Rutgers with a dominant 15-8 win over USC.

Caroline Ling (5 goals, 2 assists), Kate Theofield (4 goals), and Lily Dixon (4 assists) led Rutgers on the offensive end, and we finally got a good performance in the cage, as sophomore Stella Quilty had 12 saves (including several superb ones) and a 60% save percentage.

Rutgers is now 7-4 overall and 2-1 in league. The two-game West Coast swing continues on Monday as the Scarlet Knights travel to San Diego State.

Quilty was on. Kudos to her & the whole team.

B1G is an absolute bear of a conference in women's lax. USC is far from a pushover and they're 0-5 in the B1G. Maryland, Michigan, NW, and Hopkins are elite, OSU, PSU and RU look like NCAA Tourney teams.

BOOM!!!

7-5 (2-1) with an insane schedule moving forward. Absolutely have to beat San Diego State and Oregon PLUS ONE OF THE FOUR AGAINST Maryland/Michigan/Northwestern/Penn State.

RU is 7-4 actually but yes, sweep SDSU/Oregon and 1 win over Michigan/NW/Maryland/PSU all but locks up an NCAA Tourney spot.

Playing like dog crap, now down 8-7 midway through 3rd quarter. Watched the first half on the SDSU YouTube channel, and we played very sloppy and keep committing penalties.

Unfortunately the YouTube feed seems to be down right now, so just watching Live Stats.

14-8 final. SDSU made the team earn it to say the least but ending on a 7-0 run is impressive. Some big opportunities coming up, lets see if the team can score a signature win vs one of Maryland/Michigan/NW/PSU. Team is in with an RPI of 13 before tonight but need to beat Oregon and at least 1 win over the 4 giants in the B1G would all but ensure a spot in May Madness.

The ladies are 8-4 (2-1) on the year, but they have a sick schedule to close out the regular season:

@ #1 Maryland this Saturday 4/4
#3 Michigan on Thursday 4/9
Oregon on Sunday 4/12
@ #6 Northwestern on Wednesday 4/15
#21 Penn State on Saturday 4/18

Right now, their SOS is #11, but after running this gauntlet, it will probably be top 5. So the strength of schedule metric will be in their favor.

To make the NCAA Tournament, they will need to beat Oregon and probably need to win ONE of these ranked games, although with the SOS, I would give them an outside shot of getting an at-large even if they lose all four, with a 9-8 (3-5) record, plus there’s still the BTT.

If they beat Oregon and win one of the other 4, they're a 100% lock. If they only beat Oregon they likely still get in because the SOS is stupid but theyd be on the bubble and sweating it out. Only thing they cant do is lose out.

So, after completing a 2-0 west coast swing to USC and SDSU, Rutgers' RPI DROPPED from 13 to 16 today.

Beating USC (#31) on the road was probably a neutral factor, but playing and beating a really bad team on the road (SDSU, which is 85th) hurt our ranking.

Wild.

Hopefully, if we lose to #1 Maryland, #2 Michigan, and/or #5 Northwestern, it will actually HELP our RPI.

Wish I knew. Katie Buck is so important for multiple reasons. First and foremost, she’s one of the best draw control players in the country, but in addition this year, she’s playing defense and causing lots of TOs.

The good news is that after she went down with what looked to be an ankle injury on Monday, several other girls took draws, and we still did pretty well there. Granted, the competition wasn’t as good as we’ll face against B1G teams, but at least there’s proof of concept.
