Hoping this is Apr Fools but if it isnt that sucks! I knew the backcourt would be crowded but I was hoping it was another guard who was WAY less productive make the decision

Gues that means RK and Aarnisola both coming back. Alongside Harper g, guess LG said my best best bet is the portal.
Hate when players are afraid to compete fo minutes…..

Your kidding right? She's not afraid to compete for minutes...somebody obviously offered her a big payday.

Tough loss indeed. I really came to love LG over the season as she learned to take it to the hoop and make big buckets when needed. Her defense was also solid.

I’ll be somewhat surprised if she ends up at UVA only because she had a strong season this year and I would think she’d want to take the “next step up” but I’m just not sure where that is.

They could sure use her on Rocky Top and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have the money to throw at her. But not the obvious destination either.

I know that Notre Dame has a strong class coming in, but the players that saw the court this year not named HH are all graduating. So I’m pretty sure so they have a need.

Hell that being said, they could use her down the street in Raleigh. Again, can’t see that being a reason to leave either though.

Just can’t think of an obvious landing spot unless it’s somewhere like UCLA because they have a lot of seniors this year and now to back to back FFs and it’s definitely a big difference from life in VA and NC. Or maybe TCU who presumably also has needs and lots of money especially now Miles and Suarez are done.

Definitely a head scratcher.

Honestly thought this was an April Fools post. Last person I thought would leave (even with Harpring coming in)
I also thought it was an April Fools joke when I first saw it. I saw her as being one of Courtney's "preferred players" for lack of a better term. Lots of playing time for her and I thought her future was solid in the backcourt with KL and EA. (IMHO we have seen the last of RK on the court for any significant number of minutes.)

How sure are we it is going to be uva? Also how can we not out bid them with nil?
It will likely have more to do with our percieved monetary value of a player versus another teams perceived monetary value for that same player. There are roughly 10 players on the team that will be paid something. you have to manage what all of them are offered, keeping that under you own personal salary cap. So while we probably have the ability to match whatever she was offered if viewed in a vacuum, the better question is, can we pay that and meet all other team needs at the same time?

with that in mind, it is easy to understand how a team like UofSC can beat us for a player like Grant with their much larger budget. But also consider that a team like UVA could make an offer that we do not want to match if they have fewer good players they need to compensate at their market rate than we do. Meaning they place a higher priority on Grant than we can because they have less good players than we do.

Seems like there is probably more to it than just money with a kid like Grant. Not going to speculate beyond that but this is a pretty big blow. Banghart has done a great job of pivoting and I feel pretty confident she will do that in this scenario as well. Hopefully we learn from this and make sure we keep kids like Grant in CH going forward (I’m sure there are things we could have done differently beyond just more dollars). Our back court is in good hands but we lost a key piece…an excellent player who brought so much to this program; worked hard and kept getting better.

Need to retain our other key pieces and continue to develop all of them. Greatest need is still an athletic and physical big. With Lanie gone, there should be more incentive for Brooks, Henderson, Harping, and Hull to work on their games and step into the spotlight next season. Picking up another athletic combo guard who can shoot wouldn’t hurt, but we’ve got several with tons of potential.

Best of luck to Lanie. We still got this. Go Heels!

I am truly stunned by this development. Lanie has been such a staunch Tar Heel, committing so early and training so hard to get to CH, this is just hard to imagine. Money talks, though and it will be interesting to see where she finds herself next season. We will miss her, she was just coming into her own, IMO.

The portal takes, but it also gives, so it will be necessary for CB to find a critical piece of the team when it opens. Good luck to Lanie, just not against the Heels.

This all goes back to my theory of having less depth to not have to divide the $$ up as much so as to be more competitive with NIL. Pay 7 players basically all of the NIL $$.

That said I am not convinced LG does not envision herself as having Caitlin Clark type scoring potential and
wants to be in a system that allows her to shoot those logo shots crossing halfcourt. I would think that is a
no go for CB.

I still think Lanie could be headed to UVA. Anyplace could be in play depending on if she wants more offensive freedom.

I am not sure that Elina is not a more valuable player to our team with the way she played late in the year.
Reniya Kelly ditto if she can return to her sophomore 2nd team All ACC status.

I still like where this team currently sits hoping we get a really good 5. I wish LG good luck except if she plays against us.

There was nothing about playing time or freedom to shoot that ball that I saw. Maybe Banghart does a good job not showing her frustration with player decisions during games, but it felt like she drew up plays to get Lanie shots and liked her decision making/ball handling. I did not get a chance to watch the Uconn game so folks can tell me if there was a different reaction to Lanie's game from Banghart.

So if it isn't about playing time and freedom to shoot, the only other things I could think of are:
  1. General dislike for the coaching staff (doubtful)
  2. Desire to be the PG and not the SG (maybe but she committed knowing there were two PGs in front of her)
  3. Joining a top 5 team (players like to win)
  4. Money (the most likely reason)
If it is #3 then definitely disappointing because it means she doesn't think she can help elevate this team to be a top team. #4 just sucks and makes college basketball not as fun.

Wow, I did not see this coming. In her speeches and comments made during the ACCT, she said all the right things about CB, really loving UNC, etc. Looks are surprising. I guess all of that was a bunch of baloney since the article stated she almost left last year. There is a saying, action are louder than words. LG for two years said one thing out of her month, but today her actions is showing how she really feels. The article also stated this fact, She was at the top of opposing teams’ scouting reports for the second half of the season, many times getting face-guarded, making it difficult for her to get off her shot. With that comment only, this is what kingz213 had been saying which some of yall thought he was being to critical. I would not be surprised if she ended up at UVA. If she goes to an elite team like SC she will be coming off of the bench with less playing time, the same could happen if she were to go to ND since the have 3 McDonalds AA coming in and they look really good the other night. I will admit that I hate to see her go, and that I do not think other coaches will be as loyal as CB was to her. I wish her the best and I think we still need to go after Zam Jones even more now. Go Heels!

Thanks at least u get what im saying. If shes goes any top teams shes definitely a bench player and look at as more a 3 point specialist. I see here going to a solid team where she can start. To me shes better off being point guard then 2 guard. With Harping coming in somebody had to go. Now go get a bigger wing player that's been a proven scorer in college.

I have to remind myself all the time this is the new normal. But I hate it and I absolutely hate UNC won't have a 3rd or 4th year Grant.
Yup people think im being hard on Lanie my energy is more directed to people who overrate her and Coach Banghardt who brought here in early for no reason. She was talented but not ready at 17 she played a full season at 17 which is silly when others reclassifiy im highschool and come into college 18-19 years old. So from an age and experience scenario u won't get the best Lanie until shes a SR.

Riverheel, although I appreciate you, my point is this, everyone on this board is entitled to their opinion whether you agree with them or not. I thought we were all adults here on this board and that we would let posters post what they want to say without any backlash. I fully understand that there are going to be times when people are going to disagree. If you notice, when I am wrong, I am man enough to own it and say that I am wrong; therefore, I will leave at that and move forward.
