Notre Dame Game Notes
Nugent's Nuggets:
That was a treat of a baseball game, it would've been amazing under the Friday night lights but don't need anyone freezing a finger off in South Bend. Jason DeCaro and Jack Radel absolutely delivered in a promised battle of two of the best ace's in the ACC. I'll write something up fully after game 2 but here are some quick thoughts...
One of the best Jason DeCaro performances, road DeCaro always dleivers and in the cold he did just that. He gave up to homers but great pitchers give up solo shots. the no walks is most impressive to men he really has worked to iron out his delivery from last week's 6 walks. Radel also delivered with 10 strikeouts but UNC always rises to the occasion and the lineup did just that chasing him out in the 6th. Kyson Witherspoon, Jamie Arnold, Trey Yesavage...add Jack Radel to the list of aces UNC have touched.
The balanced offense showed up, it was not just the long ball but timely hitting the 8th and taking advantage of wild pitches all propelled UNC to the narrow one run victory. The game reminded me of the last Louisville game, this team is beginning to show they can be down but not always out as another late big inning helped put UNC on top.
Other notes:
- Loved the aggressive base running
- HUGE game for Cooper 3-for-4 with a homer
- Also from Tyler Howe 2-for-4 with two RBIs, 2 runs and a homer
- The vulture is back, as Matty grabbed the win
- Caden looked great and earned his second save
