And the best overall from Lex in a long time. Mark pope has basically successfully run them both off. Idk what he did with Moreno probably the overall dysfunction but JJ? Pope did ziltch to develop that kid. As a matter of fact a few of our players were worse at the end of the season then at the beginning Jasper was one of them and it’s because Jasper wasn’t getting the playing time in November and December. And the coaching needed for him to improve his game..

The guy is super capable defender. He just need to be taught how to defend at this level. He’s not a point guard pope force round peg into square hole thinking that that guy was gonna be a point guard. Pope wasn’t going to develop annd lay JJ in ver over Chandler because Chandler‘s his boy.

How in the hell has he supposedly “run them both off”?

One of them he made our starting center, despite the fact that he was merely projected as third string when the season first began. And the other he gave way more playing time than his woeful play deserved. And I do believe both are welcome to return next year.

I know it’s trendy to look for ways to blame everything on Pope right now, but claiming he “ran off” those two is ludicrous dumb wording.

Not reading all that.

Jasper sucks and is transferring

Moreno has potential but is currently soft as charmin
You must be illiterate to think that “was all that”. Literally a 10 sec read lol. And no JJ is a good player who received crap coaching. And right now on Moreno isn’t what we need him for

I said I’m not reading all that I didn’t say I couldn’t.

JJ is built like a 12 yr old girl and struggles in almost every single facet of the game. Not sure what games you were watching

Moreno exceeded expectations and jj under achieved. In fact jj looked like he was in way over his head. Co pare him with the kid from Indiana that went to uconn. That kis is head and shoulders better in all aspects of the game. Pope should have spent the $ on him instead of jj, but the fan reaction would have been horrible.

They’re both leaving bro. Not bc of fans. If it were fans they would be tight with their coach and defend him. No player has yet to defend pope. Cal had reed Shepard going to bat for him when we wanted cal gone.

Jasper is the first high level recruit that I want to transfer I think ever. Go do whatever that was I saw this season somewhere else.
Nope, not for me. EJ Montgomery, Skal, Whitney, Askew. We have had a share of complete busts here.

He is nowhere near a super capable defender. He probably can’t bench 20 pounds. He weighs like 110 pounds soaking wet. He’s like a little 8th grade kid to some of these players out here.

Malachi is not leaving. He improved over the year and will be an integral contributor.
Like to see JJ stick it out. He really needs a great off season. Will see if he is built to fight and persevere rather than run. He got plenty of chances.

Pope had nothing to do with the bad basketball I saw JJ play. He made elementary level mistakes, the kind you take for granted every college basketball players know.

It’s the pressure of not knowing what’s expected of you, but at the same time, your coach has high expectations. Pope failed to define a role for him. It’s that simple mean you guys can’t see that you think it’s the player? No that’s all on the coach man.

He said Saturday was the last time he’ll ever wear the UK jersey so I don’t know why you think he’s coming back

All of you guys are ganging up on the OP but there is truth to what he's saying. JJ has clear scoring talent. Even this year, he scores in ways other players on this team just cannot do. Things you can't teach. What he needs is proper coaching from a good staff (not just the HC).

If he stays at UK, he will continue to suck as long as the Dope is here. He will thrive with proper coaching.

Go watch the minutes he played against Iowa St. and tell me it's the fault of the coaches.

Their only fault was putting him in that game.

Just stop. Everything that goes wrong with a player is not Pope's fault.. JJ made some huge mistakes and decision that cost us games

Jasper has a lot going for him. He has the rare ability to take people off the dribble and penetrate. He will be a VERY good 3 pt shooter and defender. He is raw and needs to bulk up- he will make huge strides during the off season. He was a freshman. UK needs JJ and Moreno to return in a bad way- both have been brutalized on this message board and on Twitter. Parents, players, recruits and agents read these boards. If winning matters to you, manners should go along with it.

I can’t believe anyone thinks Johnson is a good player after that season and would have the audacity to blame his poor play on Pope. He had ample opportunity in the OOC, but was unplayable by February.

He may be a solid player one day (Jr/Sr year), but we don’t have time to let him develop with the game-killing mistakes he makes.

It would be great if he and his family realize who he is, and return to Lexington for next year. He would be a good spark plug, backup that can get maybe 6-7 PPG.

He won’t though. He’ll end up transferring to some middling program like UCF or Memphis.
