The injured Duke player, an improbable comeback against Gonzaga, and two miraculous Oweh shots against OU affected the outlook on Popes first season.
Duke still had Flagg the great. Hardly a gimme. Pope outcoached Sheyer in that game.

I believe Pope will get this done. He did a great job last year given the circumstances and anyone reasonable was happy with it.

Flopped this year. No sugarcoating it.

He will learn and adjust. I expect a full turnaround next year.
I hope you are right and are laughing at all of us this time next year, but I just don't see it. He can coach a good game but he's not consistent at all. I hope I'm wrong!

I'll wait to see the roster, but I'd almost be willing to wager money that this won't work out next season. Gonna be more of the same. You've got a 10+ year sample, and 26 losses here at your disclosure. But yeah, sure. Next year.

The pitchforks are out today. You guys shouldn't be so firm in your hatred, it may make you look really stupid in the long run.

Reminds me of the most immature among us who cry and scream at halftime only to see the game flip.

I may end up being wrong, but you crybabies have not been proven correct. Ending has not been written.

He didn’t learn anything this year from his horrible substitution patterns or that jasper Johnson could not play vs physical competition. What makes you think he learned anything at all this year? I know I learned he is not even a fraction of the coach I thought he was. He has regressed. As a coach. The job is not buidling him up but breaking him down. He doesn’t even know what he’s doing anymore.

Writing was on the wall after the first half of the Gonzaga game in Nashville. I’ve never ever heard a home team getting booed so passionately loud. Told me what’s bound to happen now or next March.

Speaking of the long run, two years ago you called someone dumb for saying Pope was a worse hire than BCG. Now you are eating crow and doubling down.

Talk about dumbest post of the year.

Pope was not who would have hired but I didnt have a vote. We did hire him and as I had long feared Calapari left the program in chaos with zero players on roster. Pope did a great job cobbling together a competative roster on short notice and given the injuries he did about as good as he could that year IMO. This year was supposed to be different, roster he wanted a couple of 5 star recruits and a ton of optimism. In truth we only had 1 season ending injury, Lowe, I don't count JQ because he was injured before he got here a coach Pope KNEW.this going in.

This season we had more losses finished worse in SEC and didnt advance
as far in NCAA. Even worse IMO we
currently do not have a single top 150 recruits signed. HOW DOES THAT
HAPPEN AT A PLACE LIKE UK. That's a
real problem and it is solely on coach. His
analytics dependence and his insistence
on using it to mandate substitution
patterns is troubling. His teams
propensity to have blow out losses is a
problem. I support Pope in so far as he is UKs coach next year, but if he doesn't make some major changes next year will be his last year iMO

Youre still on that nonsense? Give it up little one.

What evidence does anyone have that we will be better next year? At this point, its fine to say you think we will be better and pope will get it done but you should preface by saying you have no logical evidence, only feelings.

Last season showed he can assemble a good team and could play well together. If we didn't lose jaxson Robinson, kerr kriisa, Lamont butler, I think we could have made it further last year. Those are additional points, assists, leadership that were lost.

This team just didn't gel well and no leadership on the floor. Pope deserved criticism for what he assembled. I think it was mistake getting 2 players who could not contribute right away. And I am referring to the 2 that are redshirt. That could've gone to another pg and sf. At kentucky, everyone should be ready to contribute no matter how big or small your role is. Unless you got injured and be able to medical redshirt. We no longer should gamble jq like situation ever again

Im little skeptical what just happened but im not going to completely ignore that pope did have success last season and didnt just forget how to coach.

Hopefully he will get the players this time fits his system better.

He lost 8 games by double digits last season too and 12 overall. He did a solid job last year but I think people are overstating it to an extent.
Not “to an extent”. It’s completely overstated. There were nearly 900 players in the portal when he was hired. This notion that his roster build was anything other than what he was supposed to do is just simp talk.

Even in a very disappointing season, we still beat Arkansas, St. John's, Indiana (means something to us old farts) and Tennessee twice. Second round exit sucked, but we got the iconic Oweh shot out of it.

Gillispie got fired because he was banging coeds and blowing off boosters. Pope is not Gillispie. He's a much better version of Mark Stoops.
No he’s not. Stoops actually had success. For every Duke last season there was an equal and opposite Ohio State, Ole Miss or UGA. If that’s good enough for you old farts, maybe you old farts need to have higher expectations.

Popes done. The president confirmed if pope is here it’s due to money issues. Boosters are going to save. Pope would be best to fall his sword but they probably told him it’s gonna be lean now. He’s like tubby he needs some elite players and can’t land them. He’s gonna lose his Kentucky boys who were burger boys in Moreno and Johnson. Pope has become toxic.
He’s nothing like Tubby. I hated Tubby, mainly because he couldn’t get studs (like Pope)…but Tubbys teams played HARD and Tubby could scheme. You saw how well Pope could scheme in the Iowa St game. They cranked up the pressure on the guards and Pope was dumbfounded. Had zero answers. Just stood there clapping, squinting and rubbing his head like the moron he is. Save me the “super smart” stuff. He’s a fraud.

The first words of my post were "even in a very disappointing season." The problem with fans like you is that you don't want to give anyone a chance to learn and improve. Instead of moving his way up, which is the trajectory of every coach worth a damn, you want him to start at the top and work his way sideways. Yes, Cal started that way, but Cal brought the number one recruiting class in with him. Three years later Cal was losing to Robert Morris in the NIT. Ten years later he oversaw the worst five-year span in UK history.

I remember Pitino's first year. We lost by 55 to Kansas and were losing by almost 40 to UNC before Dean called off the dogs. I was at that game and my friend was cursing Pitino's name. I said to him "be patient, he's trying to build a system." He said "I don't care. I don't appreciate getting beat by 55 points."

We’ve had much worse seasons than this. All things considered, injuries being a huge factor, I’m still optimistic that this can work.

The past two seasons were better than the last 4 of Crapapari.

Pope’s first two seasons were much better than Hurley’s and Golden’s first two seasons at UConn and Florida. You know those two guys, the two all of our fans want to hire.

The hatred so many of fans are spewing at Pope is unwarranted, and embarrassing. I guarantee you he’s working his *** off on getting this program back to prominence. Calipari spent his last four years here sitting on his lazy ***, mocking our State, our fans, and our tradition.

The problem with fans like you is you use Pitinos first year, probation and pre NIL and pre transfer portal to compare to Pope. Pope had 800+ players in the portal and was a SITTING P4 HEAD COACH. He could’ve brought any BYU recruit with him and had another 800 at his disposal. Pitino had none of that, Kentuckys Shame (SI front page), and couldn’t exactly bring the Knicks roster with him. Also, Pitino had been to a F4 and had been a successful NBA coach. Cal had taken two other teams to the F4. Neither were “learning” on the job. Another problem with fans like you, you think it’s okay for someone that’s the HC at UK to learn on the job. Again, no fan should have that low level of expectation at UK.

The guards were all in foul trouble.
Foul trouble has zero to do with the coach’s ability to scheme them against getting their arses guarded off. Aberdeen 37 mins, Oweh 36 mins, and Chandler 30 mins. They played, got eaten alive, and their head coach never adjusted to the pressure. What’s your next excuse for the fraud head coach?

You’re going to be in for a very rude awakening next season when we have more losses than this one. No recruits and no ability to land healthy stud transfers
