I don’t believe for a minute that the average person on here by any stretch wishes for his demise in any way, we are collectively brutally disappointed that he was given the keys to a Ferrari and treated it like an AMC Gremlin. The man and for that matter the players are paid millions, it was stated the program is “swimming in money” yet he failed to build a complete roster this past year and is on course to do substantially worse this upcoming season, to not have signed a single top-50 HS player, is reprehensible, at best. More importantly, he failed as a leader of young men, way too many internal issues throughout this season and for me, that’s unforgivable, he’s unfortunately and sadly in over his head.

Let's assume that you are 100% right. Then, this will most likely mean that he has a "parting of the ways" next year after the season. UK will go a different direction and we will get a highly successful coach. With the portal and NIL, we will be back on top in short order.

Hall won a title but wasn't always great. He retired. We hired Sutton. Sutton was a disaster We hired Pitino. Pitino left and we hired Tubby. Tubby was Joe B 2.0. Tubby left, we hired Billy G. Billy G was a disaster and we hired Cal. Cal fell off drastically and left. We hired Pope. If you are right, Pope exits and we hire another Cal or Pitino.

I am disappointed with Pope and how he ended especially allowing a J.Q. to sit out without dismissing him (and now somehow just as I predicted just in time has "rehabbed)." Plus, the lack of recruiting at the moment is very scary. Nevertheless, he is the coach next season and I want Kentucky to be at a championship level like in the past. So, I certainly HOPE he can accomplish that goal. Until then complaining, putting him down, etc. serves no positive purpose.

While I would have preferred that Pope be successful here for many reasons, I’m beyond convinced he doesn’t have a prayer at doing so. So while I’m not doing poking pope voodoo dolls, I also won’t be sad when the team is awful next year and I believe it’ll be necessary to make sure enough heat is put onto UK to fire him.

UK has set a precedent where they won’t fire a coach unless the fans and boosters are unbearably loud and angry. So if that’s what it takes to get him out then I’ll do my part to make it happen.

No one makes you support the program next year with Pope still leading it

Sure doesn’t look like anything that depicts a pro Pope discussion to me.

Looks like another bashing thread.

Why didn’t you just put this in one of the other 2000 that are on here?

No coach from the time they were hired has been disliked that UK the way pope has. And he’s a former player I mean that just says how incompetent how bad he is as a coach because I mean if one thing big blue nation we might be a bunch of idiots but we know Basketball and we know by looking at a coaches performance, whether they’re gonna be able to handle the pressure at Kentucky and when or whether they’re not, it’s really sad when you have a former player that was a captain people make fun of that now that he was a captain Natl people they’re like all he had going for him on his résumé. Was he captain the team in 96 . They’re not wrong not by telling Pope leaves he’ll be the most maligned coach in UK history and it won’t even be close he gonna make our disdain for cal to look like a birthday party. Or he could go now to the A.D. turn in his resignation and be considered a hero by big blue nation.

If he had credentials when hired, Im sure BBN would have been more accepting and patient. But most feel he didn’t deserve the job to start with, so he has very little wiggle room with success. Most people in general don’t support nepotism or croynism. That’s all this hire was.

Popes #1 intention will be, do just enough to get one more year, then rinse and repeat every year. This man will never be able to assemble a Championship roster.
That's my fear. It's also why getting rid of him now is by far the best decision. If he wins a few more games next season but we still aren't good, the narrative will be about "progress" and Pope will bring out about 30 irrelevant stats to back that up. People will then use the excuse that " you can't fire someone who is trending in the right direction". In that case, we are stuck in mediocrity.

I haven't seen what I would call "Pro Pope" posts. I think 99% of us would be ok with moving on, and figure it will probably happen. There's some of us though that realize the AD is going to give Pope a 3rd year, it's just precedent and how things work. Nobody says you have to like it. But it is what it is. So a few of us see that and rather than choosing to call our current coach goofy names, make fun of him and hate on him, we are hoping he's able to find success this year. Do we think he will? Probably not. Have stranger things happened? Absolutely. But because we aren't really into the whole wailing and gnashing of teeth thing, we are called Pope Pumpers. Whatever.

It’s depressing isn’t it? If he tries this crap next year after another mediocre year I’ll never be able to see him as nothing more than a sniveling jerk.

I think Pope cares a ton about us having real, championship level success. That should be a given but it wasn't with the last coach.

That's about the only nice thing I can say. He is a nice guy. He is pretty smart. He is an above average X and O offensive coach. But he has never shown any signs of being capable of winning at the highest levels of college basketball. That is why he never should have been hired here and why he won't (or shouldn't) last much longer.

This is my biggest fear with Pope is. His entire career has been “just good enough.” While that works fine at a lot of places, it just doesn’t here. Going 26-9 or 25-10 with a sweet 16 exit next year is the worst possible outcome. We all know that isn’t good enough but I’d put money that UK would be fine bringing him back for year 4 with that season. That’s purgatory. I’d rather have another year like this one or worse than do that and have to run it back year 4.

If you think that’s what the results will be, you very well may be right. If you think that’s Pope’s “#1 intention” you can be marked off the list of people to have an intelligent conversation with.

First is being a loudmouth, ignorant jerk like yourself who changes his name after being embarrassed by his old name or band, whichever one of them happened. Seriously you are one of the biggest pieces of **** on here.

If he doesn’t finish in the top 2 of the SEC, tournament success shouldn’t matter, he shouldn’t be allowed to be back as a middle-of-the-pack SEC team for 3 straight years.

It’s not bashing if it’s grounded in reality, we’re assessing his performance as an employee at UK, not as a person,
Yeah criticizing legitimate problems is not being unfair or bashing Pope. Seeing the same issues over 2 years and then Pope acts like we are improving is not based in reality.

I agree there is no reason to attack him personally and its not needed because there is a littany of legit items to hit him on.

The truth is if he wasn't a former player he would not of been hired here based on his resume. If he wasn't a former player he would be fired after this season. We didn't even do a true job search and our AD just picked a easy path.

If Pope was in the real world as a CEO he would of been terminated because his performance regressed badly from his first year and its obvious he doesnot have control of the lockeroom and nobody wants to play for him .

We know he is coming back next year. Trashing his name is only getting the word out there to potential recruits, players, etc. When you continuously name call or ridicule it just makes you look bad. You can honestly criticize without using dork, king whiff etc .

He didn't do a good job with last roster and we had injuries too. Plus he is too good to his players and played them instead of leaving them on the bench. I'm gonna try to see if we can run into some good luck and maybe not have freak injuries or someone who needs to rehab to get healthy. People mainly are mad who are pro cal and him being in sweet 16. Ill see if people are as pissy past this weekend.

With potentially so many coaches leaving maybe well have some good luck with players. Constant complaining is just not a good look. You aren't gonna get your way and recruits say why do I wanna put on a Kentucky jersey. I believe once we know who is transferring it'll help with players, imo.

Apparently if you think this, you are marked off a list to have an intelligent conversation with. Although that’s what Popes whole career has been. Do just enough, just because you want to win a championship in your heart, it’s sadly not enough to get it done. You have to get the studs and then get them to play as a team at a high level. Pope hasn’t shown he can do that, so his results might be “just enough to not get fired”

I agree, that’s a non negotiable. You have to walk before you run and Pope must get us back on top of the SEC. Another mid pack result should finish him off.

Beautifully put. The truth is you, I, and a shite ton of other people just like us never wished for Pope's demise or would have.

But his demise is past tense now, and he largely did that to himself.

For the most part, barring an unforeseeable miracle, as Allan Flynn and Frank Madden wrote: "It's All Over But The Crying."

Final four next year or billboards will be put up in Lexington with Fire Mark Pope everywhere.. And if they're any injuries next year there can be 0% using that as an excuse for not attaining that goal..

A ton of people feel the same way. Unfortunately, there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Prepare for things to get much worse.
