Vanderbilt-Nebraska ending!! Shades of Gordon Haywood!
I thought it was in. Vandy blew it earlier by giving up second chance points on two possessions in the last minute then horrible defense at the end allowing the guy to go right to the basket.

What was the deal with it being a home game for Nebraska?

They really have to cut down the number of time outs teams get especially when there’s TV time outs. The games take forever especially the end of games. Combine that with the number of fouls called and it’s tough to watch.

It’s an inherent defect of that sport.

This is true of just about every sport except soccer. That’s why MLB’s pitch clock is a Godsend.

With soccer you know the match will be over in 110 minutes. I can’t deny it’s a plus for me.

It was actually played in Oklahoma City. A lot closer to Lincoln than Nashville.

I could be wrong...I feel like there were less timeouts than usual in the final few minutes this year. The last 90 seconds can take 15 minutes though.

Same with hockey
Basketball is really the only sport greatly impacted by timeouts and/or fouls. I guess sometimes football.
With hockey, soccer and football you basically know how long the game will be...if it ends in regulation

He probably would've moved on, but what if he had been able to build PSU into a Wisconsin type of program or better and stayed for upwards of a decade? Also, even if he had moved on, he could've laid the framework for a consistent winning program that would've been attractive to other coaches and NBA caliber players, and he might have been able to turn PSU into a program that self-perpetuates itself.
One thing to keep in mind. Calipari built his early career on being dirty as hell. I suppose he could have done that at PSU but I somehow doubt it. He’s put two programs on probation.

So far, I’ve seen a definite difference in some of these teams from a physical, athletic standpoint. Michigan, Connecticut, Florida, Arizona and Illinois are impressive. Not saying they will win but they are big, mobile teams. As Barkley noted, Michigan looks like a NBA team.

The last 12 minutes of the Arkansas game took almost an hour to finish.

I went to the high school state basketball tournament this week and those games flow much better and don’t get bogged down at the end nearly as much. They also didn’t call 700 fouls. Much more enjoyable to watch.

Not sure how much longer Self lasts at Kansas. I could eat my words but I do not see Kansas beating St John's.
It’s a hard game to read, Kansas-St. John’s. Kansas has gotten within 6, things could fall their way. Yeah, St. John’s has looked better than KU today but so did North Carolina against VCU.

And St. John’s wins. What a great drive for the winner at the buzzer.

Wow! St. John's almost gave the game away or at least would have had to go to OT. What a darling play by Darling getting to the hoop then a great contested shot.

Florida's talent advantage has taken over. We'll see if Iowa can respond.

Huge 3 right there though...we need some chaos

Hate to pick on a kid, but what was Lee thinking? First, he does nothing to make it difficult for Stirtz to advance the ball. A simple switch slows everything down or at the very least you have someone in front of him that keeps the defender on the corner shooter. Then, he dribbles the clock away with no understanding of time. Doesn't even get a shot. He transferred from Princeton!

Yeah, I thought that was really weak defense by Florida on Iowa's winning shot. Too easy for Stirtz getting the ball moving to the basket then the other guy is wide open to make the 3. No one around him for any kind of contest.

Probably unfair of me to blame Lee on the defense. That's a pretty easy coaching decision to keep both guards behind the pick so that there would be a guarantee of having a defender between Stirtz and the basket. The games sure got interesting starting at the supper hour.

Don't see anything wrong with token pressure or, as we used to call it, "Bump pressure." All out full-court pressure makes no sense. Keep the ball in front of you. The positioning was crazy and guaranteed Stirtz would have the option of taking it to the basket or hitting an open corner shooter. Haugh was put in a no-win situation. If he doesn't help, it's a lay-up. If he does, well, we saw the result.

I'm thinking 60% Houston, 20% Nebraska, 10% each Iowa and Illinois.

On a neutral court, I take Illinois. They are a handfull and a half. But with the game being played in Houston, I take Houston 45%, Illinois 40%, Nebraska 8%, and Iowa 7%.

This is the best game that I've seen Houston Mallette play for Bama. He was extremely lightly recruited when Chambers got him to commit to us...he's carved out an interesting career (a high volume scorer at Pepperdine, then a role player at Alabama).
