It was entertaining.65 kg - McKenna tech Mathis Lelong 11-0
Lelong doesn't have any notable results that I could find
74 kg - Amine dec Abdoullah Nakaev 8-0
Nakaev was 5th at U20s this year at 70kg
79 kg - Seyfulla Itaev dec Hamiti 3-2
Itaev has been to a few age group Worlds but hasn't performed well. Was 0-1 at this year's U23s at 74kg
86 kg - Valencia vin Rakhim Magamadov (5-0)
Magamadov was 5th at Senior Worlds and U23s this year. Previously a 2x U20 champ. Not sure how far into the match the injury happened
97 kg - Plott fall Adlan Viskhanov (4-1)
Vishkanov was 0-1 at this year's Senior Worlds and U23s. Previously won U20 bronze
125 kg - Hendrickson tech Levan Lagvilava 16-6
Lagvilava was 5th at U20s this year
It was entertaining.
McKenna is stout and Wrestles with a high IQ.
Cam (who is great with kids by the way) was super active. Probably my favorite match.
DJ had two TDs slip through his hands and wasn’t mat aware on the deciding point. However, the French guy should’ve been put on the clock as he ran for 44 seconds.
Zahid, well, he’s Zahid. The guy he went against was injured prior to the match and Zahid isn’t somebody you Wrestle unless you are 250%.
I love Plott!
Wyatt still looks a tad green and had himself in some risky positions that weren’t necessary. He will be fine, but Paris will make him pay for mistakes. He is entertaining though.
*sidenote*. These guys are great reps for OSU and really work as hard at the kids as the do their own craft…super refreshing to see!
Honestly, I couldn’t even imagine better hires than Dake or Yianni. We would be getting into unfair category, with such a talented staff…I think it is important to keep the ball rolling and make a big RTC splash. If we got Dake and Yianni I think that would be an absolute home run. I think if we got 1 of the 2 it would be a great start.
It looks like Brooks and Snyder are going to be competing in the next quad for the 97kg spot, I doubt both will still train at the NLWC for much longer, I could see Snyder leaving and if he didn't go back to the revamped Buckeye RTC, he would be a great "name" to have even though he may be starting to hit the down slope of an amazing career (personally I would love to see Snyder take these next 4 years to gain weight and transition to 125kg for the next cycle (cowboy bulk job anyone?).
I think Valencia, Brooks, Snyder at 86, 97 and 125 would be pretty damn solid for Team USA
US Open when he got injuredWhen was Fix's last competition?
And Keck just won and beat the guy who teched Zahid. My guess is he looked really because he was training with DT a bunch and now it's in the season and DT probably doesn't roll with him much he's busy with the teamWhats up with Zahid? First a loss to Keck on RAF, now got Tech at ranking series.
Did he get teched with a leg lace or gut wrench? Freestyle is so silly in some ways lolWhats up with Zahid? First a loss to Keck on RAF, now got Tech at ranking series.
I’d say it’s Z being Z. Him being fully locked in and kicking *** last year was the outlier. He’s a supreme talent so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him peak come time for final X / WC but he’s just being Z imo.Whats up with Zahid? First a loss to Keck on RAF, now got Tech at ranking series.
Came back and got bronze thoughI’d say it’s Z being Z. Him being fully locked in and kicking *** last year was the outlier. He’s a supreme talent so it wouldn’t surprise me to see him peak come time for final X / WC but he’s just being Z imo.
For sure. Just way different from the sheer domination at worlds last yearCame back and got bronze though
Trap arm gut is what finished it, but it started with a couple step outs and a shot clock point before the only takedown (iirc). So yes there were turns but no it wasn't a fluke. He hasn't looked like his spring-fall 2025 self. He did pancake and pin a solid wrestler in the bronze match though.Did he get teched with a leg lace or gut wrench? Freestyle is so silly in some ways lol
Wyatt and DJ made the finals. Plott will wrestle for bronze as will Amani Jones.
DJ beat Wick again, but narrowly. He made a couple of tactical errors that cost him. It seemed he tried to nurse a lead and then got taken down and put in a nearfall position where Wick was nearly able to run the clock out. Luckily he got out of it with enough time to go get another takedown, which he did.
Wyatt has looked much more under control, which is a great sign. There were some positions where you'd normally see him send it but he held back. Less risk and just as powerful as ever is a good combo for Wyatt. He teched one of last year's world bronze medalists in the semis and he'll face the other world bronze in the finals.
Plott looked good today but lost in the semis and will wrestle for bronze. He beat Mike Macchiavello, who beat him twice this summer. He'll face Macch again for bronze.
Amani lost her only match 2-1, but got pulled into the bronze match. I didn't get to see it so I don't have any details.
That guy was freaking built. Made Wyatt look small lol.Dang, Wyatt got stuck
Dake is definitely no longer getting younger, like he once claimed. It is very difficult for some top tier athletes to hang up their shoes before it is too late. That precipice is approaching fast for KD. He should transition into a coaching before his stock falls too far, to the cowboy RTC.The rumors of Dake as the RTC coach are still around and obviously would be a big hire but that’s only part of the equation.
Then we have to be able to land top end senior level athletes who are among the best at their weight. As long as funding is there we should be able to do so. Will be interesting (and critical) to watch it develop over the next year.
Both Raney’s I assume continue Greco. Facundo and Ryder (when healthy). Unsure on Vega and Robideau goals for freestyle. McComas and Hughes both hit up FS last year I think. Teague too. I would like to see Troy too but feel like he hasn’t done a lot of FS the last few years.Who on the college team will be competing for RTC? Jax of course-who else?
I wouldn’t expect Troy, Sergio or Ryder. Both Raney’s I assume continue Greco. Facundo and Ryder (when healthy). Unsure on Vega and Robideau goals for freestyle. Honestly idk why but Troy strikes me as an MMA guy post collegeI wouldn’t expect Troy, Sergio or Ryder.
Ya I added Ryder only in the sense he would if able.I wouldn’t expect Troy, Sergio or Ryder.
I’m betting Ryder isn’t released for a bit.Ya I added Ryder only in the sense he would if able.
What about Cody? Would like to see him do some FS to build on his offense I think it would help.
beat Parker Keckeisen last night, but I get your pointDake is definitely no longer getting younger, like he once claimed. He had wins over both Jax and Bo Bassett in freestyle a couple years ago, so hopefully he picks it back up after next year. Plus out RTC needs a true 57kg guyTroy, he works his butt off year round, but his focus appears to be folkstyle until that’s not an option.
I’ve actually not asked in awhile, so I don’t know for sure.He had wins over both Jax and Bo Bassett in freestyle a couple years ago, so hopefully he picks it back up after next year. Plus out RTC needs a true 57kg guy
