The schools with the deepest financial pockets and a great head coach are the new blue bloods. That's what was so frustrating with this years roaster. 22 Million dollars should buy you a contender but the money was horribly mismanaged.![]()
Unfortunately, he's right. This is a new era and the college basketball landscape will no longer be dominated by the same handful of programs that have traditionally dominated. That isn't to say that the traditional blue bloods can't have good seasons or win championships. But they aren't going to be in a position to do it year after year.
I am going to argue against you on this one. A one time title might just be a one time title. Maybe IU caught lightning in a bottle? Curious how you might answer that?I think the fact that IU won the title in football proves the point.
But @RunninRichie reliably told me if you just flash your historic name coaches blindly take the job no questions asked
If we get rid of Pope and our NEW AD hires a great coach we will be more competitive but that certainly does NOT guarantee a title. Each year with NIL there will be a ton of teams that can beat anyone on any given night. Talent will NEVER be concentrated on a few select team ever again. With NIL you can't keep kids long enough to develop a winning team. Diffent times are here.Blue bloods gotta keep up their programs or they won’t be one no more. Like Indiana. Kentucky with Pope either gonna get back on top or he gotta go
If Pope doesn’t get it done next season uk won’t keep him. To much money at stakeIf we get rid of Pope and our NEW AD hires a great coach we will be more competitive but that certainly does NOT guarantee a title. Blue bloods will still be the most attractive but the money has to be there. It isn’t rocket science. It’s just like any other job. Great NBA players prefer the Lakers to the Timberwolves, but if the Timberwolves pay more then it becomes an issue. This is how it is in college now. Great coach great brand blue blood status with the money = top recruits. If you can make the same and play for the name that’s where you’re taking your game.
People make too much out of this.
The fact that NIL has leveled the playing field is what I'm referring to.I am going to argue against you on this one. A one time title might just be a one time title. Maybe IU caught lightning in a bottle? Curious how you might answer that?

Nailed itBlue Bloods are teams that have had continued or sustained success for long periods of time in my opinion. UCLA and IU are examples of teams that were but aren't really considered that recently.
Pitino is correct. The ability to legally be able to pay players and the transfer portal has changed the game. Big boosters can now buy whatever the school needs. Think about the roster that schools with wealthy alumni like Vanderbilt could buy if the alumni stepped up. IU Football proved it on the football field and it doesn't look like they are going away as long as Mark Cuban hangs around.
IU had back to back great seasons and they are recruiting at a very high level with a successful coach. This doesn't look like a lightning in a bottle situation. Mark Cuban is pumping serious cash into the program.
