I'm hoping Acuff takes Cal to the Final Four, so that it puts more pressure on the Good Ole Boys up at Kentucky.

I want Cal to advance and then land Stokes. I don't want Stokes to save Pope's job by coming here. I then want UNC to make a huge hire. I want Pitino and Cal to both make the Final Four.

I want our fans to see all of it, and realize that we're behind to the extent that CHANGE will happen, even if Pope does something marginal (by UK standards) and finished top 3 in the SEC or gets to a Sweet Sixteen next year. Tubby left because the pressure was coming on all sides. Same for Calipari.

We have to get Pope out of Lexington as fast as possible.

I bet you at least 80% of UK fans would have voted to keep Calipari and let him finish here if they had known that Mitch was going to downgrade with Pope. Our fans would have loved Acuff, Smith Jr. (next year), and possibly Stokes.

What we have right now is worse than Calipari, because at least Cal accomplishes 1/2 of what is needed here - which is to land elite talent. Pope neither wins big or lands elite players.

Fans want a major super star coach with FFs who can recruit nba talent!!!!!!!!

Rest assured, if Pope does not work out, there will be a push to take back Cal…or better yet see if Cal will take us back.

I can only imagine the terms of that contract. UK, boosters, media, and fans would have 0 leverage.

Wouldn’t blame Cal either to demand an even wilder contract than before.

No, the pressure to not give Pope another year for year #4, which is my worst fear if he makes a Sweet Sixteen or "show more progress" next year with a first-year AD.

The answer is not bringing Cal back. He's done here. The pressure would be to hire from the 5 or 6 other elite coaches who are up and coming - Lucas, May, TJ, McCollum, Golden, Oats, or even someone like Vogel.

It was time for Cal to move on and I don't miss that ******* not one bit I don't care what he does in Arkansas. I do know this, Pope doesn't even deserve a 3rd year and should be ran out of town for all those blow out losses, largest tournament defeat in over 50 years, no recruits coming in, and he's just not cut from the cloth of what it takes to be UK Head Coach.

If Cal winning it all means it makes Mitch looks worse and puts pressure on UK to leave the Mitch tree for AD, then let the Hogs keep winning I suppose. That would be silver lining, in a time where everything already sucks.

It’s not about coaching for a lot of folks.

It’s about winning the 24/7/365 hype cycle.

Cal won when he didn’t win and this fan base loved it.

Now Cal is a very good title winning HOF coach, but so was Tubby.

What Cal did that most coaches don’t do is he won the off season, recruiting season, pre season, NBA draft season.

This fan base ate it up.

When things started to go south and ended ultimately the way it did, a lot of chest puffing and barking went on. However, I knew deep down a certain segment of this fan base would not have the patience to transition from all that and build a new.

I knew folks would start to have heart palpitations and anxiety attacks when whoever the next coach was didn’t haul in OADs, top classes, etc…

That has proven to be true.

These folks will bark about Xs, Os, and winning. All bluff. Teams and programs take time to build and we’ve been through slow years. It happens.

It’s about the ego stroke of “KENTUCKY SIGNS TOP CLASS…KENTUCKY HAS 5 PLAYERS GET SELECTED ON DRAFT NIGHT…KENTUCKY IS PRESEASON FAVORITE…”

We’d have to offer to make Brad coach in waiting. That’s the only thing imo that would pull Cal back. No thanks.

If Acuff goes nuclear, they could do anything, but they haven't beat a team with a halfway decent front line all year. As long as Bradley doesn't pull a Rod Rhodes against Stackhouse, they win comfortably.

Go Arizona. The talent Cal had come thru Lexington it was criminal he only won 1 Natty. He should have been the Nick Saban of college basketball. Instead, what he produced was 1 Natty and 2 NIT appearances. Loses to Saint Peters and Oakland. He did that with NBA talent years in and years out. His 2015 team was arguably the most talented college basketball team of all time and he did not win. He is a great recruiter but a terrible X's and O's Coach. So many of our fans must have loved winning on NBA draft day and not in the NCAA tourney.

I am not saying Coach Pope is the answer either but in his two seasons the team did not miss the tourney like 2013 and 2021. Just sayin!

Cal had to go, he had stopped coaching and he had lost his fire. We had good players come through but for Cal to really excel he has to have Elite guard play, when he has great guards, he does well.
We just went through a spell where we didn’t get any elite guards and it showed
