Unfortunately yes. I always hoped we would see the Black Friday showdown have a winner take-all trip to the playoffs. We haven’t been in that galaxy yet.

generations of my family are woven through the history of NU athletics. several played for Bob & Tom. I ate at the training table before we beat #5 CU (an actual rival) at home in 1996.

Was in high school during the late 90s, went to numerous games. Two degrees from UNL during the Solich and Callahan years. I’ve been to pretty much every old Big 8 school (never made it to Okie St), didn’t make it to the Texas schools in Big 12. Been to conference championship games. Iowa is a rivalry - as much as it pains us. My first bout with Kong was on this very topic my first week on the board. Unfortunately neither team has played for much which makes it less exciting than our old traditional rivalries. But in terms of the extra juice that comes from playing the Hawkeyes and the back and forth between fans - there is zero doubt in my mind that it’s a rivalry. Hopefully we can make it mean something in football.

It’s not a rivalry and never has been. It’s manufactured by the pro B1G crowd in an attempt to justify the move to the B1G and the subsequent spiral that we’ve done since then. One basketball game will not change that but I guess it’s something. For the first time in 15 years, they have something.

Even with all the shortcomings of the BIG, the conference is not stupid enough to say "Looks like it's time to realign, Michigan goes to division X, Ohio State goes to division Y. They'll see each other twice in every 4 year cycle, and we're going to pretend that's not going to be a big deal."

Hell 1/3 of university of Iowa students are from Illinois (because iowa is easy to get into) and Illinois kids don't give a **** about NU.

I would say it’s the only game in any sport where Nebraska and Iowa have played for anything of consequence.
It will be another nail biter unfortunately. We struggled to put them away in our own house. Need to have the 3 pointer game on point Thursday night. Florida’s offense was not effective inside the paint.

You had nothing when you were clearly wrong about this year’s CFP and the B1G, SEC, and Big 12 conference representation and results.
You can’t provide any rebuttals regarding the B1G’s success so far in this year’s men’s tournament.
And now, you tried to use your family’s history with the football program as some justification as why your opinion on a rivalry is somehow superior, yet you probably weren’t old enough to actually remember playing in the Big 8. It’s cool your family played for the program, but it doesn’t make your opinions any more valid.

Indiana won the natty. The same team you said beat nobody and was a joke all season, going back to losing to ND in last year’s playoff.

I see why some think NU-Iowa is a rivalry. Here's why I don't:
1. No one outside of Nebraska-Iowa would consider this a top 50 rivalry in the nation (debatable. Top 30 at least).
2. If the football game wasn't played on Turkey +1 so many non-NU or Iowa fans wouldn't hardly know about this game.
3. No national implications in football. Ever. NU-OU was ALL national implications. NU-CU same thing for a decade or more. *Please note, this is not required for a rivalry - I know that. But this is my list so screw off if you don't like it (lol).
4. One-sided.
5. Here is my main reason it's not a rivalry: I have zero jealousy of Iowa: Zilch. I grew up hating, but also admiring Oklahoma, their titles, Switzer and his swagger leading them to success. I WANTED some of that. Even with CU winning their fake national title - I was jealous, Pissed. It brought emotion. Ralphie running all over national TV, and the Buffs all over the national headlines. Sorry guys, there is zero and I mean ZERO that Iowa has that I desire or am jealous of. They beat us and I shrug. Yee-haw. The dorks won. They get to create another 8-win banner.
Iowa comes across to me as boring, hicks, inbreds, losers, no national titles, institutional racism discovered, lame state, dorky fans, and the worst internet trolls I've seen. Iowa's internet trolls couldn't get a rise out of a 17 year old boy seeing his first boobs. Their trolls are a joke. Watching Switzer get his team pumped up, beat us often - I would cringe. I would be jealous. I WANTED to be in that Orange Bowl vs. Washington and others. That to me is a rivalry. Sure, you hate them - but part of you respects their success. They have something that you hate that they have it. Iowa has none of that. ZERO.

The only part of a rivalry that I guess i can relate to is I really hate losing to them. But like Scoop said, I am not jealous of them or wish we were like them. They are a low rent team and school with no real success and the fact they pwn us is why I hate losing to them. But I hate losing to Minnesota for the exact same reasons. If we beat Iowa for the next 10 years, who really cares unless it propels us somewhere great - beating OU or CU (mostly) ensured that...Iowa, not so much.
It's human nature to devalue something that you're not having any success at so I get the thought process , but for me personally , it's absolutely a regionally rivalry at least and the one team I want to beat the most now every year. I'm not sure is has to be a national rivalry that everybody else appreciates, to be a rivalry. I hate those fukcers and I want to beat their azz in everything that we play em in
You were on the warpath all fall claiming the SEC and even the Big 12 were superior conferences to the B1G. Then the CFP happened and the one Big 12 team that made it scored a ZERO points. The same Tech team you were touting all season. And the SEC didn’t make it to the championship game, again. You also claimed throughout the season that Indiana was a nobody because they hadn’t beaten anyone dating back to their loss to ND in the previous year’s playoff.
