I also agree that Vega is now going at 49?...but where do you see Jax next season? Is DT going to run the risk of him losing to Bassett or stick a Raney out there and hope for the best? I don't know think either Raney beats Bassett.

To be fair, McCort had a pretty damn good football team going back to the 90’s. They didn’t even have a wrestling team then. I’m pretty sure Shad Benton started their wrestling program and then Bassett eventually took the recruiting to a whole different level.
Brandt Harer is an excellent HS wrestler but not remotely Stanich, Forrest, Vega, Blaze, Davino, or Seidel. Or Ono.
Bassett has a very good chance next year, but maybe we pump the brakes a little on this until we see him against a college contender.
Bo is an excellent wrestler who improves after each loss. He always seeks the best competition. He is respectful to his opponents. He has wrestled up for two years and has still been very successful. At 141 his comparative strength should be more advantageous. I think he excels in college.....starting with his first year. On the very plus side...he is exciting to watch. I am a fan against anyone not PSU.
Likewise. I happen to know first hand he is a great kid who is worth rooting for against anyone not in our blue and white, the same for his little brother.
To me they're two different styles. I see Bo more like the old time Iowa Metcalf thing...what Mitchell does, frankly I can't think of anything like it, ever.
You know what you don't see Bo doing after a match? Bragging about being a "killer". Just saying...
I saw a video of an early morning workout, with another kid, starting in his basement, then pushing a loaded wheelbarrow around the block… he was very pleasant saying good morning etc to folks he passed in their driveways… seemed to be a good kid.
Some of us are debating on who wins between him and Forrest…haven’t they gone at it in practice for a few years… probably hundreds of hours cumulatively… someone probably has heard how that has gone… unless it’s a Zain vs Nolf level secret!

Benton was the OG of McCort recruiting violations. Got fired before the end of his first year because he had already gotten the school into PIAA probation for poaching from other schools. Also his junior high coach got a 1-yr ban from PIAA for recruiting.
The program floundered for a few years before hiring Bill Bassett, who had been fired as Forest Hills junior high coach coinciding with the Erik Gibson flap at King of the Mountain ... leading to the incoming transfer wave.
What was funny about this: a poster on the old board (maybe Guns?) continually hyped up Shad Benton as if he were the Dave Crowell of PA District 6 high schools. Less than a year later, gone and never to be heard from again.
Higher over the course of a match today but that's against mostly HS kids who are ill-equipped to face it.
He won't be able to sustain that pace in college because of the level of competition. Also, he tends to throw caution to the wind with his attacking, and will need to clean that up against top college wrestlers -- this will affect his pace.
To be clear, he'll still have a very high pace in college, just won't be as high as today. The 8-seeds aren't taking advantage of his over-aggression.
IMO Bassett's style is closest to DeSanto, though he'll have a higher attack rate.
At least based on how he acts when there is a camera around (which is a lot), this is what I see: incredibly hard worker, always smiling, personable, and never disrespectful to his opponents. Almost like Messenbrink, who apparently has quite the social media following as well. I can see why the constant social media presence and recruiting drama may not be some people's cup of tea, but he seems like a really easy young man to root for.
The parents; if you put your son(s) out there in the spotlight, there are going to be some haters. Come across multiple threads that Mrs. Bassett got shut down for personally attacking responders who asked why her sons were so much older than others in their grade. Not a good look. I have no personal knowledge of them as people in real life, and they seem to have raised some fine young men; I give them some grace because we all act like fools sometimes on the internet.

It's going to be a great match. And yes, anyone saying anything other than Jax is the favorite isn't paying attention.
Not to say that Bo can't/won't beat Jax, but one guy is the defending national champion. I just hope it happens.
Where does Jax’s dad fit in with the coaching staff? I’ve never really studied it, but I thought Jax’s dad might be the HC.

I'm kinda surprised PIAA doesn't limit the number of coaches. McCort has more coaches than PSU + NLWC combined, which is crazy (even if most/all of them are $1 volunteer assistants).
I dismiss “A will beat B” comments. The certainty makes no sense. Recently, who thought Rob-a-Duke stood a chance against PJ? Joey Blaze over Tyler? Valencia over Shayne? Wyatt over Steveson? How about that embarrassing mega-staller from Princeton who was one off-balance misstep by Luke away from winning an NC?

That's a major point...Bassett has been 2 or more years older than his class contemporaries. A 20 year old SR in high school is actually the age of a lot of COLLEGE SOPHS or JUNIORS

He was the head coach for 1 year that year McCort was on probation. Yeah...pretty much in name only but it was his title.

Jax made the senior world team and won NCAA’s. Bo didn’t make the U20 team and won high school states. I don’t understand the thinking that Bo would beat Jax. Also, one area where Bo isn’t great is scrambling. He usually finishes clean and doesn’t get in extended scrambles. Jax will eat him up in those positions. Bo is going to be very good from day 1. Probably top 4ish but beating Jax is at another level I don’t think he’s at yet
