Mine was Hall in 1975. Had just started college
Me too. I was alive but too young to remember Rupp being replaced and all of that. Not really sure what year I started actually caring but it was bred into me. So, as soon as I could! My first visit to Rupp was the UKIT after we won a national championship. I think it was Texas A&M that beat us on our court, in our tournament and when they were horrid. Broke my heart but I did meet some legends that night! I remember thinking they were all giants, even Macy, but not huge. I was probably 4'6" or somethin! Lol!!

When I was a kid in Lexington, just starting to play basketball at the local YMCA (shout out Coach Rick,) Sutton had just gotten fired and UK basketball was in a very dark place. Which is basically how I ended up a Tar Heel fan before we ever moved to North Carolina.

Joe B Hall about 1975.

My mom would listen to the games on a small transistor radio on the kitchen table…Cawood Ledford. I was only 5 but because my mom was so intensely involved in every game I knew it was something very important.

I never stood a chance and I love Kentucky Basketball like it’s a living relative.

Adolph freaking Rupp.

And the first 2 games I saw were both losses . Issels last game against Jacksonville and Gilmore, then the following year when we lost to Western Kentucky and Jim McDaniels.
Had moved to the state when my Dad transferred for an IBM job. First game in person was first game in Rupp. Had to have the brown BarcaLounger at center court explained to me lol

Listened a lot to Cawood - loved that voice - fell in love with the Cats and still catch most games

Since I was cognizant enough to now what UK basketball was. So around 89. So Pitino. Some of those early days with Pitino were ROUGH. I vaguely remember the KU blowout but obviously not in great detail. But I can remember a lot of games after that, especially the 92 Laettner shot. Mom cried. I cried. Dad was livid and I even think he got misty eyed. I can remember yelling, "That's not fair! They can't let him do that!" It was the first time I'd really seen a deep pass like that so kid me didn't fully understand it was perfectly legal. I love UK, loved those players, like Rick- so that was my first real gut punch loss. Sucked. Still sucks. I'll never forget the time Laettner started down in Atlanta in 96 and got freaking BOOED when they announced him. He was confused and then remembered where he was- lol. Loooots of UK fans in Catlanta.

I do remember Dad getting upset during the Sutton years, but I was too little to really know what was going on.

Joe B. In 1975. I don’t know how many radios I went through with Cawood’s call.
I feel truly blessed to have heard him many a game even though it wasn't very many. I still blame Laettner for him hanging it up- lol.

One of my school principal's had his last name an we'd always mess with her by asking if she was related. God, those were great days.

Miss him.

Born under Hall. Remember Sutton but not well or fondly.

Became a diehard under Pitino. The 93 team captivated me as a sixth-grader. I loved that squad so much. I pretended to be all of them in my driveway. My Monster Mash poster hung in my bedroom long after I’d left home for college.

True fan, Pitino 1990 season, 10 y/o.

I was mildly familair with Cats right around probation...but didn't know what was going on when all that went down. I really started following them on tape delay during probation; would wakeup in middle of night and play game.
