I really don’t understand the logic around being against this.

You can’t legally drive without a license.
You can’t board a plane without identification.
To buy alcohol, you need an id and be 21 and over
You need proper identification to work in the US.
You need id to open a bank account.
You need id to buy a firearm
And there are many other things

But, for some reason we can’t align with the fact that you should have an ID to vote? wtf is wrong with you people?

Your brains are complete crap.

No your understanding of the issue is crap. Democrats agree with voter ID but do not agree with the SAVE ACT which is a voter suppression bill.

  • Requires anyone who moves or has a last name different from their birth certificate(including hyphenated last names) to re-register in person before they can get a new ID
  • This will affect 80,000,000+ people and many of these won't have a passport or birth certificate and will have to pay for one or the other first - a poll tax
  • It will eliminate mail-in voting except under very narrow circumstances.
  • It will penalize election workers who accidentally accept a non-approved document with up to five years in prison
  • Rushing to update the systems and get everyone re-registered in time for the mid-terms ensures it won't be ready to roll nationwide and will substantially cut down on voter participation.
And for what? To cut down on the "possibility" that a handful of non-citizens might "attempt" to cast a vote. Just call it what it is - an attempt to drive the numbers down to help Trump with the evisceration he knows is coming, because he's a whiny, paranoid, corrupt POS.

This is not an urgent priority.

So many excuses.

I know when mid terms are. I know when all other important voting moments are. If I want to vote, then I need to get my affairs in order.

Not different than if I want to fly out of the country, then I better allow for time for a passport.

It’s honestly not that different.

Are you saying a good % of democrats are so dumb that they can’t do this and that’s why there’s a fear for this bill? Why does someone taking the time to ensure they get their identification in order affect democrats more than republicans………………

Give me a break, you don't speak for all 80 MIL people and this will hurt rural maga voters too. In Alaska, many people are 8 hours away from their election office and/or voting precinct. Many people travel full-time or will move and there will be a large section of our electorate who won't be aware of it at all. Others won't be able to afford the new documents. There are a million reasons why everyone won't be re-registered in time and you know it. Just admit that you don't care because you're cool with reducing the headcount because you know it will help Donnie's cause.

If it really is that important, it can't be rushed like this and we should aim for it to be ready by 2028.

Reminder, there is a miniscule amount of voter fraud and it's almost always caught so fraud isn't and never has been a big issue until Sweet Potato Hitler came along. This is not urgent.

How the f do I know how many republicans or democrats are impacted by this? If it hurts more republicans then so be it. It doesn’t change my opinion that everyone should show a valid ID to vote.

My wife was born on 3/18. She. just realized yesterday that her drivers license is expired. She is at the DMV right now renewing it. Guess what, she had to take. Below are the requirements directly from the GA DMV for a REAL ID:

  • 1 proof of identity (e.g., certified U.S. birth certificate, valid U.S. passport, Certificate of Naturalization).
  • Proof of Social Security number (full SSN provided on the form; bring card, W-2, or pay stub if verification fails).
  • 2 proofs of Georgia residency (e.g., utility bill, bank statement, or lease — dated within last 6 months, showing your name and Cumming/Forsyth address).
The above is needed to get a Valid (RealID) drivers license for any of the following:
  1. Moving from another state
  2. Name change due to marriage
  3. Renewing expired drivers license (what my wife is doing)
This sounds very similar to SAVE requirements, so nothing new.

How many people allow their licenses to expire before renewing? I doubt there are many but this still doesn't solve the requirement if the SAVE ACT passes. Does her last name on her license match her birth certificate? If not, she'll have to re-register in person with her marriage certificate before she's eligible to vote per the current guidelines. But who knows what's true because it's not clearly explained and it keeps changing.

What the bill requires: The SAVE Act would require all American citizens registering to vote or updating their registration information to present documentary proof of citizenship in person. For the vast majority of Americans, this would be a passport or birth certificate. Center for American Progress

The name-mismatch problem: Among citizens who do have a birth certificate, approximately 20% of the population will have a difficult time using their birth certificates under the SAVE Act, as their certificate will not match their current last name. Approximately 84% of married women change their last name, meaning roughly 69 million women and 4 million men do not have a birth certificate that matches their name. Rock the Vote

What the bill says about this: The bill does not include any exceptions for eligible voters whose current names differ from those on their identification documents. Instead, it mandates that those people must submit additional documents — such as marriage documents, divorce decrees, or court orders approving a name change — in order Democracy Docket to complete registration.

The supporters' argument: Republicans who support the bill assert that states will be able to create processes so people can prove their citizenship if their name doesn't match their birth certificate. "The Democrats have been fearmongering about this bill," said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. NPR

The critics' counterargument: Legal experts told NPR that states can ease this potential hurdle by accepting secondary documents like a legal decree of a name change or a marriage certificate, but it might not fix the issue for all married people. Tracy Thomas, a professor of constitutional law at the University of Akron, noted that "obtaining that marriage certificate is an additional cost, administrative burden and extra penalty that other voters do not have to do." NPR

Current status: The bill has passed the House but is still being debated in the Senate, so it has not yet become law.

Bottom line: Women with name mismatches would not be flatly barred from registering, but they would be forced to take new time-consuming and restrictive steps to register. Democracy Docket Whether those extra steps constitute an undue burden is the core of the ongoing political and legal dispute. The bill also leaves significant discretion to states, meaning requirements could vary widely depending on where someone lives.

dpic, I know your heart is in the right place, and I applaud you're standing up for what you believe.

But the Real ID requirements are standard (I believe). So if you want to fly or get into/onto a federal facility you need one.

Anyone can find a multitude of reasons why it's so hard to get registered or re registered to vote, but in comparison to some of the other things in life it's not that difficult. I'd venture for a lot of people it's more difficult to assemble all the documents to pay federal and state taxes - and we do that every year.

Ned, a REAL ID is not good enough if you've moved or if your last name doesn't match your birth certificate, I don't know how many times I have to repeat this. All 80+ million people will not have gotten this new burden accomplished in time for the mid-terms and you know it. This hasn't been a requirement for 250 years now and our voting is secure, so this bill is unnecessary and far from urgent.

ok I get it. I'm not pushing either for or against SAVE act. If it passes, it would impact me as I will be in another state on election day so I'll need and absentee ballot. I'll deal with it.

If it doesn't pass, it won't upset me

I believe there is fraud in our elections, but I don't think the number of bad votes has impacted any election results (that I know of)

From my perspective the number of extremely uninformed American voters is a greater threat

Please provide proof that illegal immigrants are voting and affecting the outcome of elections. It’s an intimidation tactic for minority voters with a thin veneer. Trump’s approval rating with minorities has plummeted - do you really think he’d implement this tactic if he was +20% with Latino voters?
Proof straight from the horses mouth

So less than 2 dozen across the country over a decade?

And this “problem” is worth disenfranchising millions of voters? This is worth making voting less accessible for American citizens?

give me a break. Just more meaningless virtue signaling from the right. Republicans don’t govern for the country, they govern out of spite. A party fueled by uninformed hate

That’s a little more than 2 dozen

LOL... Any convictions in all that? TWO guilty pleas? Where are the prosecutions. Did you actaully count the number of illegals voting in those "examples". I particularly like the last example.

  • Michigan: April 2025 review of millions of records found 15 credible cases of apparent non-citizens voting in the 2024 election (0.00028% of ballots); 13 referred for potential prosecution.
So let me get this staight... You are complaining about a .00028% problem. For the mathmatically challenged, that means 99.99972 are NOT illegal immigrants.

I bet if you checked other things, like people voting for their dead parents, fellons voting, hell even old fashioned ballot box stuffing, you'd get MUCH higher number.

EDIT: Because I can't believe I didn't flag this one:

19 foreign nationals in North Carolina (2016 elections): Indicted in 2018 (with updates noted in 2025 reports) for falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register and vote in the 2016 elections. One U.S. citizen was also charged with aiding an alien. This stemmed from an ICE Homeland Security

So again, let's get this straight. 19 folks were indicted in 2018. And yet SOMEHOW... eight years later, there hasn't even been a trial, much less a conviction. And this is an EXAMPLE of how illegals are voting? Come on man!

Watching the now most popular political news channel on cable

Seems New Jersey found some flaws in their voter registration

Over 6000 illegal aliens were registered to vote

Let me also say I totally disagree with ANY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT receiving a legal US state drivers license

When I travel overseas I would get some temp non citizen license

Numbers still small at 6000 but where’s there’s one roach there’s millions more

Oops now New Jersey is NOT SURE OF THE ACTUAL NUMBER OF REGISTERED ILLEGAL VOTERS BUT IT STARTS AT 6000

Also Act Blue accepted 48 million dollars in foreign political contributions which is illegal

And all Act Blue employees taking the 5th

That is to prevent criminal self incrimination

If there no problem why take the 5th

They have caught them voting already you tool. Here are just a few examples...

  • Mahady Sacko (Mauritanian national, illegal immigrant in Philadelphia): Arrested in March 2026 by ICE and the FBI. Prosecutors allege he falsely claimed U.S. citizenship, registered to vote, and illegally cast ballots in every federal election since 2008 (including 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 presidential elections, plus some primaries). He had a deportation order since around 2000 but remained in the U.S. under supervision.
  • Two Pakistani nationals in New Jersey (Muhammad Muzammal and Muhammad Shakeel): Indicted in January 2026 for illegally voting in the November 2020 federal election (which included the presidential race) and making false statements on citizenship applications. Both registered to vote while non-citizens, falsely claiming U.S. citizenship, and then cast ballots. USCIS assisted in the investigation.
  • Cecilia Casellanos (Cuban national in Arkansas): Pleaded guilty in January 2026 to perjury and voter fraud for illegally voting as a non-citizen.
  • Denis Bouchard (Canadian national in North Carolina): Pleaded guilty in March 2026 to falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to vote in the 2022 and 2024 elections; faces up to 10 years in prison.
  • Jose “Joe” Ceballos-Armendariz (Mexican national in Kansas): DHS released records in November 2025 showing he illegally voted multiple times in Kansas elections. Kansas AG is prosecuting him on counts of voting without being qualified and election perjury.

Multi-Defendant Indictments

  • 19 foreign nationals in North Carolina (2016 elections): Indicted in 2018 (with updates noted in 2025 reports) for falsely claiming U.S. citizenship to register and vote in the 2016 elections. One U.S. citizen was also charged with aiding an alien. This stemmed from an ICE Homeland Security Investigations task force. Maximum penalties included up to 6 years in prison and $350,000 fines.
  • Lina Maria Orovio-Hernandez (Colombian national in Massachusetts): Convicted on federal charges including identity theft, passport fraud, and illegal voting in the 2024 presidential election. An “I Voted” sticker reportedly helped link her to the case.

State-Level Discoveries and Audits

  • Texas: In October 2025, Secretary of State Jane Nelson announced a cross-check with federal SAVE database flagged over 2,700 potential non-citizens on voter rolls out of 18 million. Further reviews identified 33 potential non-citizens who voted in the 2024 election; cases referred to AG Ken Paxton for investigation.
  • Ohio: Multiple probes (e.g., 2025) flagged over 1,000 apparent non-citizen registrations, with some having voted since 2018; cases referred to DOJ. Earlier audits found smaller numbers.
  • Arkansas: In October 2025, AG Tim Griffin announced arrests of three non-citizens for illegally voting, including in the 2024 general election. One had prior felonies.
  • Michigan: April 2025 review of millions of records found 15 credible cases of apparent non-citizens voting in the 2024 election (0.00028% of ballots); 13 referred for potential prosecution.
Trump got you hook, line, and sinker. There are a handful out of billions of votes. Look at this!!! But don’t look at the names in the Epstein Files. Don’t look at rising costs. Don’t look at jobs not being filled. Don’t look at more US service members being killed because of a BS war. They are duping you. Don’t be a dupe.

Even the uber-conservative Heritage Foundation, the architects of Project 2025, after studying billions of votes over decades came up with a miniscule number of attempted votes cast by illegal immigrants. There is no reason for ICE to be at the polls for a problem that doesn't exist except in the schizoid brain of our mad king.

In reviewing decades of cases and billions of votes
cast, the Heritage Foundation has identified
just 10 cases involving in-person impersonation
fraud at the polls (fewer than the number of
members on the President’s Commission).
Heritage thus confirms what extensive prior
research has shown — it is more likely that
an individual will be struck by lightning than
impersonate another voter at the polls.

• The database includes only 41 cases involving
non-citizens registering, voting, or attempting
to vote. This is particularly striking given the
claims made by President Trump in setting up
the Commission that millions of illegal votes
were cast in 2016; on other occasions, he said
3 to 5 million unauthorized immigrants robbed
him of the popular vote majority. The fact that
only 41 such cases were identified over a time
span of more than four decades highlights the
absurdity of claims that millions of non-citizens
voted in the 2016 election alone.

The 51 cases referenced in the two previous bullets are the only examples in the database that would be addressed by the reforms most often trumpeted by the Heritage Foundation — laws requiring documentary proof of citizenship or government-issued identification to vote. It underscores that the potential harm from such proposals greatly outweighs any potential benefit.

https://www.brennancenter.org/sites/default/files/2019-07/Report_HeritageAnalysis_Final.pdf
Again, Trump is conning his base. Not one MAGA on this board will accept this data as fact, take a breath, and admit they were wrong. They aren’t capable of it.

here's the thing I bet we could all agree on, there have been instances where undocumented people have voted: but the number of illegals votes would not have changed the outcome of the election they voted in.

agreed??
Yeah, about 15 more illegals have voted in the last 10 years than 6 year olds have. Again, in the last 40 years of federal elections, with billions of votes cast, there have been 1500 documented cases of voter fraud. We have always had secure elections, until the big baby got beat, and lied to the same people he talked about when he said he could shoot someone on 5th Ave. and they would still support him. In that moment he told his base how stupid they were yet he remains their one beacon of truth over all else.

It’s sad and pathetic.

Again, never ever an issue until Trump lost. Google why some Americans don’t have ID. This isn’t difficult. Trump purposely made it difficult.

SAVE ACT
Not to mention this is a poll tax which violates The Constitution.

ok I get it.

There is the most minuscule amount of fraud in elections and it doesn’t affect outcomes. This is all a bunch of crap to distract from all the criming and grifting orange turd is doing. Not to mention away from the Epstein Files that Republicans used to want to see.

Numbers still small at 6000 but where’s there’s one roach there’s millions more
So you watch the channel that settled for 787 million dollars because they lied about the 2020 election. You watch the channel that has lawyers admit in court that they lie to their viewers and should be considered entertainment.

This is why we are where we are as a nation.

Yes to watching Fox but just because they settled does not mean that the election was not rigged as proving something is a lot harder than making allegations that have lots of smoke

Fox News attorneys have explicitly stated in court that no reasonable person would believe what their news programs report as fact.

Since you believe what they report despite their own attorneys telling you not to, the only conclusion is that you are not a reasonable person.

No. You’re thinking this is an ACTUAL issue…because you got duped. Trump is lying to you. Fox News is lying to you. Their lawyers have said under oath that they lie to you. Don’t be ignorant your whole life.
Attempting to move the goalpost wont help you. So you go from its nevers happens to its not an actual issue after i provide examples where it did happen. But Im the one being lied to? Maybe look in the mirror and your sources at CNN and MSNBC, maybe stop watching the View considering all the retractions and corrections on all the lies they have told......
