could lead a one man team and win was Larry Bird. Stokes is no Larry Free up 6 million and get 3-4 players with experience. Look at BYU, Duke, they are home. Teams with 5 stars shutdown because these players shutdown. They did it to Al, and JDdd it to pope last year. Forget Stokes

If, and it's a very doubtful if at this point, you could get Stokes, you take him. Pope could actually build around him and let him run the offense from the 4. Pope struggled coaching a team that had too few three point threats and nobody to consistently run his sets. Lowe was much better than Aberdeen at getting things set up, but even he had a tendency to hold the ball too long.
Most of the time this past season, we were burning shot clock and running a simple ball screen to try to create a step behind or a dive from the screening big. We had poor ball movement and didn't rotate the ball well on offense. That's way too easy to figure out and defend at this level.
If Pope added Stokes, the PG from SDSU, and some shooting threats, you could put something together with that as the foundation.
